L didn't find it strange that Domeki simply dropped the argument with him. He tended to exude an aura of confidence when he was in his element, and people tended to automatically assume that he was right when he behaved with the self-assurance he was displaying now. Like Domeki, his attention remained centered on their current, common predicament.
"I speak Japanese," L said, tilting his head, wondering how he could have missed it if Domeki had indeed been speaking something he was so familiar with. Maybe he'd been comprehending without even realizing that the languages had switched over... though, if the blond caucasian girl who professed to have no knowledge of Japanese could understand him too, there were clearly other forces at work. "I speak a lot of languages. But... I think I would have noticed, if we really were communicating differently." he sorted his thoughts in French, German, English, Russian, and Japanese, and he switched over to Arabic for the next several sentences, as an experiment of sorts.
"I agree... we should probably find out what's near here, and if there are other people around," he said in Arabic. Noticing Sarah's sudden deep breath, he turned his attention to her, slipping back to English. "Um... are you... OK?"
