Day Eight: clone!Jack and Ianto
Who: clone!Jack and Ianto Jones
What: Coffee and a shag maybe
When: Early afternoon
Where: The Library
Rating: TBD
Status: Active

This was going to be so much fun. He had started off in the Library with one of those wonderful little leather journal thingies they had given him during processing. There didn't seem to be anyone else around and it felt like the perfect place to be for what he wanted to do. Which was shag, of couse. That and drink coffee but there wasn't any. He knew there wasn't because he was told so when he was processed. That didn't stop him from wanting some. No, it didn't!

Whistling a tune from some old song written during World War II, clone!Jack gazed at himself in the pieces of broken mirror still afixed to the wall in the library bathroom, spiffed his hair a little and splashed some icy cold water on his face. Ah! He was ready. Ianto would be here any moment and he was sure he looked perfect. Everything was perfect. He would have his shag AND help the clone!Ianto at the same time.

"Good man, Jack old boy!" he said to himself, immitating Ianto's accent and the timbre of his voice. Then with a lightness in his step he walked back out to the stacks to wait for Ianto to arrive where he couldn't help but whistle again as he looked at the spines of books to pass the time.

"The other Ianto probably adores you, but he's too afraid of his feelings to -- mrph!" And suddenly Ianto's being kissed. It was nothing like any of the kisses he's ever received from Jack, which was weird, since everything else about this Jack felt like his own Jack. Scent, taste, feel, but the style was all wrong. Even gentle kisses were well honed things. This felt .. new.

Ianto pulled away, bringing a hand up to rest against Jack's shoulder to keep Jack from following him with the kiss. "That was.. that.. yes, it was. I.. ah. Right. Right." He was at an utter loss as what to do next! Ianto rubbed at his lip, blinking several times as if that'd help him come up with an idea. So far, nothing yet.

"I'm .. not really certain that now's the time to shag," he said slowly. "First off, no lube. That's rather important. The second reason is that we're all in danger. You have to be a hero and save us all. After which I'd throw myself into your arms." Ohgod. Ianto tried to swallow the horrible smirk that blossomed over his cynical little face over that one.

When Ianto pulled away and started making excuses, the clone Jack sniffed aloofly and sat back. "Suit yourself, Ianto." He started to giggle at that. "Suit yourself." He waved a hand at Ianto to indicate the man's normal state of dress being a suit. That was too deliciously funny. He had to laugh and he clapped Ianto on the back probably a bit harder than he should have. He got up from the table completely and found his shirt.

"You know, the other Ianto is not nicer than you but he at least tells the truth." He threw his shirt on and buttoned it up slowly with his back half-turned to the other man. "If you were really going to fool me you would not treat me as if I am not smart just because I want a coffee and a shag. I am Jack just as Jack is Jack. We are the same except I have no need to save anyone in here. Least of all you. You spiteful little lying meanie."

He was on his guard now. Very obviously crestfallen that he had to turn off the happy-go-lucky and be more what he had been created to be. It had been so much fun to be happy. Ianto had ruined it. He was bordering on throwing a tantrum now even if he did love Ianto with all his heart.

The backslap jostled him forward uncomfortably, but he managed to keep his seat on the table. Only just, though. The pun was an amusing one, if puns amused you. Ianto curled his fingers round the edge of the table to keep himself from getting up and going to Jack, to button up his shirt and put him to rights. Instead, he simply watched.

When he was called a liar, Ianto nodded. It was true enough and he could admit to it, at least. And he did feel bad that he had hurt this Jack. It was a sort of knee jerk thing with Jacks. When Jack had finished with his shirt, Ianto slid from the table and reached for Jack's coat, shaking it out and holding it open for him, to slide his arms into. "It was never out of spite." Fingertips flicked along the shoulders, tugged on the collar, making certain it was straight.

The not quite Jack felt very serious now. Unhappily serious. The fun was spoiled and was now going to go with the mission protocols. That was all there was to it because Ianto had made his decision clear. Nobody but the other Jack would be his Jack even if this Jack loved him as much as the other Jack. No he would not budge so almost Jack was getting with the program.

He allowed Ianto to hold out his coat for him and slid his arms in just as he remembered doing so many times before. He allowed Ianto to manipulate the lines so that it all fell just so. All the while he watched Ianto with dark, serious eyes. His mouth wasn't frowning because that would make wrinkles and he did not want those. It was held in a grim line giving him the appearance of buckling down and going into hero mode. He would be a hero in the end. He knew that.

"Doesn't matter anymore, Ianto. I think we can put this behind us and get down to the business at hand. What's happening out there?" He shrugged his shoulders and lightened his mood just a smidge so that he only looked determined but not the unhappy that he really was deep down inside. He was a rejected man; a spurned lover and hell hath no fury...

Part of Ianto felt just as unhappy as the almost Jack did, though for very different reasons. If the watchers of this place wanted to get to him, this was the best way. A hand pat gently at the almost Jack's face, briefly and almost affectionately, before Ianto stepped away and began to straighten and neaten himself up.

"What's going on out there is that there's doubles of people running about, causing mayhem in general. I think they're trying to replace people, to cause as much havock as possible. I'm sorry. I really am. You don't seem nearly as malicious as I've heard some of the others can be. But you understand why I can't trust you, do you?" Ianto jerked his tie straight, smoothing out the silk, then offered the almost Jack a small, sad smile. "Be a hero, Captain. Prove me wrong."

Ianto began to pick his way around furniture and piles of books and rubbish, making his way towards the door. God, he needed a scotch.

Not Jack flinched a little when Ianto touched his face. He was in a downright ornery mood now that he had to put away the happiness. If Ianto would not love him then he did not want Ianto to even look at him but that was not practical at all. Not for the plan at hand at least. So he would suck it up and walk it off like a man. Which is what he was! A wonderful and strong man who could not die. Ever. That thought cheered him up a little and the corners of his mouth tugged up just a little.

"I understand that you have to do what you have to do to protect the team, Ianto. Good man." Almost Jack nodded once as though he believed what he was saying. He didn't but Ianto didn't have to know that. He was going to find a way to be happy again as soon as Ianto was gone. In fact, he almost wanted to reach out and throttle Ianto but he would keep his hands clean right now.

"Let's get out there and see what we can do to stop some of this chaos from spreading. The first thing we should do is eliminate that other you because he is trying to integrate."

At that moment it was more than fine that Not Jack was throwing another clone under the bus. Both Iantos were mean little men who didn't like him. Maybe there was a way to get rid of both of them! Oh he was happy again just like that!

If Ianto knew that this Jack was grinning away because he was thinking of the ways he could rid the world of Ianto Jones, he would probably be a bit more worried than he was now. As it was, he nodded a bit, distracted, as he stepped out into the open air and squinted round at the immediate environs.

Then paused. "Wait, eliminate? You mean like ... murder? I know he's my double, but he hasn't actually done anything except stir up a bit of trouble. You can't just .. kill him in cold blood." The very idea horrified Ianto to the depths of his being. It'd be a different story if his double was actively trying to kill people, but the fact was that he wasn't. "Contain him. Mark him somehow so people know he's a double, but not kill!"

Ianto stood, hands on his hips in a classic Mister Jones pose. "I know you're trying to be Jack. But that right there is a dead giveaway that you're not. Jack Harkness would never kill something without just cause. Even then, killing would be the absolute last resort. Eliminate. Honestly." Scolding from the teaboy. Lovely.

"Oh, Ianto." The not Jack's shoulders slumped a little out of annoyance. "The other you is not going to go down without a fight. I just skipped the middle and went to eliminate because he is a threat. Don't have to kill a threat to eliminate it." He sighed and shook his head sadly at Ianto before realizing he had slipped a little and pushed it all back in. He stood up straight and took a deep breath.

"Look, I don't want to kill anyone." Liar, you're a liar! Pants on fire! "I just want to make sure that you and Jack can be together safely. He is planning on killing you so that he can take over as you with Jack. Since I love you and myself (my other self?) I cannot allow the other Ianto to continue what he's doing. Trying to integrate. Won't kill him unless I have to!"

He looked at Ianto with as serious a smile as he could manage considering the circumstances and all of the wonderful ways he was thinking of ridding the world of both Iantos soon. "You're stern when you're handsome." Was that affection in his voice? There was this inexplicable draw between him and Ianto even now. It made him mad and he didn't want it. So it had better get lost quick.

He loved Ianto and Jack? Somehow, Ianto wasn't terribly convinced of this. In fact, it was downright creepy. "Right. Just .. no death. Of no one. Not of the clones, not of people. Alright?" He was hoping that this Jack would agree to it, since Jack seemed so .. agreeable, but who knew.

Ianto stepped out, pausing in the shade of the library, and tried to think of where to go next. Possibly back to the museum. His head was aching like fury from caffeine withdrawal. "Alright, this is what I think. I think we'll get a lot more done if we split up. We can cover more ground that way."

"Of course, no death, Ianto. I think you're taking it a little too seriously that I said eliminate." The almost Jack shook his head and smiled patiently. Well maybe it was a little impatiently. He wanted some action. He wanted to go play Find Jack! or Kill Ianto!

"Split up?" He pursed his lips and looked upward like he was thinking hard about that one. "Do you really think you're safe with the enterprising Ianto look-alike out there waiting to take your place?"

Yes, Ianto, run away and go play house with big fat Jackie-Jack. That's what you want anyway! The not Jack could find him later and carry out his plan then. It wasn't a big deal to him if he had to play Find Ianto! That might even be as much fun as Find Jack! It made him happy inside so much so that he almost giggled. Fiendishly nasty ideas were flooding his mind. He had his pick of so many painful and horrible things that he could do to this mean little man and the other one too!

"You're probably right though. You're probably safe alone out there away from me." He all but pouted for affect.

Safer than if I stayed with you, he thought to himself, but didn't voice it aloud. He didn't need to give this being any more reason to want to off him. "I don't think any of us is really safe, with or without the look alikes. We'll just have to stay on our toes. Stay safe, alright?"

Ianto hesitated before dashing off, staring hard at this Jack, eyes narrowed to slits while he thought. After a moment, he shook his head. "Just .. I'm sorry. I really am. None of it's fair, to you or to the rest of us. I'm going, now."

"Oh don't worry about it, Ianto. You know I'm invincible!" Too little too late, numbskull! He wasn't fooled by Ianto because Ianto didn't even like him enough to shag him. Why would he care if not Jack was safe? Did not compute.

The almost Jack was very glad that Ianto had no clue he was just brimming with excitement over the prospect of killing him AND the other Ianto now. He knew very well that he couldn't get rid of the other Jack but they could be friends! That would be the best part of having no Iantos around to interfere. So it was very good that Ianto couldn't have the slightest inkling of what his plans really were.

Not Jack stared back at Ianto with a curiously amused look on his face because Ianto really was giving him the weirdest look back. "You be safe, Ianto. Don't give it another thought." With that he wandered off in his own direction to play one game or another.
