Day 9: Afternoon
Who: Lexie Grey and Dean Winchester
What: Splinters. (Dude, who does Dean think he's kidding?)
Where: The Gym
When: Day 9, Afternoon
Rating: TBD
Status: Complete

From the time that Lexie had found herself on her own in the gym again she had set herself to work. Something had clicked in Lexie's brain - something that would not allow her to remain still - she needed to do something, needed to keep her focus off of where she was and what she was feeling. The best way to accomplish this? Clean.

The exam area was whiped down and the muddied footprints that had trailed from the door to the tables and back again were mopped up off of the hardwood with ease. These actions kept her busy only a short time and soon enough she was back on the prowl, looking for ways to keep her mind busy. Peeking into one of the doors that lead off into a darkened hallway, Lexie realized that there might be a room back there she could call her own. Overcoming fear she stepped into the dark, littered hallway. Turning to the first door on her right she found a janitor's closet. Continuing to the next it was a hallway that lead to the locker rooms.

Pushing open the next door, Lexie found what had probably once been a small store of sorts - perhaps where tickets or concessions had been sold from. The door was one of those half ones with a little ledge that hung off like a counter. The room beyond the door, barely six foot square was just what she was looking for. A room with a door that had a latch. She could lock herself in at night. Looking up at the ceiling she spied the current source of light - a long, skinny window. "At least nobody will come climbing through it," she remarked, feeling quite self satisfied.

Propping open the door with a hunk of folded cardboard she set her attention back to moving her things from the main room to this tiny little alcove all her own. She could nest in there. She could feel safe in there. Lexie Grey had finally found her own space. Weevils, clones, waking up naked - it didn't matter she'd managed a safehouse.

Stacking the couch cushions and her blankets and her sweatshirt and her food Lexie tried to pick up the entire load at once. She knew immediately this was a bad, bad idea. First thing to go: a can of pears. Next thing to go her sneakers. Finally the whole load tipped and Lexie was left standing in a pile of everything she owned in Vas. It wasn't much but it was hers.

"Great," she groaned, bending over to try and put everything back into some semblance of order. "I guess I'm going to have to do more than one trip," she sighed.

At least she had a place. Finally.

Dean wondered if everyone who encountered Lexie Grey felt like they were showing up for their prom date. It wasn't the same innocence he felt with Luna - Luna was sort of untouched and simple. No, this was more like dating - wow, yeah dating, he'd really thought that - dating the president of the chess club or something. She was very smart and funny and he couldn't get enough of her. In a place where he disdained everyone who treated it like a country club, he could only sit back and sing "Hot Blooded" in his head every time he saw her.

He burst out laughing, having a very hard time holding his hands still as he actually pictured himself in suspenders and a bra. He'd loved Spamalot and all things Monty Python for as long as he could remember but never until he'd landed in this place of bright pink hoodies and hamburger lined coats, had he ever thought he might end up looking like a member of the cast. He even pictured lipstick and that was more than he could handle. Hence the laughter.

His hands felt perfect to him in hers. She seemed like a capable doctor, even if she'd said she was only an intern, and he trusted her completely. Trusted her enough to tell her what he really did if she wanted to know. But she hadn't asked and he wasn't going to really offer. He'd said enough in their past meeting. Maybe she would draw her own conclusion.

"I was crawling around in the house I found. It's all made of wood and I had to squeeze through a tiny tunnel into a hidden room. Well I didn't have to, I wanted to but there you have it," he answered. "Think you can get 'em out for me so I can go back?"

Lexie hadn't run around flirting with anyone, well aside from Dean. She'd met Andy, the creepy clone, Logan, and the Red-Eyed guy; and the furthest thing in her mind with any of them had been flirtation or sexual chemistry. Even when she'd met Dean she'd tried to ignore the simultaneously boyish charm and male physique and stick to business. Though, they both knew where business had gone.

The air in the gym felt thick and heavy all the sudden, or maybe she'd just realized how hot it was in there. No fans, no air conditioning, nothing cool. She couldn't help but long a little for the blizzard again. Alright, so maybe she had other reasons for longing for the blizzard.

Wait, take out the splinters so he could go back? Were they back to business again? When did that happen? One minute suspenders and a bra, the next splinters and exploring houses. It was all kind of up and down for her and Lexie was trying to decide which side of the fence he actually wanted to be on. Lexie Grey might have moxie, but any sense of fearlessness had slipped away a bit, even if she hid it well behind her smile.

"Oh, yeah, sure," she didn't want to get to work. Not just yet. She was worried if she let go of his hands, put on the gloves, things would just be business from now on and she wouldn't have another opportunity like this one. "Three minutes and counting," she said quietly letting her smile drop a little. He'd started it this time, leaning in with that quick brush of his lips. Well, Lexie was going to get a very important message across.

Going on tip toe she let go of his hands, a fluttering kiss of her own planted as she tried to reign in her grin. "Two minutes," she punctuated, pulling away and stepping backward in the direction of one of the exam tables. Cat and mouse game -- and go.
