I Like To Travel Lightly, Leave the Weight Behind
Who: Edward and River
What: Meeting
When: Day 9, around 4:00 PM
Where: Near the edge of the forest
Rating: PG-13

Edward had had a full day so far, even though time was a continuous spectrum to him and he didn't really think of days as changing or becoming other days. It came from being isolated in a castle for a long time with little light and no interaction. He didn't really look forward to things, and so he couldn't really plan.

Most of his meetings were sheer accidents. So, when he wandered toward the edge of the forest, he had no idea who he might or might not encounter.

River had been spending as little time in one spot as much as she could control during the day. She had spent the morning finding the body and then the rest of it trying to make the screaming stop. The dead were worse than the living.

She hadn't been paying much attention to where she was walking. All she knew is she had to get as far away from the dead as humanly possible. Unfortunetely for her she was heading to the forest where, up until today, most of the bodies had been found. As soon as she realized this she stopped suddenly at the edge, glaring at it as if someone would glare at a criminal for a bad deed. She then proceded to yell at the trees in angry chinese. She only paused when a new voice entered her head. Though it did take her a while to realize it was a living being she finally did and turned to it's direction.

River tilted her head a bit at the man with the pointy hands unsure of what to say.

Edward knew little of bodies; he had only ever seen two dead ones, and neither had particularly traumatized him. Maybe it was because he didn't fully understand death in all its gravity, or maybe it was because neither death was terribly unfair to anyone but him. Edward never noticed when things were unfair to him.

Just then, he heard a girl shouting in a strange, tonal language he'd never heard before. The words were unintelligible to him, but the frustration and pain and anger were all too real. His thoughts, if River could read them, were along the lines of apologies, mostly, since Edward's solution to most things was apologizing. Did I do something wrong? I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... please forgive, don't hurt me, don't hate me... I'm sorry...

"I'm sorry," Edward said, hanging his head.

River could pick up on the faint leak of his thoughts and all she heard was apologies. She slowly approached the man, her head still tilting to the side. "What for?" she asked not bothering with any of the lead in 'hello I am so and so's. Reading him she could see that he was not the perosn...or thing...that killed the man who called himself Light. However if he was saying he was sorry over and over perhaps he did something that she was not picking up?

What made things even more difficult for Edward was the fact that he truly didn't know what he was sorry for. All he knew was that this girl was upset, and that his appearance hadn't seemed to help matters, though she seemed calmer once he apologized. This confirmed, in Edward's mind, that it did indeed work to say sorry.

"Sorry that you're upset..." he decided in a small voice. "Are you OK?"

River moved again closer to the man observing his hands with wide curious eyes. "Scissors for hands." she stated calmly, "Created out of thin air." Her head straightened back up when his question 'clicked' in her mind, "No. Are you?"

Thin air? Edward watched the girl uncertainly. He didn't know what she meant by that, as he didn't know what she meant by a lot of things.

"I'm OK... why aren't you OK?"
