I Took a Man to a Graveyard
Who: L, Bob, and Jay
Where: The drug/liquor store
When: Around noon on Day 8
What: Middle-school intimidation tactics. We'll see how far they go, since L's pretty pathetic in person.
Rating: PG-13 for now
Status: Complete

L was glad that the long morning was over and that the afternoon sun was high in the sky. It meant that half of this ridiculous day was almost over. It also meant that he would see Laura again soon, provided she finished her business out-and-about. He had no objections to waiting, of course... he just wanted, selfishly, to be near her again. The people in L's life had never exactly made him feel secure; while he trusted his caretaker Watari explicitly, he had always known that the man could take anything and everything from him at a whim. Others he had known had been suspects, like Light, or colleagues with no room for anything but a strictly professional relationship, or rivals whose titles he had eventually stolen and used himself.

Now, L was seated in the liquor store, carefully using a straight-edge to draw a chess board on the tiled floor. He was crouched and curled, in his usual favored sitting position, lining different types of bottles up carefully. Maybe, if Laura was interested, they could play later, or he could teach her how if she didn't already know. If not, well... he was willing to settle for more sex.

It was all Jay could do not to drop the bottles on L's head because of the laughter. He laughed so much at the skinny kid's threats his stomach started to hurt. He was probably just pissed Laura wasn't putting out for him.

If she hadn't acted all weird and disappeared on Jay, he was pretty sure she'd have put out for him. But oh, well, he had Justice anyway. He supposed he was supposed to remain faithful. Especially because otherwise that little bitch Silent Bob would tell on him. "I'd like to see you fucking try that, little bitch. You're the bitch who almost blew up the fucking Not Quick Stop aren't you? I oughta kick your sorry ass, but I'll wait for Silent Bob to do the honors."

L jumped and glared when Jay started laughing his head off. Clearly, this man either had no concept of danger, or he wasn't taking L seriously. He was still getting used to the fact that, in the glass cage, there was none of the respect and automatic prestige that came with his reputation in his own world. He was dying to tell Jay just how it was, having sex with Laura, but he'd let the man find out on his own. A gentleman never kissed and told.

"You don't think I could," L said. It wasn't a question, but a languid observation. "You don't know me... and you don't know Laura that well, apparently. But I know something of Bob, and he knows something of me, and I don't think that he has the guts to really hurt me. He's as soft as his gelatinous body."

Speaking of Bob, he had this feeling that Jay was headed to the pharmacy / liquor store. Well, that feeling was the way that Jay had screamed on his way out of the Not-Quick-Stop that he was headed there.

Bob had originally thought he'd just sit at the counter and watch the world not go by - but, instead he decided to follow his hetero-life-mate on his quest. He did this mostly because there was some shady shit going down in the journals and he ddn't want to wind up with some fucking punk ass clone of Jay. One Jay was enough. Thank you.

Through the doors came Bob, legs still quite covered in pink calomine lotion, and an expression that said, 'fuck' gifted on his friend and nemesis simultaneously.

Bob had dreamed of this moment - the epic, shining moment when he and Jay would kick L's ass. Jay wouldn't let him stop.

Oh, fuck yes.

Jay all but beamed at Bob when he saw him come in. Then, he pointed at L and shook his head. "Little bitch says we can't take him, or some shit. And Laura doesn't put out."

Shrugging, Jay walked over to stand next to Silent Bob, contemplating the weird fucked-up kid playing chess with himself using coke bottles.

L was aware that there were two people besides him in the liquor store now. He glanced toward the refridgerators, seeing Bob's portly reflection and Jay's joining it.

He carefully moved a Sierra Mist knight to put his king in check.

"One is one... an eye for an eye..." he mumbled, keeping his eyes on the pieces. Raising his voice slightly, he said, "You should both get what you need, and leave now. That's your one warning. Things won't go well for either of you if you hurt me." Even if Laura wasn't here, the promise she'd made to protect him lingered like the clove scent of her cigarettes.
