Who:  Remy & The Doctor
What:  After his dealings with Logan, he explores - Remy gets around!
When: 0355 - Day 9
Where: Not far from the museum.
Rating: PG-13 for possible language.
Status: Complete

This had been one of the most interesting days of Remy LeBeau's life, and that was saying something, considering the life that the thief had lived for the last twenty-odd years. First, he had been kidnapped and thrown into a forest, he'd had all of his worldly possessions lifted (except his clothes, thankfully). He'd met a girl who thought she was a wolf, then he'd run into Logan, but it wasn't really Logan, and he'd just needed to walk it off and think. He was tired, but he wouldn't be able to sleep in this strange place any time soon. So he'd begun to explore on his own, after leaving Logan's company. There were plenty of buildings, but it didn't seem like their were many people -- maybe that had to do with the time. It was, after all, still rather late (or rather early, depending on how you looked at it). He didn't know what time it was exactly, of course, because he had no watch. Maybe there was one he could lift around here.

It was so easy to fall back into old habits, without the watchful eyes of the X-Men on him, and it had only been a few hours by his guess. It didn't bode well for the small town, with the Cajun thinking thoughts like that already. He was so engulfed in thinking about what he was going to do to get out of here, that he wasn't paying much attention to the scenery around him, so it was easy for him to get close to the suited man without noticing him. When he did, though, Remy came to a stop. The man-- he had hair like a rooster, lookit that! It caused Gambit to smile-- was walking around like he didn't notice anything round him, either. So the Cajun took it upon himself to break the silence separating them. Maybe he could help. Or maybe he was behind this. Either way, Remy was hoping to get some more answers.

"You look ah lil' los', Mon Ami. Wha' you lookin' for?" Any answer would be acceptable, he was just looking for the way that the other man would answer. That would tell him what he wanted to know.

"For all we know they were people who donated their bodies to science and this is where they wound up." The Doctor shook his head. It bothered him to think of other possibilities. He was a man of impossibly high morality and an incredible amount of optimism.

Right in front of him it seemed that Gambit's poker face melted from a blank canvas to a laughing theater mask. He had called Gambit's bluff and he had been correct. The man wasn't a killer. "I told you I'm not one who's prone to lies," the Doctor reminded candidly.

Gambit went on with his joke, however and the Doctor smiled and shook his head. "Well, it sounds like yourself and Gambit would be in quite good company then, that seems to be the common occupation around here more or less." He was thinking of Dean and Sam; of Tonks the auror, and even the annoyingly literal Ryuzaki. They all worked toward what they perceived as good. The Doctor hoped they were all right.

"So, what were you doing with that bolt before?" The Doctor asked taking it up from the table and tossing it back to Gambit.

"Das true." He admitted with a tilt of his head. They could have been people who had donated their bodies. But he wasn't going to assume anything just yet. That could get them into serious trouble. "Oh, teacher? Oui. But I don' t'ink I could teach anyone anyt'in'. Not so good wit' 'dat." He made too many jokes.. he was too friendly. But those weren't bad things, really.

When the Doctor threw him the bolt, he caught it with both hands and shifted it over to his right, flipping it over in his hand a few times before he held it out in his palm to show the Doctor. "It's 'dat t'ing 'dat makes me special." Announced simply, but then he was closing his hand around the bolt, before bringing it up to study it himself. "It's why I got 'dese eyes." Not the power in and of itself.. but rather, the fact that he was a mutant.. the power just came along with it. "I woul' demonstrate, mon ami, but I don' wan' t'hurt you." When he said that, he smiled again. It was the truth. Even the smallest object could explode and injure someone. Maybe not kill them, but certainly leave a nasty mark.

Gambit, a man after his own heart, avoided assumptions. That was an admirable condition in the Doctor's book. The humor helped, too. This place needed a bit more humor with people running around at the moment scared out of their minds and seemingly looking to panic. It didn't help that they were in a place that seemed designed to elicit such reactions.

Gambit juggled the bolt and the Doctor watched both the man's hands and his eyes. It was always interesting to him to watch people who seemed to have such a refined level of muscle memory.

"Well, if you can't demonstrate, I'm all ears for an explanation." The Doctor was accutely aware that whatever Gambit did it modified the object's properties - to what was apparently a volitile state if the other was so worried about injury.

"Been all over the universe and you have some of the more unique qualities I've ever encounterd." From the Doctor, this was a compliment.

When the Doctor said that, Gambit caught the bolt from his last toss, and smiled slowly, the grin spreading out over his features until it reached those strange colored eyes. "Aw, Docteur, stop fallin' in love wit' me. It'll never work 'tween us. You a Time Lord, an' me a Cajun. Time as we know it coul' fragmen' apart. Be bad." He held up the bolt again though, so that he could see it properly.

"'Dis stay 'tween you an' me, oui?" The red-head would pause then and wait for conformation. When he got it, he nodded. "I charge t'ings. Kinetic energy. Makes 'dem go boom." Yes, that was the scientific term. Go boom. "Anyt'in'." Hense why he'd offered to 'fix' their situation. Of course.. if the box surrounded them and he made it explode.. they'd all be very char-grilled.

The Doctor's head shook with a wry grin. This guy was just as bad as Jack. For the sake of the cosmos, the Doctor knew he would have to keep them apart. It could be a matter of keeping the Universe from ripping in half.

The Doctor nodded. He was a good secret keeper, it was part of being a Time Lord. Knowing all that has been, will be, and must not be. That was a lot of secrets.

"So by touching them you infuse the matter's atoms with a great enough state of force that they can't contain themselves and explode outwardly?" He was greatly interested. The Doctor knew a thing or two about matter energy converters, but those usually involved some sort of field - not a person's ability to simply touch or hold them.

"Clever." Gambit repeated, as the Doctor put it all into real scientific terms. "'Dat's right. It jus' takes a lil' touch. I can do it to anyt'in'.. screws, cars, buildin's.. people." Now, that wasn't exactly a lie, he certainly could do it to people.. but the strength of his powers had been curbed just months ago, and he hadn't tried to blow anyone up yet, so he wasn't sure if he could still do it.

"You ain' never seen somet'in' like 'dat before, Docteur?" Remy leaned back in the chair once again, lazily flipping the bolt around in his hand, before he set the chunk of metal he'd been holding in the other hand, back on the table. "Maybe I show you sometime. It's cert'nly wort' 'de look." His powers never ceased to amaze people. His strength had been what really amazed people in the past, though. Remy LeBeau was certainly to be feared. Maybe not so much anymore, thanks to his recent downgrade.. but who knew if that would actually stick? And who knew if any of these future experiments would cause it to go away completely, and give the Cajun his full range back.

That could be devastating.

"People?" The Doctor, understandably, didn't much appreciate the sound of that. That would be quite a cruel way to dispatch someone. The Doctor found himself hoping that Gambit didn't do that often.

The Doctor leaned back into his nook, feeling the muscles in the small of his back appreciate the relief. "No, not without a machine." Microwaves, sonic waves, lazer beams, tachyon bursts - those were things he was accustomed to; but, tactile interface? That intrigued him. He wondered if it was a matter of Gambit's mind being powerful enough to do these things, or if it was a more subtle biological reaction.

"Sounds that way," he nodded. The Doctor's brain was still toying with the mechanics of Gambit's ability. The mere notion was fascinating to him.

"So, in your universe there are more people like you, then? Maybe not with the same ability but with similar ones?"

"People." He agreed. "Animals, trees, clot'ing.. anyt'ing an' everyt'ing 'dat has potential energy." He could charge anything with kinetic energy, because it was coming straight out of his body. Even if it didn't already have it to begin with. "Well, you jus' promise me no' t'be cuttin' me up t'figure it out, oui?" He knew that happened to mutants. He'd seen it first hand.

"Oui, 'dere are tons of us. Not as many as humans, but we startin' t'pop up everywhere. Humans are evolvin'." He tilted his head to the side, red hair falling into his eyes as he turned the bolt over in his hair, attention fixated on that one item. "Into us." That was the theory, in any case. And it was much better to think that, than to think it'd been some huge mistake. Gambit wasn't sure what he believed, but he liked the sound of evolution. It meant they weren't freaks.. they were the future. "Wolvie, too. He heals, don' die. Trus' me, I've tried." He flashed the Doctor a grin then, finally pulling his eyes away from the object in his hand.

While the Doctor was intrigued on some sort of level he was curious as to how he figured out that he could work his power on people. Had it been intentional? Had it been purposeful? The Doctor would just let his questions wander around in his mind. "Oh, I'm not that sort of doctor," not a proper doctor, as Martha might say.

"Evolution? That's brilliant!" To the Doctor that was really brilliant. Humans, ingenious enough to explore the cozmos and now they were developing on a route all their own? That would be something spectacular to observe. "Oh you fantastic lot," he mused. The Doctor assumed Gambit had already mostly figured him out - no use in continuing trying to camoflauge himself any longer. Besides, it was clear that his power was something Gambit felt the need to hide - which lead the Doctor to believe there was a certain level of trust to be had between them now.

He'd be right in thinking that his power was something he felt he needed to hide. It had gotten him in trouble more than it'd done him good -- and if the Doctor really thought about it, he'd be able to answer some of those questions for himself. Gambit had asked if the Doctor had ever done anything unexpected, if he'd ever accidentally hurt anyone, if he'd ever killed anyone. Then here he was, expressing that he could hurt people with his powers, and then admitting that he could charge people with kinetic energy. It wouldn't take too much to put it all together. But that question, if it'd been intentional.. that'd be a little harder to answer. But Remy didn't really seem the type, did he? That was the best sort of thief, one who could make people believe what he wanted them to believe.

And when the Doctor got so excited about the comment of evolution, when he said 'you lot', that clenched it for Gambit. He'd been right. The Doctor wasn't human! He was an alien. But he wasn't green.. well, those comics didn't know what they were talking about! He'd have to write his own comic when he got back to.. well.. reality. "So you an alien, 'den." Not a question, but a statement. "You look human." So did Gambit.. except for those eyes.

The Doctor really didn't seem to want to put the pieces together. He'd been piecing up enough lately trying to figure out puzzles and games laid out by the man behind the curtain. The Doctor never thought he might actually want to see the Cybermen - but, at least he knew what sort of danger to expect from them and how to defeat them. Or, maybe the Sontarans, they were easy enough to manage.

"I suppose the term alien is technically correct, though in my mind you lot are the aliens," it was a matter of perspective, really. "Oh yes, quite human looking. Though, I could say you all look like natives of Gallifrey."

The Doctor was drumming his fingertips on the floor beside him. As he thought a moment. "I suppose it's only fair we keep our secrets to ourselves, yes? I've had enough people react badly to the Time Lord in their midst that i'd rather not experience it while enclosed in a big glass box."

"My lips are sealed." He assured the Time Lord, leaning in some as he watched those fingers tapping on the floor beside him. "An' I can understan' 'dat. T'me, 'de humans are the odd ones, not me. But 'dat isn' 'de way 'dat 'de res' of 'de worl' see is." He breathed in through his nose and leaned forward some, putting his elbows there on his knees as he studied the man in front of him.

"'Dat wasn' so hard, oui? Coulda saved yourself lotsa time jus' tellin' me up fron'. But I guess you prolly had lotsa people reac' not so well to 'dat news, non? Big bad alien Time Lord, impress've title, all 'de same. But I read 'de comics. I know." The human race, indeed. Comics.

"Plan t'introduce me to 'de half-uh-dozen frien's of yours in 'de mornin'? Or you gon shuffle me out 'fore 'dey all wake up?" He lifted his eyebrows slowly, smiling as he did.
