Day 10: Post Office - 1:15pm
Who: OTA
What: Seven point five
When: 1:15pm - 5:00pm
Where: Post Office
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

The sun was shining high in the sky and a gentle breeze stroked the leaves of the trees, making them, along with the severed stub of rope on the clock face from the day previous sway lazily. It was quiet. Perhaps it was too quiet, for the lack of birds chirping or insects buzzing.

All in all, the day was one of the most pleasant as of yet for the bulk of the involuntary residents of Vas Captio, save, of course, the heat. Maybe it was a bit too hot to be entirely comfortable.

It started small, as most things do. A light shuddering from below made the counters creak and what post office boxes were left open swing slowly on their hinges. The front door groaned and then everything fell silent again.

Suddenly the tiny building shook and rattled to life. The walls protested with loud shrieks as wood splintered. Old crates of packing supplies exploded as they were thrown against the walls and counters full of heavy mailroom equipment went crashing to the floor. All in all, the tiny building did not sustain much structural damage but the front door popped open, its hinges shattering and leaving it wide open for anyone to enter and discover that in the miniscule room behind the post office boxes is a door leading down into a complex underground tunnel system.

Vas Captio was still, again, and silent once more.

Luna Lovegood & Remy LeBeau

It was about thirty-five minutes after the severe earthquake that Remy finally was able to shed the title of 'Hero', having taken their injured to the gym for attention. He'd had to leave behind Edward's leg with the Doctors, which was sort of disappointing. 'Hero' certainly didn't suit Gambit. Sure, he'd lept into a death trap to save three people that he didn't know very well.. and he'd hauled them back, with a hurt ankle and a throbbing shoulder, and then he'd been roped into helping some at the Gym. But he refused to acknowledge that it made him any less of the lying thief he was. He didn't have any real desire to be one of those good-doers from the X-Men, not really. He liked what they stood for, but he was always a different sort of man.

Apparently, not today.

Once he'd finally broken away from the Gym, the Cajun had moved slowly towards the end of town, looking for a quiet spot where he wouldn't be guilted into helping more helpless people. But one thing that had drawn his attention immediately was that the door of the Post Office was open.. the red-head slowed his pace when he saw it and crept forward, as if it was going to bite him if he moved too quickly. After talking to L'initiƩ, he was definitely more curious about exactly what was going on here. So when he finally circled around that open door, one hand resting on the edge of the door and gripping it tightly, while the other came to rest on the door frame, he was peering inside, eyes narrowed just some.

The Cajun, really, didn't look as bad as most. Ripped pants (just at the knees) with a bit of dried blood.. and really, that was it. He'd gotten off very lucky. Just some soreness left over. But none of that even phased Remy. In fact, he'd forgotten all of his aches and pains once he saw the open door, peeking out from behind the fallen boxes.

He let out a slow breath. That was the way out. He'd been right about this place. This Post Office was the key. But he only got one foot over the thresh-hold before he was interrupted.

Again.

Hurrying to find help had not gone quite as well as she had hoped, as destruction was everywhere. She had not been up to full strength and energy to start with, and now, cradling her shiny raw hand against her chest, she was even slower. Still, she did not falter in her search. The gas station was just...gone, and so was passed by, the blonde witch finding her way towards the Post Office.

The dirt streaked white sundress fluttered about her knees as she moved forward, her long blonde hair wild and streaming down to her hips.

Luna spotted the man with some relief, calling out to the man with bright red hair and a long brown coat. "Hullo?" Her Devon accent thickened by recent events, as well as general tiredness, her voice floated over to the stranger without much substance. Utterly devoid of any sort of panic, oddly enough. Even if her entire appearance spoke of the recent chaos, and a smear of blood that was not her own could be seen at the bottom side of her dress. Where she had wiped her fingers after brushing away the blood that had been streaming into Dean's eyes.

The Cajun turned when he heard that voice, letting out a breath. Well.. she didn't look too bloody. He let out a breath and stepped away from the Post Office, shutting the door behind him with some force (since the hinges were broken, it didn't move easily, and he had to wedge it in there to assure it wouldn't pop open, he didn't want anyone else getting in there before he did, lest they get caught and the escape route be compromised.

"Hello." The red-head greeted in return, slowly moving away from the ramshack building behind him, to come forward and closer to her, taking in her appearance as he did. Really, she didn't look worse for wear. Some blood, and she was favoring her hand. But overall? She was moving, breathing, and obviously was well enough to talk. Maybe she just wanted directions?

Or so Remy hoped. Regardless, he smiled that easy, Cajun smile.

She observed him simply, accompanied by a single blink of her wide eyes. Cataloguing him and his appearance as best she could, but of course leaving room for additional information as well as modification at a later time. One could not get a sense of someone immediately without being able to radically alter such judgements with further interactions. That way lay the way of the closed-minded, a category that Luna most certainly did not fall into.

Keeping her hand curled in close against her body, she tilted her head for a second, not reacting in any other particular way to his coming closer to her. His eyes caught her attention, as they would anyone who had not seen them before, her curiosity spiked despite the situation. Despite why she had come out of the woods and searched for someone to help.

"I require assistance," Her cadence was simple and as unhurried as one could be while having left a bleeding... friend back among the trees. "Perhaps you could help me?"

Yes, his eyes always drew attention. He didn't look normal, like Logan. No. He was uncannily handsome, but those eyes.. they got everyone's attention, good or bad (mostly bad, actually). And it was obvious to see that they had caught this girl's attention.. but Remy just put on that smile and left it in place, nodding as he came closer, limping just slightly. He must have been quite a sight. Handsome, relatively uninjured as far as she could see, and with those eyes? Like a demon who'd just come up out of that tunnel he'd closed off behind him.

Creepy, to say the least.

"I guess I coul', Petite. What sort of help you need?" His thick accent marred the words in some places but left them alone in others. It was just the way it happened. And he'd noted her accent-- British, right? He couldn't pick apart the different European accents, unfortunately. English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh.. all sounded basically the same to him, mostly because he hadn't ever heard them together before. During his time here, he'd pick them out.

Creepy? No, she would not necessarily classify them as such. Eyes did give things away, in her opinion and experience, but his did not necessarily sparkle with any kind of madness or malevolence. A window to the soul, some had said.

Those she feared, those she knew to be closest to demons, they had had a vast array of eye colors and shapes. But none had had anything like this stranger's. By her logic, she had no immediate need to fear him for it. Simply added it to her mental description of him, and found them of interest.

His accent was no more usual to her than hers was to him, and she could not classify what it was exactly. It tasted of France, but was not. Something American, perhaps? They all seemed to be just slightly different, but her lack of experience with Americans and how they should or did sound meant that she could not tell where it was from. A physical ocean that lay between their two homes stretched in more than just physicality to divide them.

"Dean," she answered simply. "Dean was hurt protecting me from rushing hooves of fright."

Clever girl. It showed experience beyond what normal girls her age would have. Of course, Remy was assuming, for the moment, that she was a normal human. But eventually, he'd find out she wasn't. Eventually. He was keeping an eye on everyone here, after all.

"Dean. D'accord. Lead 'de way, Petite. I follow." Assured from the red-head, who was pushing his hands into his pockets. That was the easiest way to keep from jarring his arm, because it certainly still hurt. A lot. Throbbing hard up near his socket. His ankle hurt too, but he'd been able to walk it off for the most part.

"Rushin' hooves of frigh'? Soun' like qui'e 'de descrip'ion." He was interested to see exactly what these 'rushing hooves of fright' had done to the boy named Dean. He was picturing, of course, a trampled mess.. but he was sure there'd be more blood on the girl, if that were the case.

Never had she been either considered nor called 'normal.'

She gave a soft sort of nod, turning to lead the way back to whence she had come. This time it would be a good deal shorter, as she knew which way she was going. Not one to be easily lost, at least not when she had already traveled a path, out of sheer necessity, Luna could easily lead the way back to where she had left Dean.

Especially with the trail of metaphorical breadcrumbs left in her wake. Not so much breadcrumbs, really, as floating golden bubbles every several meters. Small, but eye catching in the sunlight, when one knew what they were looking for and at. Without thinking of it, she lifted her unharmed hand up, palm towards the sky and created another. As a sort of comfort device, reminding herself of her magical ability not being fully out of reach.

"There were so many, in chaos, I could not tell you which animals ran for safety. While we lay in their path."

Those bubbles had caught Gambit's attention and the mutant was staring at them as he passed them by. An ungloved finger came out to tap at one, before he moved to tap at the next. Those weren't anything he'd ever seen.. but if she could make them-- yes, she'd just made one, and he watched as it formed in her hand-- it meant she was a mutant. It was nice to know their was another one around, aside from the Kitty-Clawed Wolvie. But really, the other man had been a welcome sight in this strange place.

"You been run ove' by uh deer?" The Cajun prompted, unable to keep that little grin off his face. They'd been run over by deer? She had said hooves, after all, and he doubted that horses or cows would have gone unnoticed.. and there wasn't anyway that elk could have fit their horns through those close trees in that deep forest.

"Whats wron' wit' your han', Petite?" He was slowly coming up alongside her as he asked, so that he could look aside at the hand she was cradling.

An instant after they were tapped, each bubble popped, as if they were simply Muggle soapy water full of air. The golden gleam lost in the light as they disappeared. They were magic, but not invulnerable.

Not knowing what conclusion Gambit had reached about what exactly she was, and missing why he was grinning for likely purposeful reasons, Luna's focus was on continuing to move along the wandering path she had taken to find help. "Deer live in the forest in some number, with the shaking of the Earth they panicked and fled." Fled right over her and Dean. In fact, she was well aware of the fact that she could have been quite hurt if not for his timely intervention.

He reminded her of her hand, and her silvery blue eyes dropped down to it, spreading it out to examine the shiny, red damaged skin. Something that did not hurt all that much until she actually looked at it. Remembered that she had been burned. "The Earth...opened and burning air touched it."

Wow. This girl was a little off her rocker, wasn't she? Well, that happened sometimes. Even mutants had insane people among them. And perhaps she wasn't insane, just.. eccentric. Wasn't that what they liked to be called?

Weird. Pot calling the kettle black.. but weird.

"An' ran over 'de two of you? Well, 'de one of you, non? You look like you escape 'de wors' of it." Thanks to her friend Dean, of course. Dean. Hm. He focused on the next bubble as he popped it, before finally leaving them float in the air as he walked along side her through the thick forest. "'De steam comin' up outta 'de cracks? We didn' run into any of 'dat, luck'ly. When we get Dean back to 'de Gym, you have 'dat han' look at as well." Not a suggestion, but rather an order. Gambit did a lot of looking out for people, for someone who hated labeling himself as one of the 'good guys'.

Fingers curling up around the sore and painful flesh, Luna protectively brought her hand back up just under the hollow of her throat, the side of her hand against her sternum.

Each bubble popped in their wake as they passed, as if simply waiting to be seen by their creator again before they expired. Although she did look over and up, and up to look at his eyes again.

"The two of us," she agreed lightly. "He covered me, but is very hurt for it." Luna was a good deal lighter and more fragile than the more heavily built Winchester, and even then he had suffered many broken bones for it. "Yes, superheated air in the form of gaseous water." No, she was not quite as dim as most believed, as hard as that was to contemplate for most. "Dean first," she spoke in a calm tone, although she was agreeing that she would see a doctor once Dean was seen to first.

No, not dim. Just crazy.

But when she said that, his eyebrows raised. He, unlike her, was dimmer than most believed. He'd never been to a school. Never stepped foot in one before a few months ago when he'd joined up with the X-Men. All of his learning had come from practical use and from listening to others. He'd learn a great deal here, if he kept hanging around the Doctor. It'd be almost as good (if not better) than school, ultimately. He had street smarts in abundance, though.

"Dean firs'." He agreed in a simple tone. "How bad you t'ink he hur', Petite? An' how far into 'de fores' is he?" Gambit had a feeling that if this kid couldn't walk, he'd be stuck carrying him back, because this injured girl certainly couldn't help him.

This was going to suck. This hero stuff sucked.

Seven years of school, intense study broken up by periods of fighting, training and the short four months of kidnapping. Luna had learned the most extensive amount of Wizarding knowledge that they could teach her. All sorts of seemingly important information, as well as actually important information, and bizarre pieces of misinformation.

"Ribs, arm, wrists, hands, bones here and there all broken." She could do little, if anything to heal him, but she could at least see what was broken. "Something wrong with his shoulder, the joint is out of place." Luna wished Madame Pomfrey was there right then, she could magick him back into one piece with minimal pain in several blinks of an eye. Wandless magic might have opened up enough for the young witch, but she was not going to experiment with attempting healing magic. Which could easily go horribly awry, as she well knew.

No one needed an arm without bones.

"Short walk," she answered, without much solid measurement behind it. "If we follow the path."

"Aah, c'est malheureux. Disloca'e' shoul'er. Some of 'dat, I can fix. The shoul'er? Defini'ly. I set bones 'fore. He ain' gon' like it, but be bes' for him, so 'dey don' bump 'roun' while we gettin' him to see 'de doct'r." And as she announced that they needed to follow the path, the Cajun only nodded.

"Woul'n' do to get los' in 'de wood, while we tryin' to be 'de rescue par'y, non?" A light joke, though it seemed obvious to him that this girl wasn't particularly into joking. That was a shame. But she'd have to get used to it. Maybe her incapacitated friend would be more up for some light-hearted, Cajun-tainted humor.

"We gonna need sticks. An' his shir'." Assuming he was wearing a shirt, of course. Gambit would be perfectly fine with tearing it off of him and ripping it into strips to help stabilize some broken bones.

Oh, this was really going to hurt that kid. But the Cajun was looking forward to it.. sort of a payback, for his own dislocated shoulder this afternoon. It hadn't been Dean's fault of course.. but it didn't matter to Remy.

(And this thread now moves into the Forest)
