Day 10: Clock Tower - 1:15pm
Who: OTA
What: Seven point five
When: 1:15pm - 5:00pm
Where: Clock Tower
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

The sun was shining high in the sky and a gentle breeze stroked the leaves of the trees, making them, along with the severed stub of rope on the clock face from the day previous sway lazily. It was quiet. Perhaps it was too quiet, for the lack of birds chirping or insects buzzing.

All in all, the day was one of the most pleasant as of yet for the bulk of the involuntary residents of Vas Captio, save, of course, the heat. Maybe it was a bit too hot to be entirely comfortable.

It started small, as most things do. A gentle rumble and shudder of the bottom most floor of the clock tower, rattled the turned over tables and debris; disturbed the dust-bunnies on the wooden floor. Everything was quiet again, for a split second in time, before things went downhill from there.

The earth began to quake, convulsing under the force of nature - or, perhaps in this case, the Powers That Be - the stillness of the day broken with movement and the quiet shattered with the crash and burn of the once distinct buildings as they crumbled or, as it was the case for the clock tower, fell.

On the second floor, the decrepit ceiling, already worse for the wear, caved in, fluttering the long, thin shingles down to the floor. Shattered glass rained down, glittering in the bright sunlight as the face of the clock gave way and fell to the earth outside below. Both the bottom floor and the ceiling of the first floor, which doubled for the base for the second floor began to crack on their respective weak or non-existent foundations. On the first floor, the wooden floor boards began to splinter and upraise, snapping loudly in time with that of the floor above them. Seconds later, the floor above collapsed completely, raining debris, broken wooden planks, and thick, massively heavy chunks of the wood which had been laid in a criss-cross fashion beneath it in order to hold it up. A large number of loose bricks were knocked completely free, coming down with it.

The whole of the clock tower remained mainly in tact from the foundation to the place where the second floor was to begin. From there, upward, was someone to look at it from the outside, had caved inward, only a few stray bricks hold in place. The stairs leading from the first to the second floor remained, however cracked, loose, and, in some cases, hanging by a thread.

Vas Captio was still, again, and silent once more.

Rorschach and Merope

It was a rude awakening for Rorschach, whose nighttime duties left him exhausted until around 1:00, anyway. He slept, curled up, in the doorway of the area he shared with Merope, and what woke him were the floorboards cracking and splintering under his back. Leaping to his feet, he scrabbled for balance, only pausing once to check that his mask was safely in his pocket.

Finding his partner, of course, was his first priority.

"Merope? Merope! Where are you?!"

Merope was not sleeping for the moment as she was just walking around, allowing Rorschach to have peace and quiet. At the moment she was standing on the second floor and started hearing noises outside, she took her time walking in the direction. Her eyes widened when she noticed what was happening and suddenly felt the same as the Clock Tower began to break apart, the second floor caving in and her lithe form found itself sliding down.

She got cuts and bruises and fell from the second floor and onto the the first, she groaned and her body started to seize up. Merope's intense fear caused a sudden pain in her chest, her hand gripped and she cried out, trying to stand on her feet.

She felt small shards of debris touching her and making her whine or wince until a rather large shard shifted and went through her forearm, had it been much bigger, it would have been severed.

Merope's breathing was short, struggling to not feel such sudden stress. While she was trying to cope, she was unresponsive other than breathing an crying.

Rorschach, who had been on the first floor, experienced the collapse from a different perspective, falling under a heavy shower of debris just after hearing Merope cry out. He shoved rubble away from himself, angry at the earth and the people responsible for this place, and most of all at his own weakness for succumbing to a building coming down on his head. Cursing, and holding his temple where he suspected he was concussed, he started searching through the dust for his partner.

Fortunately, he was able to find her fairly quickly simply because of her soft crying. She looked grey, and had a piece of glass through her arm, but she seemed to still be alive.

He shook her by the shoulder. "Merope?"

Merope felt a squeezing intense pain from the heart attack she was experiencing, she cried out while gripping her chest with one of right hand. As she was still mostly responsive, she felt a shaking of her slight shoulder and a familiar voice was hear, she knew immediately who it was. She was struggling, immensely, just to keep her body from having a sudden death.

Her sobs were constant for a long minute until she finally felt it subside after a little bit longer. Merope had to remind herself that she was rather safe an not in danger, even though a large shard had gone through her arm. That pain had not hit her yet, she fell to the side and laid on her side, limp. Her mind was elsewhere.

While she laid there, she could hear his voice and feel him there but it was difficult to reply to him verbally.

Rorschach recognized the symptoms of a heart attack immediately, having seen them before on various occasions. As a masked hero, it was of course his job to be at the scene of a catastrophe, and the shock proved to be too much for some people. That seemed to be the case here. Locating Merope's heart, he placed both his hands over the spot and began administering CPR, pumping and breathing and doing his best to save his partner. He would find her help momentarily, but he had to get her stabilized first. He glanced at the glass shard through her arm, but ignored it in favor of more important things.

Her already weak heart couldn't take massive amounts of fear or stress, why she was even alive to begin with was probably a miracle. Merope wasn't breathing well, her heart was hurting and she felt hands flip her over and start making her boy work for her through CPR. While she wasn't in her own mind at the time, she took a soft breath finally so she was breathing more normally this time when her heart began to pump blood again.

Rorschach had given her relief, again.

Had it been anyone or herself, she wouldn't have made an effort to live on her own. She felt as if he had taken such good care of her heart that he deserved to have it. Slowly, she moved her good hand to his neck and wrapped her arm around and hung it there, loosely. While she was nowhere near being painless, she looked his face over with a series of winces, her eyes noticed his wound near his head. "....You're....--hurt..." Merope tried words but they were hard on her mouth and she stopped.

When Merope started showing signs of life again, Rorschach breathed a heavy sigh of relief, sitting back, letting the adrenaline in his system run its shaky course. She was still grey, and looked like death warmed over, but his partner was alive, and that was what mattered.

"Not important," he insisted gruffly, when she embraced him and noted his bloody, bruised head. "Am taking you back to gym. Read that they have medical supplies there... had heart attack. Important that are monitored following it." he stood, scooping her up without asking bridal-style, careful to support her in a way that wouldn't be painful to the girl.

Merope didn't want to be move or rustled, but she had no choice in the matter. She easily shifted,"...N-No, you're hurt...no, no. You rest too..." She frowned as he lifted her, a loud yelp was muffled into his shoulder from her opposing arm with the glass shard in it being moved as it had cut slightly into her.

"Y-You are my good man." Merope felt that he needed to hear those words, as she felt he wasn't appreciated nearly enough. She made sure that the sentence let him know that it was her showing slight possessiveness.

"Will be time," Rorschach assured her gruffly, wavering where he stood but planting his feet firmly into what remained of the foundations of the clock tower. "Am fine. Better off than you. Will take care of urgent business and then afterthoughts." Hearing her soft voice telling her that he was not only a good man, but her good man, Rorschach didn't know how to answer. He only knew to go forward, towards help for his partner, and so that's what he did, careful not to jostle the fragile girl in his arms in a way that would hurt her.

Merope worried about him, watching him wavering and tensing beneath him as if she didn't want to trust him with her weight. While she might have been in worse shape, she was used to being in that position and not caring about herself. Using her strength some, her arm went around his neck and she pressed her lips against his cheek a few times. She was aware that he didn't like affection, not at all, but allowed her to do things like that anyways.

The black-haired girl raised her eyes to his wound,"I am afraid you are hurt..."She frowned.

"Not hurt...." Rorschach said, even though his head was killing him. He winced as a wave of nausea hit him, fighting off the urge to simply sit and fall asleep. He was almost certain that he was concussed, but he had partner's duty to take care of first.

OOC: Would you like to end the thread here and mark it complete, since it's pretty clear that they got to the gym?
