Domeki returned to the museum with all haste. The words spoken by Watanuki's double haunted him in time to his footfalls and he found that he couldn't quite banish the admonishments as easily when he was on his own. It was one thing for him to not flinch in the face of an insult but it was quite another to nurse a hidden bruise - especially a bruise which had been well deserved. Still, Domeki knew that it was not the time to be thinking of himself - not when there was a double of Watanuki wandering about and causing trouble and not when the very fact that Watanuki had a double likely meant serious repercussions. It didn't take much studying, after all, to know that a double was a sign of death.

Trying not to think too deeply on this, Domeki let himself into the museum. Only when inside did he realize that he hadn't asked Watanuki where he would be waiting but Domeki assumed that it wouldn't be all that difficult to find the other. His features grim, he wandered with purpose toward where he had last seen Watanuki.

Watanuki bit his lower lip as he heard Domeki explain about Tink. He was still worried for her: the tiny fairy had seemed happy of his company when they'd met, and it bothered him that she would rather be alone now.
However he saw no reason to complain with Domeki - he was sure that his friend had done all he could, and he could see that he wasn't much happier about this either. He'd have to go and find Tink as soon as possible, but now finding out about his clone was more important.

He listened quietly at first, but when Domeki told him about the kiss he couldn't contain his anger any more.
"He did what?" Watanuki exclaimed, feeling very upset. He could feel himself blush already at the sheer thought of kissing someone. It was also unthinkable that he would insult Tink.
"You know I'd never do anything of that sort," he pleaded with Domeki. It was a pointless question - of course Domeki knew, otherwise he'd have questioned him instead of realizing that there was a clone of him on the loose - but he needed some reassurance.

Even though he'd been prepared for this (he could hardly imagine a clone created in this place for good purposes) it had been a harsh blow.
"What about you?" Watanuki asked, carefully. If his clone had insulted Tink like that, it was only logical that he would have insulted Domeki as well. Watanuki was worried that Domeki wouldn't tell him about that.
Of course it was pointless to bring it up if Domeki already knew that it was just lies made up by the clone to hurt them both, but Watanuki would have felt better if his friend confided in him.

Domeki knew that Watanuki would never act as the double had but that was cold comfort when the thought had occurred to him that the double might have been placed into the situation with the sole purpose of saying and doing the things which Watanuki would not do for himself. This thought would be easy enough to dismiss if it had just been kissing and insulting Bell but the words which had been spoken by the double rang with just enough truth to cast a bit of doubt - and that bit of doubt was enough to grow into something much more.

"I know you wouldn't hurt Bell like that," Domeki agreed with a slight nod. That much was easy enough to agree to - especially with the realization that Watanuki hadn't ever been brave enough to even hold the hand of the girl on whom he had a longstanding crush. "She doesn't know you so well, though, so she might still be confused."

To the latter question, he just shook his head. Domeki wasn't sure that he wanted to add any additional guilt to what already had to be a heavy load - but he also knew that being honest with Watanuki was likely the best approach. "He said many things to me," he began vaguely. He did his best to keep his voice even and unaffected, not wanting to share the effect the words had had on him. "Many of them had to do with how I act around you - leeching the will and the kindness from you, making it impossible for you to be alone with anyone you like, using you to make myself seem better. Things of that nature - though he did also mention what a mistake it was for you to take the spider's curse from me."
