Where: He dares enter the museum
When: Mid-day, day eight
Rating: PG?

Status: Complete

So, was it normal to feel like you ought to be doing something important. Something really important. Something important like breathing. Important like blinking. Dean.2 was having a hard time with this inner drive to go do something and it made him restless. He'd started off in the big house outside of town where he'd compulsively collected some of the cans, using his jacket like a sack. He knew he should hate to be seen in the pink sweatshirt; but, he kind of enjoyed it.

It hadn't been too long a walk from the house to the museum where he knew he'd find a whole ton of people. It was like the place had turned into Mecca or something.

Pushing open the door Dean.2 looked around with a wide grin. "Honey, I'm home!" he called, hoping he'd see people come out of the woodwork sooner or later, he was feeling sort of lonely. "Oh, and I've got some eats."

The sound of Dean's voice caught Shannon's ears and after the freakish encounter with the Doctor and the awkward morning and night before with Sam, she was more than happy to hear Dean's voice. Someone familiar. Someone safe. Someone who wouldn't creep her out for kicks or look at her like she wasn't even there.

"Dean?" she called out, just to be sure, as she opened the gallery-turned-bedroom door and peeked around the corner. Seeing him there at the end of the hallway out in the main room, Shannon's breath caught and she made her way out of the room, all but jumping on him as she threw her arms around him. "Jesus, am I glad to see you."

Shannon, score!

not!Dean grinned when he saw Shannon poke her head out from the end of the hallway that same grin widening as she gave him a giant hug. So what if real him was put off by her, those silly things she did to the other him weren't done to him

"I brought some food," he said one arm lifting with the improvised bag of cans. "Beans. Lots of beans."

"What's got you all touchy feely?"

Stepping back, Shannon tucked her hair behind her ears and shifted her weight from one foot to the other. I missed you... she thought but didn't say, knowing better than to do so. They'd raised their white flags and she didn't want to ruin it.

"Like I said...rough day yesterday. I'm just glad to see you," she replied and it was mostly the truth. There was more to it she didn't plan on sharing, but the basic idea was there. "Sweet, beats the hell out of SlimFast bars. I swear to God, when we get out of here, I'll never touch another one again," she said with a small, impish smile.

Sam opened the museum door and slipped inside. Now that there were so many people staying, it was getting harder and harder to blockade the door. He moved the desk back in habit, figuring if anyone did come he'd be the one to move it again. When he finally looked up he was surprised to see Dean there...in a pink sweatshirt. His mouth twitched up into a smile smile. "Dean, hey," he said, finding himself relieved to see his brother. He looked at Shannon and caught her smile also. Had they stopped fighting?

"What's in the jacket?" Sam asked, looking down at the make-shift sack. He raised his eyebrows. "Are you bringing them into town already?"

"Oh, well, I'll take it as a compliment," he said with a shrug, feeling strangely awkward when her arms had been around him. Must have been residual emotion from him, oh well, no time like the present to get over that.

The door to the museum swung open behind him and not-Dean looked over his shoulder. "I come bearing beans," he said dryly, holding up his stash. "Well, I left most of it behind; but I thought we could make some plans over lunch, Sammy."

Bending over he set down the stash, five cans total. There had been plenty more in the house and he didn't have any intention of opening them all - he just wanted to make sure Sam had what he needed.

"So, who's in for beans?"

Shannon's eyes flickered over to Sam upon hearing his voice and a brand new wave of guilt washed over her when he looked and sounded relieved to see Dean. Shannon looked back at Dean then. She felt badly because she'd known just as well as Dean had - even if he'd lied about it; badly - that she'd been the reason he'd left in the first place.

But, in any case, Dean seemed to be okay and in a good mood and she was hungry after only having been able to stomach one breakfast bar in the morning, so she tried to push those thoughts away. He was here now which was all that mattered.

"Plans?" she asked, looking over at Sam again, furrowing her brow just slightly in confusion. So many secrets and for the first time, she felt out of the loop.

Sam looked at the cans as Dean pulled them out and then back at Dean, wondering if that was a good idea. They were supposed to be rationing them for everyone, not helping themselves. He looked over at Shannon and thought she could probably use a meal of substance. He sighed.

"Alright, ration one," he said, figuring he could give one up in the future to keep things fair. "Did you find a can opener?"

He turned to Shannon. "Dean found a pantry full of canned goods at the house. We're going to ration them out to everyone in order to be fair. Probably from the church, so that Andy can keep an eye on them."

"Yeah, one ought to be good," He looked at the cans, realizing that maybe he went a little overkill on the snatchery. He could have only taken two. Still, he just wanted to make sure Sammy had enough. Sure, he felt a certain bit of obligation to everyone else; but, his primary loyalty was to Sam.

Dean winced. "Fuck," he couldn't believe he had neglected that simple necessity. "I wasn't thinking. I was just..." Dean stopped himself. He knew the real him wouldn't go and get all sappy about wanting to be helpful or wanting to be protective. It was in this moment that the Clone really realized he was not Dean. He was better then Dean; but, he wasn't him. "...in a hurry," he finished, looking neglectedly at the cans.

"Andy?" Shannon asked, wrinkling her nose and furrowing her brow. "The guy with the bum leg? That doesn't even make any sense," she pointed out. Why would they give it to a guy who couldn't even walk? How the hell was that supposed to help if they wanted to make sure it was rationed and nobody was going to try to take more than their share at any given time.

Her eyes moved back to Dean when Sam asked for the can opener and Dean swore. Shannon looked down again. So much for lunch consisting of anything other than yet another SlimFast bar...

Sam frowned slightly when Shannon said that putting Andy in charge didn't make any sense. "He's stuck at the church," Sam said quickly, feeling defensive of his friend. "So he's not going anywhere and can keep an eye on them." Not to mention that Andy had a certain talent for talking people out of doing things that might not be beneficial to the whole. Not that Sam was sure letting Andy use his powers was a good idea. He looked at Shannon and shrugged. "We thought it would be a good way for him to help out, even with his injury."

Sam shot Dean a suprised look at his reaction to not having a can opener, his expression softening at his brother beating himself up. "Hey, it's fine," Sam said, giving him a smile and fighting the urge to reach out and clap him on the shoulder. "We'll figure something out. I've got that knife I was telling you about. Pretty sure we can use that."

He started looking around the room then moved over to the corner and picked up a heavy rock sculpture. He pulled out the knife and positioned it over the can, handing the sculpture to Dean so he could bring it down on the hilt to pierce the can. Sam tried not to look worried that Dean wouldn't miss his fingers holding up the knife as he brought the weight of the sculpture down, though after the prank the other day, he wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

Yeah, he thought, the guy with the bum leg.

Could-Be-Dean had to resist the urge to rub his forehead at his obvious faux pas. He just wanted things to be, well, perfect. Or, at least, as perfect as they could be in this fucked up situation. He had people to take care of and things to do to make him feel useful; it seemed like a pretty not-so-bad situation to him. Really, it wasn't so bad, was it? Instead he shrugged. He knew he would never admit to being off his game; so right now not!Dean wouldn't either.

"At least one of us is thinking..." the clone muttered, taking up the sculpture as Sam handed it off, sort of surprised by it's weight.

With care he positioned the sculpture and was pretty ready to let it drop. He thought a moment - would the other him screw this up? Well, he supposed that was the difference between him and the other him -- he wasn't going to do anything to Sam, even if the guy had put shit in the other him's hand.

Letting the Statue fall onto the knife with a satisfying pop the can was breached. "Houston, we have beans."

Arching a dubious eyebrow, Shannon looked back at Sam. "I'm all for currently useless people feeling useful - believe me, I'm like the queen of useless - but...seriously, can't you give him something less important? I mean, if somebody wants to steal more than their rationed share, what's he gonna do? Beat 'em with his crutches?" She wasn't trying to be mean and she hoped that the expression that fell over her face just then - a mix of sympathy and trepidation - expressed that. It wasn't like she wanted to make fun of the guy at all, it was just...that didn't make any sense to her and food was important. Too important, she thought, to leave in the care of a gimp.

Shannon chewed her bottom lip as Sam gave Dean a sculpture and held the knife over the can. If Dean missed the knife, that was gonna hurt like a fucking bitch...and she wouldn't even be able to fawn all over him because Dean was right there. ...well, and she wouldn't know what to do to help him, but that was beside the point. When Dean lifted the sculpture, Shannon purposefully looked away, just in case, because if he missed, Shannon didn't want to see it.

But there was a thump and a pop and then Dean announced that the can was opened. Although, when she looked back, it wasn't actually open, per se...just pierced. Shannon said nothing and just looked down at her hands, deciding to let the boys deal with it; it wasn't like she'd be helpful, anyway. All the Dharma food had been in bags or jars and the few things in cans had had pop-tops. She was out of her element on this one.

"Well, hopefully no one's going to steal more than their rationed share," Sam said, even though he knew the possibility of no one having any complaints at how the food would be handeled would be nil to none. "But don't underestimate Andy, if they do try he'll be able to handle them." He gave Shannon a smile and hoped she wouldn't press on further. "Besides, he's not going to be off his leg forever."

Sam let out a sigh of relief as his fingers escaped unsmashed by the rock sculpture. The knife pierced the can and Sam pulled it out and repositioned it on the can in order to make the opening wider. "I think maybe one more hit will do it," he said, looking up at Dean.

Their conversation from earlier over the journals suddenly came to mind and Sam frowned. "Did you find what had stolen your food?"

The clone was mute on the subject of Andy. He didn't quite know what to think of that guy. He didn't know if he was supposed to trust him or not. When it came down to it, though, if Sam trusted him he would, too.

"Can you believe Doc Lex stitching him up with Dental floss? Dental floss?! I mean, minty freshness, or what?" He said this as he pulled up the statue again, watching as Sam carefully repositioned can and knife.

Perhaps he was being a bit too happy. That had to be it. Was it so wrong to be in a room with a hot chick and your brother? Seriously, what was wrong with that? Well, given that they were up to their knees in crap the Clone decided that he ought to tone down the chipper just a bit. Sighing he shook his head, remembering the feeling of waking up with his food long gone.

"No. Not even any readable tracks in the snow." Dean set down the statue again, the knife grinding against the aluminum with a strange metallic scrape. "Probably just this place fucking with me. You'd think the whole expired stamp would mean they were through with me."

Rather than continue to argue her case, Shannon cocked her eyebrows once and looked away. If Sam thought that the guy with the bum leg was a good watch dog for something as important as food, she probably wasn't going to be able to persuade him otherwise. Especially if Andy was his friend. Pointless to try; it wasn't like Shannon had any pull, anyway really. Not in this place and not anywhere. Better to look pretty and keep her mouth shut, she supposed.

Her eyes moved to Dean when he mentioned that the doctor had stitched Andy up with dental floss and she cringed slightly. She had to wonder if that would be as sharp on the skin of someone's leg as it was on her gums when she used it. "Gross..." she murmured more to herself than to either of the brothers. The thought made her shudder slightly as she watched Dean bring the statue down again on the hilt of the knife.

Dean mentioned the expired stamp and she frowned. The idea of that still creeped her out because they still didn't know what it was supposed to mean. "Maybe you just miscounted your inventory then?" she suggested, raising her eyebrows slightly. If there were no tracks in the snow, how was it possible for anyone to take anything? Even if it was the people who ran the show here, people left tracks.

Sam didn't miss the look Shannon gave him, but was relieved when she didn't press for any more explanation. He shook his head as Dean commented on the dental floss, a small smile playing across his lips at his brother's incredulous tone. "I know, but it's pretty smart too. Probably more sterile than a piece of thread, at least."

Sam also frowned at the mention of the mysterious tattoo. He'd been worried about the meaning of it from the moment Dean had shown him. "Yeah, but the snow was coming down pretty hard, maybe the tracks got covered." He looked up at Dean. "I don't know, but you having the knife out there with you will make me feel better."

The knife made a clean cut through the lid, intersecting with the other. Sam used the hilt of the knife to force the "v" back and then sniffed it tentatively. He didn't think beans would ever smell as good as they did right then. They didn't exactly have any eating utensils, and after a moment he lifted the can up to his mouth and took a drink, chewing slowly.

He looked at Shannon and Dean thoughtfully for a moment before swallowing. "I think it's okay," he said with a small shrug. To be honest, he was so hungry there wasn't much that wouldn't have been okay. He held the can out to Shannon.

Not Dean caught the tail end of Sam's frown and it made him wish he'd not said anything at all about it. He didn't want to make him uncomfortable - it was a joke! "I don't want the knife, Sammy," the clone responded in a tone that indicated no further discussion of the subject was necessary. "It's kind of hard to miscount to two," his tone was light as he responded to Shannon. Even he could count to two.

Sam kicked back the can nearly as soon as he'd managed to open it. The clone was satisfied then that he'd done his good deed for the day - he'd taken care of Sam. Good shit. He was pretty good at this big brother stuff after all. The can was passed to Shannon and again the clone felt useful. He'd done something nice for Shannon - who deserved something nice for a change. Clone 2 : Original 0. This score was getting better and better.

Clone Dean could smell the beans from where he was standing and his stomach was grumbling with hunger. That was different.

"Oh," Shannon replied sheepishly. Well, how was she supposed to know there was only two cans? It wasn't like she'd been there. Her eyes were downcast again and she remained quiet. If anyone who'd known her in the real world - especially Sabrina - could see her now, they'd be gaping. Shannon wasn't the type to keep her mouth shut, but now she felt stupid and being around the two brothers at the same time was awkward enough as it was, but adding the fact that she felt kind of like an idiot on top of it wasn't exactly appealing. She thought it was probably better just to shut up.

The sound of Sam prying the top off the can caught her attention and she looked up again, though, in time to see him sniff at it before - ew, oh my God; seriously?! - drinking the beans. Could this place be any more crude and disgusting? At least on the Island they'd hollowed out fruits and made makeshift bowls out of what random things they could find and clean out from the wreckage. This was ridiculous.

She tried, however, very hard not to grimace and even took the can from Sam. "Can't believe we actually have to do this," managed to slip out of her mouth before she could stop it and then she, too, literally drank beans straight from the can. She had to admit, at least, as she handed the can to Dean and chewed that it was kind of awesome to have something of actual sustenance that didn't contain ridiculous amounts of sugar.

Sam looked up at Dean, confusion playing across his features. He recognized the tone, but that didn't mean he had to give into it. "Dean, you're going to need it if you're out there all by yourself. I'll find another weapon." He placed the knife on the ground between them and slid it over to this brother. "Take it."

Sam gave Shannon an amused smile when she said she couldn't believe they had to do this. Something told him he was used to things a lot better and finer than a can of beans. "Yummy, huh?" he asked, giving her a jokey grin.

He looked over at Dean. "There might be eating utensils somewhere. I know that one place had a household goods section, but I didn't think to look."

Can in hand he kicked it back and had a swill. The beans and whatever it was they were in were delicious. Probably the most delicious thing the clone had ever tasted. Well, they were the only thing the clone had ever tasted. Though, he was pretty sure if he thought hard enough he could remember the taste of bacon cheeseburgers. Yeah. Damn right.

"Ah, who needs utensil's Sammy when we're eating cold beans?" the clone grinned, passing the can back to Sam. He'd had his fill.

Looking to the knife on the ground he rolled his eyes, ignoring it. He was going to be stubborn now. He wanted Sammy to have the weapon and Sam would have the weapon. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

"Hey, have either of you seen Doc about, by the way?" the Clone was starting to think it might be best for him to go - this kind of happiness couldn't go on forever, the experiences of the other him taught him that. He'd rather have them all go out on a high note.

Rolling her eyes playfully at Sam, Shannon raised her eyebrows and gave a half nod. "Oh yeah, fucking exquisite," she teased. "Although, honestly, in this place, it is kind of a delicacy, isn't it...?" she asked pensively. Then she looked over at Dean and gave him a small smile, untucking her hair from behind her ears to cover up the fact that she was blushing slightly. "Thank you."

She watched as Dean passed the can back to Sam and then ignored the knife on the floor. Just having it out in plain sight was uncomfortable. "He's not gonna take it," she muttered to Sam. "Can you just...like, put it away? Please?" she asked. It was bad enough when they were using it to get the can open, but having it just sit there...it just freaked her out. She wasn't sure why, but she thought maybe because she'd chosen to forget that Sam had the knife to begin with, never mind the fact that knives made her think of John Locke.

"I had breakfast with him this morning," she said, looking back at Dean and re-tucking her hair. "But...I haven't seen him since. He said he was gonna go walk around the wall or something, I can't remember. I was so out of it; I'd just woken up," she admitted sheepishly.

Sam grinned at Dean and shook his head slightly even though he knew Dean was right. Food was food and he didn't think anyone was going to complain too much about not having proper utensils when it came down to it. He took the offered can and took another drink. Ordinarily cold beans wouldn't exactly be considered a delicacy, but like Shannon said it was in this place.

He lowered the can and looked at Shannon when she spoke. He sighed, shooting Dean a look that clearly said he thought he was being stupid and stubborn, but he picked up the knife and slipped it out of sight.

He handed Shannon the can again and looked over at Dean. "Did you want to ask him his opinion on the supplies?" Sam asked, raising his eyebrows. He thought the church was their best bet, especially since Andy could protect the goods if he needed to, but he was open to other suggestions. Especially if it meant not having to out Andy's powers.

The clone caught Shannon's half smile and Sam's head shake and he couldn't help but think that for a few brief, shining moments all was right with the world. Maybe it was. He was doing what he felt he ought to be doing. He was doing things that the other him hadn't managed to do. God damn, he was doing pretty damned good.

As the knife was taken up and slipped away there was a flash of a smug grin that passed over his features and blended away just as quickly.

"That's what I was hoping, anyway," or at least he thought that Doc would be a good enough reason to let this daydream end on an up note. Sticking his hands in his pockets he looked toward the door. "I'm going to go see what I can do about finding Doc," he volunteered, trying his best to put up a look of aloofness. It didn't stick, so, he just kind of smiled a little instead.

Shannon relaxed visibly when the knife was out of sight once again and she took the can of beans from Sam, her eyes on dean as he looked toward the door and announced that he was going to try to find the Doctor.

Pausing with the can just below her mouth, Shannon's smile faded slightly at the idea of Dean going, but she supposed it was too much to ask for him to stay when he'd already surprised her by showing up and remaining on good terms with her, even going so far as to share with her when he really probably only had to share with Sam, if either of them at all. She looked back at him and returned the small smile. "Thanks again, Dean," she said, nodding down at the can. She wasn't going to try to make him stay; she might not know Dean very well, but she knew him well enough to know that it would be a wasted effort. "Be careful," she added.

Sam frowned slightly when Dean looked towards the door, frustrated with his brother's inability to stand still. For a minute it had almost felt like everything had been okay between them. He opened his mouth to offer to go with him, but the look on Dean's face seemed to say he wanted to be alone, then melted into a smile that Sam took as an apology.

He sighed. "I'll talk to Andy as soon as I can," Sam said, trying not to let his disappointment leak through his voice. "Then we can start moving them to the church." He was glad that Shannon told him to be careful, he hoped maybe he'd be more willing to listen if it came from her.

"You should come by more often," Sam said, shooting Shannon a sideways glance. "I miss seeing your ugly mug."

The Clone's grin was cocky as it went flying in Shannon's direction. "Always am," he shrugged it off. He thought it was pretty nice of her to say that after everything; though, something told him she wouldn't buy it if he said so.

Not!Dean was already to the door as Sam was saying he was going to talk to Andy; he wasn't sure if that coming by more often was really meant for him. Was it? Hot damn, he was better than the original, wasn't he?

"Enjoy the beans," he called over his shoulder, pushing out the door. He had to keep moving, he didn't want to do something stupid like run into himself.
