Edward's mood had plummeted quickly. He was beginning to fear a similar reaction to what had happened fifty years before in Suburbia. It had all seemed so wonderful at first, the new world a magical place for him to find friends and acceptance in, but so far things seemed to be going wrong. Edward was trying hard, he truly was, and some people seemed to still like him. However, he remembered accidentally cutting Shannon the day before (when she was being so kind, too!) and he knew that there was currently someone on the journals saying things about people. Some of the things were true, and some of them weren't; Edward knew this from watching people's reactions to the words in the space below before they disappeared.

He knew that he didn't have blood on his hands at that very moment, but he most certainly had before. He'd accidentally cut a few people, and himself... and he'd even killed a man at one point. Though he hadn't felt very much at the time, Edward had watched insects in his garden enough to begin to understand death. That it was something that wouldn't happen to him, but that almost everyone and everything else in the world would stop moving and turn to shells or bones.

Edward had attempted damage control to the journal entries, in his own sweet way, but it was starting to get a little bit overwhelming to the sensitive razor-fingered man. So, he'd set his journal aside and started to wander, a little heedless of where he was going, until he looked up and saw a towering ferris wheel. His face brightened as he forgot his troubles for a moment. The bright colors and interesting shapes of the carnival reminded him of the pastel world that had once welcomed him.

The clone smirked. Before the day was over there would be at least one person in town that would know him as the "real" Doctor.
"Don't worry, I don't think you're in danger. But there's a clone of myself too," he said with a huge sigh. In front of Edward more than anyone else he couldn't help bringing out his drama queen side.

"He's walking around and telling people that he has a plan to break the glass around this place, but he's just giving them false hopes. So far he hasn't done anything dangerous, but if he asks for your help be careful and don't believe what he says."
This, the Doctor reflected was probably useless to say. The man seemed so simple-minded that he'd probably believe whatever story he was told. After all, if he did believe him without wondering even once if he was the clone...

Poor, gullible, trusting Edward was probably that very person. He adored taking people at face value, seeing no reason for a person to lie about who they were. "OK! If you don't think there's danger, I'm sure there's not!" Edward's pale complexion drained further, however, when he heard that there was a clone of the Doctor somewhere! How terrible!

"I promise! I'll be very careful!" Edward vowed, clearly trembling in his leather boots. "I won't help a bad person, clone, with doing bad things!"

The Doctor grinned at Edward and leaned forward to give the metallic man a rather awkward pat on the shoulder.
"It's good for you that you met me first instead of the clone," he said, fake honest concern radiating from his face. It had been so easy he almost felt remorse for Edward, but it wasn't as if he'd done anything bad. Not very bad at least.
"Be careful when you go back," the Doctor said. "By the way, where are you sleeping?"

"Sleeping...?" Edward echoed uncertainly. He didn't sleep... even when he'd been in Suburbia, under the care and hospitality of the Boggs family, he had only lain awake at night staring at the ceiling and remembering things with lucid vividness. There was no rest for a man who came into the world the way Edward had.

"Should I find a place to go? I don't sleep... I don't need to..." Edward said, his fingers continuing to flutter. It seemed to be a nervous habit he possessed.

"Sorry," the Doctor said, looking curiously at Edward. He hadn't considered the possibility of Edward not needing any sleep. He was even unsure whether he would qualify as a man or a robot.

He shrugged. "You don't have to, I suppose," he said. "But don't you have a place to go... uh..."
If you get tired? If you're hungry?
It didn't look as if Edward might need any of those.
"It might be safer if you're not alone," the clone Doctor said. "There's people staying at the gym and the museum."

He didn't even know why he was trying to help Edward. But he was so pathetic, insulting him would be like kicking a puppy. There was no point in picking on such a hopeless person.
"Be careful if you are outside alone," the clone said with a sigh.

Edward tilted his head, looking perplexed, as the Doctor asked about getting tired or hungry. Edward liked food, but didn't have to eat... and sleeping, to him, was completely unecessary.

"Of course! I am always careful... I have to always be careful," Edward said, looking at his hands. "I don't want to hurt anyone, ever, at all... even though it can be hard, the best I can do is to keep from hurting others!" Not surprisingly, Edward had completely misunderstood the Doctor's clone.

The clone shrugged.
"Very well, then," he said, a shade doubtful. "Just... make sure nobody hurts you either. Goodbye."

His farewell was a bit awkward. He couldn't say something like "see you around" when it was obvious to him that he wouldn't be seeing Edward again. It was a pity; he'd liked the man, if only because he hadn't freaked out to him.
