Entry tags:!complete, day 09, ianto jones, location: museum, the doctor (ten)

Who: The Doctor, Ianto, and Open to Museum Dwellers
What: They meet at last!
Where: The Museum
When: Day 9, Early afternoon
Rating: PG (though, with Torchwood, you never know)

Status: Complete

The Doctor returned from his walk to the church with a fairly thoughtful look on his features. It was fairly clear that his first physical encounter with Ryuzaki had left an impression. Though, the Doctor didn't have any intention of talking about that right now. No, he was back in the museum and he wanted to get his attention back on the modulator. He had let himself become side tracked as of late - and it was time to stop losing sight of the final goal.

Stepping in through the museum's front doors the Time Lord meandered down the hallway to the tiny office trned his work space. It was like the TARDIS in the sense that he both lived and worked there. Sadly, it was not bigger on the inside than on the outside, so it felt a wee bit on the cramped side.

Pulling up the chair formerly occupied by Gambit earlier in the morning the Doctor carefully lit the fire in his little smelter. He was going to work on more of the wires - and soon he'd need to start doing loop checks and making certain that everything fed in the correct direction and that his improvised switches worked the way that they were supposed to. By his estimation he had nearly 37 individual lines to check. It would take some time. However, first he needed to get the wires attached.

He had been working quietly when he realized there was a strange feeling in his left pinky.

"Oh, no!" He gasped, setting down the pin he had been using and carefully blowing out the flame. This was not a time to panic. No, there would be no panicing. While Jack might not have been affected by the materials they had salvaged, the Doctor, apparently had been. "Who uses lead based products? Really?!" He asked, hopping out of his chair and bounding down the hallway.

"Chalk? Has anyone got some chalk?" He called, coming to a halt in the foyer.

Ianto paused in his winding while the Doctor smacked himself around and flailed like a man who's epiphany was currently mugging him violently. He assumed this was normal for the Doctor, since it was understood that the Doctor didn't work on the same wavelengths as other people. Ianto had proof, too. The Doctor ate chalk to cure lead poisoning. Anyway.

"Not these walls, ah, Remy. The glass walls circling the compound. I take it you haven't seen them yet." Ianto's accent caressed Remy's name in odd ways, making it sound sort of stupid coming out of his mouth. Not as bad as being called Yanno, though. "I haven't, either, except from afar. If you look up through the trees, you can catch a glimpse of it. It's rather shiny."

When the Doctor's tantrum was finished, Ianto calmly reached for another bit of jumper to begin unravelling. "Skeleton key. Works on everything? ..Wait, post office? I don't remember anyone mentioning the post office. Think it's got a perception filter on it?" He fully intended to go on that adventure, even if it turned into a giant mess. And when asked about water, Ianto reached behind him to sort through bottles. Most were cola, since he promised caffeine to various people, but there was some water. One of which was handed up to the Doctor.

"Not enjoying the taste of your breakfast?" he asked dryly. Nearly as dryly as the chalk, actually.

The Cajun watched with no small amount of amusement while the Doctor threw his little fit, the smile creeping wider on his face. And when he mentioned the post office, he shrugged up his shoulders, forcing his coat to sway somewhat, before it settled again. But then Ianto was calling him by his actual name and that drew red and black eyes to lock onto him, the amusement there waning for a moment before he smiled again. Careful, Ianto. The Doctor had introduced him as Gambit for a reason: because the red-head had introduced himself that way.

"Maybe I go ou' t'morrow an' take a look myself." If he just kept walking in a straight line, he'd eventually run into one of the walls, right? If they were in a complete square around the exterior of the small town. "Percep'ion filter?" His eyebrows furrowed up some. "Saw it 'dere, plain as day, mon ami." But it might have explained why Gambit had stared at it a long time, as if to assure himself it was really there, before he'd gone up and tried to touch it. Like it was a mirage.

But then Ianto was mentioning the Doctor and his breakfast and the Cajun was turning to look at him again, pushing his hands deep into his pockets. "Breakfas'? Oui, where we get fed 'roun' here?" He hadn't eaten, of course, since arriving here several hours ago. He'd left his tic-tacs and his water with the Wolf lady. He was starting to lament that decision, right about now.

The Doctor caught the tail end of Gambit's souring expression at having been called Remy. Having read the same bit that Ianto had, it was fairly easy to ascertain that the only male name there was Remy and that must have been his. People were peculiar about names, and the Doctor was one to generally respect that - unless he felt like playing games with them, of course. Oh how he missed Rickey-Mickey-Mouse right now.

"Perception filter? It could just be as simple as the building being ramshackle and nondescript," he shrugged. Even if there was a perception filter being used it would be totally ineffective against anyone of high intelligence or moderate psychic ability. Perhaps that was why the Doctor had been unaffected.

Taking the bottle of water that Ianto had conjured with a grin the Gallifreyan started to gargle a little. "I'd say it left a bit to be desired," he remarked pointedly to Ianto. "It's whatever you manage to scavenge," he said to Gambit. "And Ianto here seems to have the market cornered on fizzy drinks," he raised his brow playfully.

Names didn't mean very much, Ianto felt. Given that he didn't know his own lover's birth name, he couldn't let them mean very much. Ianto shrugged a bit and tucked aside his latest ball of yarn, mentally calculating up the yardage. "Then I can't imagine why no one's attempted to break into it as of yet. I haven't gone exploring, but then, to be fair, I'm used to acting as General Support instead of a Field Agent." But he could be both, if necessary. It's just that there were so many about who wanted to be dashing Field Agents that he figured they could use support.

When Gambit mentioned breakfast and the Doctor mentioned fizzy drinks, Ianto offered up a bottle of cola to Gambit. "I've got tinned pears and a bag of trail mix as well. It's not quite the breakfast of champions, but we do need to keep our caloric intake up." To be ready for general arse kicking. "And, er, I'm a caffeine junky." So was Jack and a few others, so he didn't feel too badly about it. Besides, out of all the vices in the universe, this was one of the most innocuous.

"Alright, so when do we go and explore said post office? I'm rather interested to see if there's anything in there. Though, it may be another layer to the mind games that have been going on." Like the insider, like the experiments.

The Cajun leaned down to take the soda with a smile and lifted it a bit. "Trail mix? I take some of 'dat, mon ami." Definitely. Anything to go in his stomach. "'Dere any animals out in 'de woo's?" If so, he'd.. well. Alright, so there were no real weapons around and exploding a deer wouldn't make for good eating. Scratch that plan off his list. Maybe berries?

"My mama say never put off 'til t'morrow wha' you can do t'day, non?" Well, his mother hadn't said it, and really, no one had ever said that to him.. but he was saying it to the pair of them. So there. "We go now." Careful, Doctor, or Gambit was going to take over your role as leader of this strange little rabble.

"None that I've seen," he piped up to the question of animals. No birds, no squirrels, nothing. Though, just because he hadn't seen them, didn't mean they weren't there. For all he knew they could be surrounded by deer, he hadn't managed to get out of the museum much to really find out.

Another swig another gargle and the Doctor was almost rid of the chalky taste. Fantastic. Now all he needed to go was will away the tingly feeling in his pinky finger and he'd be set.

Gambit, it seemed wanted to go running off to check out the post office. The Doctor, usually would be quite ready to go do that aside from the fact they'd need somehow get the key there and that Ianto seemed to be so close to being ready to measuring the wall.

"I think I'd rather keep my attention focused on leaving rather than exploring, if that's alright," he had been thinking a lot about how he'd been getting sidetracked - how the people and the adventure had been pulling him away from what was important.

Was the Doctor the leader? Funny, he hadn't noticed. It's sort of strange how people just tended to follow and listen when he spoke, wasn't it? He hadn't come in and taken over Sam's place; and he certainly hadn't worked to dethrone anyone from being in charge. Yet, somehow he'd wound up there. If Gambit could manage to walk in and take charge, more power to him, it wasn't at all like the Doctor to fight for power, he had moe important things to take care of.

It wasn't so much that people were in charge, but more that certain people had an air of confidence about them. There wasn't that tiny panicky voice in their heads that didn't know what to do. Or, in Ianto's case, he was used to just generally supporting.

Ianto stood and dusted himself off and tried not to think about the awful thrift store clothing he was in. It just didn't fit correctly and that drove him mad. If he could, he'd spend an hour with a needle and thread to correct the fit of the clothes. There were more important things afoot, though. "Alright. I'm about ready to measure the wall, if you still think that's something that needs to be done," he said and nudged one of his yarn balls with the toe of his green Wellie.

"We still need the key as well and I don't know where L is at the moment. So rushing over to the post office is a bit daft, at the moment, I suppose." Though, his sense of adventure was tingling at the thought.

"You bunch." Gambit scolded with a smile, shaking his head only slightly and letting his hair sway with the movements. "One minu'e you wanna do one t'in'. 'Den you change your min'. I tell you what. You can measure 'de wall. 'De Doct'r can look pensive an' import'an', an' I'll take a nap. An' when we all done, we can meet up an' share our findin's. Sorry, Yan'no, look like you got 'de short end of 'de stick." He was, of course, just teasing.. for the most part. He did want a nap.. he had only been asleep an hour before he'd woken in the forest.

"'Less one of you got a bett'r idea?" The Cajun prompted simply, pushing his hands deeper into his coat pockets.
