Day 9: Morningtime Meeting
Who: Jenny & The Doctor
What: Meeting in person
When: 10:30 am or thereabouts
Where: The Library
Rating: PGish (may be raised if Jenny drops an f-bomb or two)
Status: Active

Jenny had not slept well at all. Whether she was going to admit it to herself or not, she had been terrified by that clone or whoever it had been calling himself Captain Jack Harkness. In spite of Shannon's assurance that Jack would never behave that way, she wasn't taking any chances. If she saw that face ever again, she was running. And if she couldn't run, she was going to scream. It had kept her inside the library, barricaded in the special editions archive, curled up under a fire blanket on the floor clutching her journal to her chest and only periodically catching a snatch of sleep when her lids fluttered closed out of pure exhaustion.

She woke with a start as the sun's rays finally crept beneath her lashes and roused her tired brain. Scrambling to her feet, Jenny realized where she was only after she'd rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands and looked around. Breathing in the dust and must of old books, she felt the rumble in her stomach for food. How long had it been since she'd actually eaten?

It didn't take long for her to unbarricade the door, something that registered a pang of fear in her hungry stomach. If it was so easy for her it could have been very easy for anyone else. She wouldn't think about it because her stomach was audible in the empty halls now as she wandered farther into the building in hopes of finding a stash of candy bars of an old vending machine of some sort.

The Doctor had slept fine - he just hadn't slept much. Having stayed up until the wee hours nearing dawn had left the Doctor a bit on the sleepy side. Who knows what had driven him from bed as soon as it did, but, the Doctor knew that if he had stayed there he would have just fallen asleep again.

Pulling on his jacket, the Doctor left the museum with little pomp or circumstance. He was out for a walk in the crisp mid-morning air and hoping that it would help him stay awake.

The Doctor mused a moment when he realized that for all the things he'd been up to, he hadn't taken a peek into the library just yet. That was just unacceptable - his not stepping in to the library - even if he suspected it was going to be a less than complete collection. Though, when the books had come from would be telling as to the status of this town.

Pulling open the door the Doctor stepped into the musty space, a tree having taken up residence in the middle of the room. Given his most recent experience with the Vahsta Narada, the Doctor had a surreal moment of discomfort. He would resist the urge to count the shadows. Shoving his hands into his pockets, the Doctor took a few long strides across the room. there were plenty of books, and most of them looked like they hadn't suffered terribly at the hands of the elements.

"Well look at that," the Doctor smiled, pulling off the shelf a copy of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. It wasn't his favorite of the books (preferring the last in the series best); but, it still made him smile to think that it was there. Pulling open the book he took glance at the delicate pages, his attention becoming fixed on the thicker illustrated pages and their fine protective tissue that set nicely on top. This book was a work of art.

Unconsciously, the Doctor started humming, Reinette's waltz apparently quite firmly lodged in his head today.

Jenny froze the moment she heard the humming echoing through the cold marble halls. At first she'd thought it was another mewling sound in the vicinity of her stomach but when it continued, her smile faded quickly into wide-eyed fear. It didn't immediately occur to her that there were possibly people staying in the building because she'd been holed up in one back corner or that someone might be stopping by for a book to read out in the sun. As creative as her mind was, it should have, but she was still in full fear mode.

She stopped moving, her fingers trailing the edges of bookshelves at the far end of the stacks in the main room with the trees. She'd considered coming through there to find what she was looking for and if she wasn't able to find it there, she could go out the front. The back of the building seemed less safe even though it wasn't like the front was any more public with so few people in the town.

Her fingers caught on the warped binding of a book that looked to have been damaged by water. Jenny caught her breath as the tome fell onto its neighbor and, in an otherwise lovely domino effect, several others. Then, as if the noise she had made couldn't get louder, all the falling books dislodged and clattered to the floor with a booming thud. Jenny squeaked and covered her mouth with both hands.

The Doctor had been quite happily admiring the work of art that felt wonderfully heavy in his hands. Not many made books like this one any more. It was substantial in both craftsmanship and content. It was fantastic. The Doctor's tune continued quite happily until a thud came wafting through the building. It could have been anything, but whatever it was had hit the floor with a very flat thud.

With care the Doctor replaced the volume on the shelf, his whistle long since dead. It wasn't that he froze out of fear so much as out of curiousity. He didn't want to miss anything. So, he willed his hearts still a moment and held his breath. For what it was worth, the library seemed quite quiet.

"Hello?" He called cheerfully. "Anyone there? It's just me, the Doctor," part of him hoped that the noise had come from Martha; most of him knew better.

Jenny let out her breath, not having realized she was holding it until she did so. It came rushing out in a low sigh and her shoulders relaxed, almost slumping into herself. She had been a hair's breadth away from running like a rabbit back into her hole.

Blame it on the lack of sleep or the fact that she was balancing on a razor's edge at all times no matter what she allowed to show on the outside. She was terrified of everything right now. Except hearing that name, the Doctor, had such a calming effect that her heart was already slowing as she straightened the hem of her dress and took a tentative few steps toward the light from the broken ceiling.

"D-Doctor? Is that really you?" she asked almost timidly from just behind the edge of a stack. She could see him through the shelf above the tops of the books but he couldn't see her unless he could distinguish her from the shadows beyond. She leaned down slightly, her fingers on the bindings of a few books, to see him better through the books.

A strange-haired man in a suit with - was it? - sneakers. Could that really be the man with whom she had so happily traded intellectual stimulation through the journals.

The Doctor heard the nearly tiny, broken voice as it came from the shadows. There he went, counting them, taking stock and making absolutely certain that every one of them had an owner and a source. He was starting to think that episode had made him phobic of libraries the way that Midnight made him phobic of tour buses.

The Doctor could hear what direction the voice came from, and even the slow steps; but as of yet, the figure had not revealed herself. "It's me, hello," he said quietly, waggling his fingertips before shoving his hands into his pockets and shifting back and forth a little.

"Who's the owner of that voice back there?" His smile never faltered as he tried to peer into the shadow. "Only fair you at least tell me your name," he prodded playfully, choosing not to move from his spot lest he frighten away whomever was tucked back there.

Jenny watched him looking for her and took an unconscious step back. She felt angry suddenly that all of this had to happen this way. If he was the Doctor, she wished she could have met him with an open smile and happiness. He was someone she wanted to get to know better. Someone who's mind she wanted to delve into and explore.

Maybe. Maybe this sense of ease that she felt at just saying the name could spill over into everything else. Maybe she could trust him and if she couldn't, it wouldn't take her long to figure that out. She could run and if she couldn't run, she would scream. It seemed like she'd set her mind on that with just about everyone. A surge of lonliness filled her stomach where it had once been empty with hunger.

Stepping out then, impulsively taking her life into her own hands, she felt the sun spill across her and it blinded her for a moment as she spoke. "I - Jenny, Jenny Schecter," she said a bit louder. She straightened her back and pushed back her shoulders, hoping to appear more confident than she actually felt right now. "We spoke in the journals?"

The Doctor stood quite comfortably in the silence; the moment of the unknown feeling exciting - far more exciting than what had become the almost mundane course of his recent days. The Doctor would wake, go for a walk, check the journal, watch for Martha, and then work on the modulator. Today's round of exploration was already yielding a fairly high level of intrigue.

Canting his head a little the Doctor held his usual non-threatening grin. He watched as the shadows seemed to shift and a young woman walked from them with steps that seemed almost forced Clearly she was afraid of something. "Jenny Schecter?" The Doctor let his mind think for a moment - whom had he seen attributed with that name? Then it hit him like a pile of bricks and it showed as his head abruptly canted like something had physically impacted him. "Sometimes I just so very, very thick," he breathed, scratching at his head as his mouth spread into a wide smile that rapidly infected the rest of his features. "That's you then, mystery bard, yes?" He'd hoped that it was mostly because he had wanted to meet anyone who had a true appreciation for the word Thespian.

If only he could find someone who appreciated happy primes.

No matter, whether she was who he thought she was or not, it was clear that she was scared and needed someone to at least get her to some place safe. "Are you alright, then?" He asked quietly.

The closer she got, at the slow, stiff pace she had set, the more at ease she felt. There was something about the way he looked that, where at first she was in disbelief that he could be taken seriously, actually now worked like a calming effect. He was well put together even if not streamlined into one category of fashion. There was no pretension or artifice in his eyes either.

Her face pulled into an immediate smile when he smiled. It caught her so off guard that she wanted to mirror his pleasantness that she quickly rose a hand to her mouth. She touched her smile briefly with her fingers as though she had never smiled before. Then she laughed softly at herself and let her hand fall away. She still felt fearful but not quite so much as she had before.

"Yes, that would be me," she admitted and walked a little more easily out to meet him. For some reason she felt like she ought to shake his hand, that someone of his obvious intellect would be somewhat formal. He didn't seem the formal sort just now but that didn't stop her from extending her hand to him.

Jenny laughed lightly at herself again and waved her hand dismissively in spite of the fact she didn't find it funny. "I'm afraid of everything," she said with a small sigh. "I've been by myself since I got here pretty much and it's just been one thing after another. Yesterday I met Captain Jack Harkness or maybe his clone and he cornered me. I got hurt," she indicated her left arm which was concealed by an ugly mohair bolero she'd been wearing to keep warm but would have been covered with scratches if he could see it.

The girl who came forth moved with such rigidity that the Doctor couldn't help but wonder what had set her this way. Had she slept strangely? Been injured? Just had an odd method of locomotion? Whatever the reason as she moved more and started to do so with greater normalcy the Doctor found himself relieved.

As her smile started to be a reflection of his own the Doctor knew that the Bard was going to be alright. Even as she reached up and tentatively evaluated her own expression the Gallifreyan found himself quite pleased that she was suddenly so at ease.

As she moved forward and extended her hand the Doctor found himself sort of surprised. He wasn't used to shaking hands, yet he had twice within this day's very short span. "Brilliant," he said warmly, taking her hand and giving it a shake. Such a funny little gesture, handshakes.

"Everything?" He tried to make sense of that sentiment. There was an awful lot in the universe to be afraid of everything. Surely she didn't mean that. "Captain Jack? Surely not Jack..." The Doctor mumbled. "I'm sure the real Captain Jack Harkness wouldn't harm you - I happen to know him quite well... well, unless you call relentless flirting harmful," His face which had gone serious tried to take on the familiar expression of a smile as he tried to lighten her mood a bit.

"Do you need someone to take a look at that?" Being that he couldn't see any wound the Doctor thought it only made sense to inquire. "I think I read that the clinic is open until noon," He'd also read that the doctor there wasn't planning to make housecalls - which was rubbish. Apparently that doctor needed a bit of an inspirational talking to.

Jenny liked the enthusiasm with which he shook her hand. It was comforting to be touched by another human being too so she did not want to let go when the brief gesture was completed. She made herself do it anyway and hooked her fingers together behind her back a little self-consciously.

"I guess not everything but a lot of things that have happened recently haven't helped me feel very safe, that's for sure." Her tone was somewhat serious as she mentally went back over what had happened yesterday. It had brought so many horrible memories back to her mind.

"Oh no. He wasn't flirting. He's kind of a big guy and he came running at me with a big smile, yelling, 'Hi!' or something. I mean, maybe some people consider that flirtatious. I don't." He'd nearly overloaded her with fear. But when was she not nearly overloaded with everything here?

"I - no, thank you. It's just scratches. It bled for a little while but it's okay. I cleaned it in the bathroom last night." She didn't want to go to a clinic. She didn't want to be there with possibly sick or injured people she didn't know. She hated hospitals because the people there always made her feel dirty and about to get some kind of horrible disease.

"So, um, are you here for a book?" she asked conversationally. She was going to try to sound less like a frightened child. Talking to him had already begun to calm her nerves. Talking more should therefore help her more.

There wasn't much the Doctor didn't do with enthusiasm. Somehow he'd been gifted with a certain zest for life. It seemed sometimes even when he was just standing still he was only just slowing down so as to better find his bearings before shooting off in another direction entirely.

"I understand quite a few people have that problem," he remarked, thinking quite pointedly at that doctor. Maybe Sarah Jane would go have a talk with her for him - in this case he didn't know how well received he'd be. Sometimes people didn't really favor his special brand of encouragement. "If he wasn't flirting, by the way, he wasn't Jack. The actual Jack would probably flirt with a table." He was serious. Dead serious.

"Actually, I thought it was a real shame that I hadn't been in here the whole time I'd been out and about. Besides, the editions of the books here might give us a clue as to the origins of this town." He walked over and plucked a random volume from a near by shelf. Walking back he mused as he turned the cover. "Moby Dick," he squinted a little, turning the pages to take in the beautifully illustrated book. "What a marvelous little edition."

Jenny giggled lightly when the Doctor said Jack would flirt with a table in such a serious tone that she knew he meant it. "In that case, I'm sure it wasn't the real Captain Jack Harkness and just the clone version. I'm glad to know there isn't really an over-sized puppy-like man here in this place with us." She made a mental note to be on her guard whenever she did meet the real Jack Harkness. Last thing she wanted was to be flirted with by someone who would flirt with a table. That didn't sound very bright to her.

Pointing with her thumb over her shoulder in the direction from which she'd come, she said, "There are even older editions in the back rooms. Some of them are entirely in latin and there is a large collection of religious texts from more countries than I ever thought existed in one room." Some of them, when she'd seen them, looked like they might have been from different planets but she'd never admit to having thought that. She'd never believed in aliens or anything supernatural even if she had been brought up a good Jewish girl. God had forsaken her back before she'd ever hit puberty. If he'd ever been there at all.

Following suit, Jenny lifted a book from the shelf nearest her and brushed some dust from the cover with careful fingers. Her eyes widened and she squealed under her breath. "But this is impossible!" She looked over at the Doctor with an excited expression on her face. "This is my book!" How could her book be here in this library full of beautiful editions of classic literature? And covered in dust no less. It wasn't even an edition that had been printed during her lifetime. Not yet, at least. It had lovely pen and ink illustrations.

The Doctor heard Jenny's giggle and his hearts leaped a bit. For a girl who had just said she was afraid of everything, she was starting to show signs of life. "If you ever meet him, you'll see why that description of him is quite comical."

"Latin texts?" The Doctor's brow rose curiously. He felt like his Latin was too rusty to be trusted at the moment. Then again, if he was right and the TARDIS was near, he might be able to decipher some of it. The Doctor was actually convinced that the TARDIS was around - otherwise, how would everyone be able to understand one another - especially that Japanese lot.

"You're book? You wrote a book?" He asked this cheerfully, closing up the book with sudden finality as he sidled up next to Jenny. "You wrote a classic, eh?" He was peeking over her shoulder, taking in the words slowly. He couldn't catch much of the plot as she siphoned through the pages, though he thought he might like to. "What's your story, Jenny?" He asked, inquiring about the plot.

Now that she had her own book in her hands, something settled down inside Jenny. Something that had been writhing and wriggling for as long as she could remember after she got here. It was like a peace filling her that even the calming effect of being near the Doctor hadn't produced.

Running her tiny fingers over the spine, she flipped through the pages somewhat slowly, looking for any tell-tale sign that this was not, in fact, her book. Everything seemed as it should be though. It was exactly her words in exactly the way she'd written them. She had a dozen copies of the hardcover and paperback editions at home but nothing at all like this. The edges of the pages were even gold!

"It's called Some of Her Parts," she answered, letting her finger trail along the upper portion of a page bearing the title. "It's my memoirs. It was a bestseller but I didn't ever think of it as a classic. They never published it like this while I was alive. How can it look old and worn and classic like this? Is it an anachronism, Doctor?"

She looked up curiously at him, seeking his wisdom because her heart was pounding now with anticipation and excitement. It was really something to think that after she died, or maybe hundreds of years in the future, her book meant something to someone enough to be published like this. It was amazing and it blew her mind.

The Doctor watched as Jenny's demeanor changed. She'd shifted from a shakey girl to a woman who seemed a bit overwhelmed with an emotion the Doctor could not quite put his finger on. Her fingers traced the spine of the book in a way akin to the way his own would occaisionally run along the edge of the TARDIS' console. It was a gesture of both memory and reaction.

'Some of her parts, she said the the Doctor drank it in, his attention less on the contents of the book than on her reaction to it. "A creative anachronism," he mused. "They've managed to pull us all from the reaches of time and space, I'd imagine that they might do the same with these books as well." The Doctor wondered if his books were there. The old logs he used to keep in the TARDIS, the blue bound book that he would one day write for River Song - were they here, too? If they were, he had no desire for he, or anyone else to find them. Spoilers.

"It's so unfortunate that sometimes don't get to see the fruit of their accomplishments," he was thinking of course of those great, long lived things that sometimes didn't blossom until after their originator had long since died.

"A proper novelist?" He offered her a smile. He liked the thought of that for her. A bard, indeed.

It was like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Ms. Jennifer Schecter had a small corner of her normal life back with that book in her hands. It might be an alien edition to her but they were her words. It was her life on these pages. She couldn't have begun to express what she was feeling right then with words. Even though words were her existence, sometimes they failed completely to be descriptive enough to capture the human experience in full.

"Very creative." She nodded distractedly. "I guess you could say I'm a proper novelist. I went through my share of the turn downs and struggles that any of the greats experienced. I have a whole forest-worth of rejection letters in my study at home. I wrote a screenplay as well which was being made into a movie that I was directing. Before I got kidnapped to this place."

Jenny looked at the Doctor with a smile in her eyes. "I can't believe, after all of the hell they've put us through, that they would be so nice to me like this." Her face fell suddenly then and she looked down at the book in her hands with less enthusiasm. "Do you think it's - that there might be something wrong with it? Like maybe I shouldn't have picked it up?" She looked a bit forlorn but her fingers still caressed the pages reverently as if it were the works of someone else, someone vastly important.

And what were the odds she'd find her own book among the thousands on the shelves in this library? That seemed foreboding to her too now. Reluctantly, Jenny held slowly closed the beautiful book and carefully, as though it might be a bomb about to explode, she placed it on the nearest shelf, shaking her head slowly. Her eyes held a look of fear now. She'd come full circle in such a short amount of time.

"That sounds busy," he said, plucking another volume off of the shelf. He'd never heard of it so he carefully slid it back again. "How do you ever find time to do anything else?" The Doctor had the benefit of having nothing but time; but, he thought often about the way the people he'd met managed to fill theirs. If she spent her life with her nose to the paper, how did she ever find time to live?

He watched as she slid it back, and promptly he reached out and pulled the volume from the shelf, taking in a deep breath. He didn't smell nor taste anything out of the ordinary. The pages were flipping slowly. "It's just a book. A very special book. I'd hold on to it," he held it out to her and waited for her to take it.

"It is - um was? - busy. I hardly had time to breathe before I ended up here. It's easier not to think about things if you don't have time. I scheduled my days completely. A year ago I was much more free but now..." she let her voice trail off thoughtfully.

There wasn't anything else except occasional interludes with Nikki and the odd night out with the girls. But those nights out never felt welcoming these days. She'd become too ambitious and focused for them to like her much anymore. It made her feel very insignificant then to realize that she really had nobody and nothing by her own choosing. Except Nikki. But Nikki had probably already moved on. She knew that.

"I lived the story on those pages. I don't think I want to have a reminder of that pain and the other memories around me all the time here. It's bad enough the way it is already. You know?" she said as casually as she could manage. She was starting to feel anxious as if the large room around them was suddenly closing in all around them.

Impulsively and without really thinking about it, Jenny threw her arms around the Doctor and held onto him. "Can you just put your arms around me for a minute? I just need -" She wasn't sure exactly what she needed but throwing herself at a mostly unknown man wasn't her usual MO. In fact, men in general weren't her usual MO so this wasn't an advance or anything. She felt so small and lost suddenly.

Ah, so she was a filler. He wondered what had hit her so hard that she had to take her mind away from life outside her work.

There was a change in the girl in front of him. It was like a snowball that grew the longer the book stayed on the shelf and swelled again as he plucked it off again. "This," he breathed, looking to the book. "For all it's pain is a triumph, just look at it. Not another story like it in the universe. I'd call it marvelous." He set the book carefully back on the shelf as the girl in front of him continued to crumble.

Pushing herself unexpectedly forward, the Doctor found himself with a girl wrapping her arms around his middle. He didn't gasp or pull or shrug. No, the Doctor did what came naturally, his arms went around her shoulders and held.

If there was one thing his companions and friends would agree on, at least recently, is that in the whole of time and space the Time Lord gave good hugs. "You're just fine," he said quietly.

He liked hugs, hugs were good.

His words didn't fall on deaf ears. Jenny was always open to hearing compliments on her work. It made it all worthwhile to be a writer when someone called anything that came from her fingers and her mind "marvelous." He hadn't even read it but he was so generous that Jenny felt herself drawn to him the way she was always drawn to people who were beacons of decency in the darkness of selfishness in the world. She was part of the selfishness now. She regretted it deeply but how did one change after such conditioning as she'd had?

With his arms around her she felt secure for the first time in so long she could hardly remember. Tim had made her feel like this. Tim had always been the one who had given her unconditional love. The love she'd thrown away for Marina. For a few heartbeats she closed her eyes and pretended that the Doctor's arms were Tim's and that time had been reversed back five years. When she'd still been fresh and doe-eyed and the world had held mysteries beyond her own personal tragedies. When all of what had gone into her book hadn't been at the forefront of her mind in such a self-destructive way.

Jenny would have liked to stay there in that moment for hours and hours until none of this was real anymore and only the fantasy remained. But she'd already slipped deep into it when Sid had helped her get to the gym in the thunderstorm. It hadn't been attractive. She'd be damned if she did it again. She sniffled and wiped at her nose then and pushed away from him looking sheepish.

"I'm sorry," she said quietly. "Thank you. I didn't mean to just, you know." She indicated him, making reference to just throwing herself at him. "You really are wonderful, you know that?"

It was a long moment there, that hug lasting longer than he had perhaps expected. The Doctor wasn't often a comforter to those he didn't know - and sometimes not even then. He was usually too busy trying to move them on and away from what bothered them; or, trying to distract himself from feeling the same.

In this case, the Doctor just wanted to be needed. He'd felt almost impotent for the last week. His work had gone slowly, his attempts at finding Martha had failed, and it seemed like more and more of the people he had charged with his care were turning against him. The Doctor liked being challenged by his foes, not by those he was trying to help. As such, to be needed for something so simple as a hug - something he could so easily provide, it made the Doctor feel useful once more.

Jenny pulled away and the Doctor made no motion to hold tighter - he'd served his purpose and that was fine enough.

"Oh, no, no bother," he responded to her thanks.

When she said he was wonderful his face lit up like a Christmas tree, "I am aren't I?" Oh, yes, the Doctor was still very much in.

Jenny hadn't meant to hold on to him so long. It had just felt so good to be close to someone. It had been a very long time since she had just been held with no strings attached. She wished she could script more hugs like that into her life because once she'd had one, she wanted more. She wouldn't subject him to that though.

She smiled at him when he said it wasn't a bother. Then she looked down, playing with the hem of her tea dress before looking up at him again. His expression was so boyish and pleased that she couldn't help mirroring it again. Her smile was a less enthusiastic version but it was a smile nonetheless.

"Yes, you most certainly are," she agreed. "I'm sorry I interrupted your search for a book. Were you looking for something specific? I could um help you look if you wanted. I was hoping for some paperbacks I could stick in my bag and return when I was done but there don't seem to be many of them in here."

She was chattering nervously now. Embarrassed by her very public rollercoaster of emotions and throwing herself at him, she wanted to change the subject and try to establish herself as less of a freak than she'd appeared so far.

The Doctor was more than pleased to see her smile again. It was hard to fake a smile well, it was like the languages of Darfoto: something always managed to get lost in the translation. Then again, when a language consists of simultaneous clicks, gestures, blinks and the occasional flatulence it's pretty easy to see why some things could get misinterpreted.

Not often people agreed with his hapless attempts at self promotion, so when Jenny did the Doctor tried very hard not to look even more pleased with himself. "Well, it just seemed a shame that there be a library that I hadn't visited. I was curious what sort of books it might have is all, I wasn't really looking for anything in particular."

"Though, I think you and I both might be best suited with a little fresh air, yes?" He nodded his head toward the way out. "Up for a stroll?"

Jenny watched his reaction to her agreement and felt a little confused. She'd never seen someone who was so intelligent, bordering on brilliant probably, who was so pleased with himself in the way the Doctor seemed to be. It was almost like a child who was proud of himself for the frog he'd caught. Pure and warranted self-enjoyment. He knew he was wonderful and enjoyed being told so though he didn't appear to have a large ego over it. Very confusing to Jenny who came from a world of self-important board members and executives who only cared that they were recognized properly for what they'd done.

She tilted her head, taking in a slow and deep breath, looking at the Doctor searchingly. Was he humoring her? Was he really interested in taking a walk and prolonging this meeting? She'd already proved herself to be somewhat neurotic and she knew it. Her mind still flittered between the present and the way things with Tim had been back before she'd been imported to Los Angeles and things had go so terribly awry.

But he wasn't Tim. Though she would not say he was pale by comparison either. There was a peacefulness with the Doctor that she could appreciate. Something that she would love to experience more of. And getting out of this dusty museum of dinosaur tomes sounded perfect.

"A stroll? Yes, I think so. Just what the Doctor ordered, right?" she said and attempted a playful smile. "I haven't felt very safe to walk outside for a while. You'd be doing me a favor, I think." A rare, genuine moment for Jenny, admitted vulnerability. She didn't think it would be abused.

Make no mistake, the Doctor has an ego the size of a small galaxy. An ego that was beyond reproach or impingement. More importantly, it was an ego that managed to do quite well hiding out beneath a bubbly, friendly exterior. His ego was like a chameleon that could bend and hide fairly easily but was easy to spot once one knew what to look for.

"Ah, well, the clones are gone and it's bright and sunny outside. I think the fresh air would do you some good, bard." He responded, extending his hand with a wiggle of his fingers and a grin.

"Besides, I haven't even managed to have a proper breakfast yet." The Doctor reached into his pocket with his free hand and pulled out a pair of apples, which he held out for her to take as his slow pace started toward the way out.
