Day Seven - Early Morning
Who: Shannon Rutherford & Shizuka Domeki
What: Early morning practice
When: Asscrack of dawn
Where: Initially the museum, then the carnival probably
Rating: PG- something or other (but probably no more than 13)
Status: Complete

The snow already beginning to press against the door of the thrift shop made it a bit difficult to leave and the snow already beginning to accumulate on the streets and walks of the town made the trek to the museum something slow and labored. Domeki, figuring that it would take him a while to make the hike across town, had chosen to leave before it had even begun to get light outside and it proved to be a wise choice - aside from the fact that he found himself already chilled nearly to the bone by the time he paused before the large door leading into the museum.

Domeki flexed the bare and numb fingers of his hands as he debated whether or not to knock. He knew that knocking was, essentially, the only way he could let Shannon know that he had arrived but there was an equal chance that he might awaken one of the gentlemen currently staying with her - and then he might have to explain what he wanted with his big sister at this hour and also why he was currently carrying a bow.

After a moment of silent debate, he finally raised his hand and rapped his numb knuckles against the wood of the door. He could only hope that, should Shannon not be the one to answer, whoever did liked early morning knock knock jokes.

With a nod, Shannon let herself step out of proper positioning again as well as letting her grip on the bow and the arrow go slack. "Okay, how about you shoot the arrow with me...then let me try it by myself...and then we call it a day for now?" she asked, shivering and teeth chattering against her will. "Because I'm freezing my butt off right now," she finally admitted a little more than grudgingly.

At that, Shannon put herself back into the proper stance and brought up the bow, positioning the arrow. She waited, then, for Domeki to come up behind her again and help her shoot the arrow so that she could get the feel of how to do so the right way before she ended up doing something stupid that would break something or shoot at the wrong thing because she didn't know what she was doing.

"That sounds like a good idea," Domeki agreed readily. There was just the briefest moment of guilt for forcing Shannon to practice in such an unpleasant environment but it dispelled easily enough when he remembered that there really wasn't any to help what was essentially beyond anyone's control. "It should only be a few more minutes and then you can go back to the warmth of the museum."

Again, he watched her as she took stance and he again nodded his approval - if nothing else, she seemed to have that much down pat. Once he was sure that she was secure in her stance, he moved up behind her and he reached to position his hands over her own - both the one on the bow and the one holding the arrow. Gently but firmly, he drew back their hands until her thumb was against her jawbone. "Remember that the best way to pull back the string is to use the muscles of your shoulders and back," he murmured quietly as he made a small adjustment to her aim. "Now, take and hold a breath - then release the breath and the arrow at the same time."
