Day 10: Museum - 1:15pm
Who: OTA
What: Seven point five
When: 1:15pm - 5:00pm
Where: the Museum
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

The sun was shining high in the sky and a gentle breeze stroked the leaves of the trees, making them, along with the severed stub of rope on the clock face from the day previous sway lazily. It was quiet. Perhaps it was too quiet, for the lack of birds chirping or insects buzzing.

All in all, the day was one of the most pleasant as of yet for the bulk of the involuntary residents of Vas Captio, save, of course, the heat. Maybe it was a bit too hot to be entirely comfortable.

It started small, as most things do. A few of the sculptures rattled against the glass displays encasing them and the loose windows in some of the rooms jittered anxiously in their frames. The floor seemed to wiggle gently but then, all was quiet and immobile again.

As if to protest the stillness of the museum, a great angry shudder rumbled through the foundation. Some of the wooden floorboards seemed to shoot upward as they snapped in half or into pieces, jutting up from the floor. The whole building dropped down as its weak foundation crumbled beneath it, creating the sensation of a very short elevator drop. Glass shattered loudly, throwing about shards sharp as knives and raining them down into the floors or walls as if tossed by a knife-thrower. The doors of the multiple rooms flew open, some ripping off their hinges entirely and others being slammed angrily shut again when large display cases made of wood and metal were thrown against them.

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the place as displays were destroyed completely sending still more shards of what remained everywhere, creating somewhat of a death trap, especially in the main lobby where the bulk of the displays remained. That sound was skewed until it was nearly drowned out completely as the roar of metal supports trying to hold and failing came to fruition and the entire building's worth of ceiling space collapsed in. Some of the doorways managed to hold up - those in which the doors were jammed in place by felled display cases - while others caved in under the weight of the falling debris and the loss of structure when the museum dropped from its foundation to the ground a few feet below. Almost as quickly as everything began, the movement dropped away.

Vas Captio was still, again, and silent once more.

"You do look like you ain' doin' so hot, Chere. I t'ink you got some hea' trauma. You gotta stay awake, non? Don' wan' 'de pretties' girl in 'de place dyin' 'cause I was borin' her t'sleep." Joked in return from the Cajun, who was finally turning red eyes back onto her with that same Big Easy smile.

"I bet you do learn fas'. I bet you enjoy it, too. Lil' bit of shakin', lil' bit of bumpin'. Be righ' up your alley." Or so he'd like to imagine. With a body like hers, he was sure she'd be able to make the dance work to her advantage. "Maybe some Cajun dancin' afterwar', non? 'Dat take a bit more skill." It really did. It took a lot out of you to have to move and jerk around that much, without any real time to stop. It was one of those never-ending dances that had to be done with a lot of energy. Like Salsa.

"But you gon' be alrigh', long as you stay 'wake, Chere." In his professional medical opinion, that was. "An' if you get so tire' you can' keep your eyes open, 'den we gon' fin' out who 'de better fuck." That part came with a little laugh, because he didn't mean it, of course... but it would certainly be an effective way of keeping her awake!

At his response, Shannon couldn't decide whether she should laugh or frown. She did not like the idea of looking like hell in front of anyone, most especially good looking men, whether or not she was interested in them. "You keep saying that and I might start to believe it and get a big head about it," she commented playfully in response to his repeating the opinion that she was the prettiest girl in the place. "Besides, you said yourself that you haven't met everyone," she pointed out.

With a cock of her eyebrows, Shannon smirked. "You think so?" she asked when he it'd be right up her alley. "Maybe..." she added pensively. "I've never heard of it, but dance is dance and I'm game," she finished with a small smile.

Letting out a sigh, Shannon nodded. She had a feeling that staying awake was her best bet, even if she was exhausted. When Gambit remarked that if she couldn't stay awake then they would find out who was the better fuck, Shannon laughed again. Wincing from the pain of the movement, she reached over to smack him on the shoulder he hadn't been babying. "Stop making me laugh, I said," she complained in good nature. "It fucking hurts, dammit."

Sam made his way around the remains of the museum, his eyes seeking out the place where he'd left Shannon. He hadn't wanted to leave her earlier, but the sudden realization that Andy was in no shape to move out of the way of falling debris and that it was possible no one else would think to check up on him, he hadn't really thought he had a choice.

He had made it past the few buildings on the outer skirt of the town before he'd seen the tendrils black smoke rising from the burning church. By the time he'd gotten there, head pounding and lightheaded from running he'd found only a shell of the building he had napped in just the day before. He'd called out his friend's name, stepping foot into the smoldering church and dirtying his hands and jeans in ash and soot as he tried to make his way through the rubble.

He'd sat in the shadow of the church for a long time after he'd found the barely recognizable and burned body of Anders buried under a charred pew. Two pews down he'd found what was left of Andy's journal and he hadn't been able to keep looking after that. A part of him knew he'd find him there and the thought of Andy dying by fire made Sam's stomach turn. He tried to imagine reasons for Andy to have left the church before the earthquake hit but none of them seemed plausible. It was true he'd gotten his stitches out, but he wasn't anywhere near to 100%. Sam wasn't sure Andy would've ventured far from the church unless he had to.

Eventually he'd gotten to his feet unsteadily and made his way back to the road and back towards the museum, not because he was headed to the relative and imaginary safety of his now destroyed room there, but because he'd promised Shannon he'd come back. By the time he'd turned the corner and she'd come into view he'd decided that, more important than anything else, he needed to find Dean.

He approached Shannon and the man she was talking to, squinting against the sunlight to see if he recognized him. He didn't.

"The church is gone." Sam announced his voice flat. He stepped up to them, noticing the man's red eyes and feeling the hair stand up on the back of his neck. "What are you?"

Gambit had been smiling easily-- at something Shannon had said-- and was rocking some to push to his feet once he saw that figure coming towards them.. but then Sam (that had to be Sam) was speaking, and Remy slowly pushed himself all the way up, dusting his coat off as he did. "You mus' be Sam." Yes, he was a clever one, wasn't he? The Cajun was coming a few steps forward, pushing both hands into his pockets so he could grip a few of the bolts in his pocket, in case he needed them. He was sure, that if Dean hadn't been in so much pain that he couldn't think, that the other brother would have attacked him. So he wasn't taking any chances with this one.

"Wha' am I? I'm uh Cajun. Wha' are you?" He lifted his eyebrows slowly, red on black eyes focused intently upon the taller man. Gambit had decided he didn't like this whole.. people being taller than him, thing. First Logan (Logan! Of all people! That tiny little---!) now this guy? Maybe he needed some shoes with a bit of a lift in them. But he put that out of his mind for the moment and finally flashed an easy grin, his lips curling at the corners to reveal white teeth, at Sam. He was trying to be nice, at least.. okay. So maybe he was picking a fight by not coming right out and saying he wasn't a demon and that he'd helped the guy's brother. Maybe. Don't fault him for that.

Shannon looked up at the sound of Sam's voice and her smile fell away. The church was gone...and the tone in Sam's voice lent her the idea that maybe his friend was gone with it. Before she could offer any kind of condolance, the other two were talking and Shannon caught Sam's eye and shook her head, giving him a significant look. "Gambit, Sam; Sam, Gambit. He was keeping me awake," she offered, unable to stand and feeling that much more small by comparison to the two men.

Her eyes moved to Gambit then. "Thanks, by the way. For hanging out. I didn't mean to keep you, so I guess you're free now," she added with a small smile.

"Sam, your friend...?" she asked gently, furrowing her brow sympathetically as she hugged herself with one arm, fingers fiddling nervously with one of the sleeves of Gambit's shirt tied around her waist.

Sam glanced down at Shannon as she introduced them, catching a look that clearly asked him not to ask very many questions. Still, even though she'd said she'd believed in monsters on their first day there, he didn't know if she knew about demons and what they were capable of.

He looked back at the cajun stranger, studying his eyes for a moment as Shannon thanked him for hanging out and keeping her awake. He hadn't seen any demon eyes like that before, but that didn't mean they weren't out there. He looked once more at Shannon who genuinely seemed grateful as she spoke and then she turned towards him and asked him about Andy and he felt like he'd been punched in the stomach.

He swallowed and shook his head. He thought he should tell Shannon that he'd found Ander's body, but he just couldn't right then. He looked back at Gambit, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt at least temporarily. There were plenty of people here that had demon-like attributes but weren't demons. Besides, he had more important things to focus on right now. Like Dean and Shannon. He'd be damned if he failed them the way he'd failed Andy. Again.

He sat down beside Shannon. "How are you doing?" His brow furrowed at the extra padding on her side.

Gambit turned to watch him go past, a little disappointed that he hadn't gotten anything out of the tension filled moment. But all the same, he gave Shannon a wink, then was waving a hand carelessly into the air, as if to say he'd be back, before he pushed it into the pocket of his jacket and began walking away, cutting the corner of the museum close, and disappearing from sight just seconds later. He had no interest in watching smoochy boyfriend-girlfriend time.

Shannon gave Gambit a weak smile in return for his wink and watched him, distractedly, as he went before looking back at Sam, saddened for him as he shook his head rather than answered her question about his friend. Shannon didn't know Andy; now she never would. It didn't hurt her personally to know he was gone, if only because she didn't know what she was missing. She'd never even talked to him on the journals, so much as seen his handwriting here and there. But, she was sad for Sam's sake.

With a reflexive shrug that caused a wince, Shannon shook her head. "I've been better, but I could be worse," she replied grimly. I could be dead, apparently, she thought miserably feeling another wave of intense sympathy wash over her when she thought about Sam finding his friend like that. It felt like a slap in the face and a punch in the stomach at the same time, seeing a hollowed-out shell of a person that you care about; she knew, because she'd felt it when she'd first seen Boone after he'd died.

Shannon rested her head on Sam's shoulder and closed her eyes. "Let's not talk, let's not think. Can we just sit here for a few minutes and just..." her voice trailed off. Just what? "Let's just sit."

Let's just sit together and allow ourselves the tiny victory of knowing that one another is alive and that we're not in that bad of shape, all things considered. Let's just be right here, right now, and leave it at that...just for a few minutes, she thought as she took one of Sam's hands in her own and relaxed against him. Time to shut out the rest of the world and just be thankful that she was - and he was - okay.
