Day Seven - Early Morning
Who: Shannon Rutherford & Shizuka Domeki
What: Early morning practice
When: Asscrack of dawn
Where: Initially the museum, then the carnival probably
Rating: PG- something or other (but probably no more than 13)
Status: Complete

The snow already beginning to press against the door of the thrift shop made it a bit difficult to leave and the snow already beginning to accumulate on the streets and walks of the town made the trek to the museum something slow and labored. Domeki, figuring that it would take him a while to make the hike across town, had chosen to leave before it had even begun to get light outside and it proved to be a wise choice - aside from the fact that he found himself already chilled nearly to the bone by the time he paused before the large door leading into the museum.

Domeki flexed the bare and numb fingers of his hands as he debated whether or not to knock. He knew that knocking was, essentially, the only way he could let Shannon know that he had arrived but there was an equal chance that he might awaken one of the gentlemen currently staying with her - and then he might have to explain what he wanted with his big sister at this hour and also why he was currently carrying a bow.

After a moment of silent debate, he finally raised his hand and rapped his numb knuckles against the wood of the door. He could only hope that, should Shannon not be the one to answer, whoever did liked early morning knock knock jokes.

Laughing, Shannon gave into the urge to give him a playful poke in the side. "Smart ass," she joked when she looked up and saw the amusement hiding behind his eyes, betraying the hurt expression he was trying to pass off on her. "I don't think they do anything by accident," she replied, resting her head against his again as they drew nearer to the carnival. "They made sure we could all understand each other, I think, because otherwise they'd have had to take all people with the same native language. That's no good if they're doing social experiments; we're the constants. Having a language variable would fuck up the actual experiments. You can only have one variable or it throws off the whole thing. I might be kinda dumb, but I do remember that much about science class," she replied with a grim smile and a shrug.

When Domeki agreed that Los Angeles sounded nice, Shannon nodded to herself against him and closed her eyes. She'd never be able to go back there again; she'd never get to experience how much she'd loved it there, for simple fear of at some point running into Sabrina and having to explain why she was alive...and Boone was not. "You'd like it," she said. "It's funny to me that someone would want to see the States, but then I'm from the States, so they're not all that interesting to me. If you get a chance, hit up New York City; I hear it's really nice. I almost went once..." she said, her voice trailing off slightly. It hadn't really worked out the way she'd have liked. "Tell you what..." she said thoughtfully. "You show me Japan and I'll show you LA. But I'd only go back for you," she added.

With a smirk, Shannon rolled her eyes. "Not the end of the world, but it does hurt like a bitch," she replied honestly. "I think that's why the whole bullshit about girls being so freaked about breaking a nail. Guys don't grow their nails out most of the time so they don't know any better...but that shit hurts and I'm not kidding," she laughed.

They'd come up on the carnival then and she looked back at Domeki again as he said that it wasn't a frequent occurance that people cut themselves on bowstrings. That made her feel better. "Okay, what do you think...should you teach me to shoot moldy teddy bears or moldy stuffed dogs?" she joked, looking over at the game ahead of them and the snow-covered prizes on display behind it.

"I think you're right," Domeki agreed with a slight sigh. He had struggled with himself in order to not give into a sense of paranoia that every single event, every single happening, every single item was all carefully staged and planned by whoever had brought them here - but there was only so long that you could blind yourself to the logic that was directly in front of you. Even if there was nothing he could do for the less pleasant parts of being stuck in this cage, he could at least be glad that he was able to communicate well with the other captives. "Even so, I almost wish that there were a way to throw off their variables and to ruin their little study. I know that it's probably just the futile wish of those who have no power but it'd be nice to think that there was something we could do to make things a bit more difficult for them." He paused to laugh and shook his head. "I suppose I should wish for a pony and world peace while I'm at it, hm?"

"I'd be honored for you to show me your LA - and that you would be willing to go back there especially for me. Perhaps, when the time comes, you can take me to New York City, as well? I have the feeling that it isn't a place for a little brother to go alone," he joked lightly and offered her a slight grin. Even if it was just playing at a fantasy, he found that it was actually rather nice to think of a future time when they would not be trapped within this glass cage. "I'd be glad to show you Japan - Tokyo, where I am from, and anywhere else you'd like."

"Oh, I believe you that it hurts," Domeki nodded gravely. "It makes me feel fortunate that I was born male and so I might never have to know the deep pain of breaking a nail." He broke into a slight grin. "Though, honestly, I do believe you that it must hurt. I can't imagine a woman carrying on about it otherwise."

Domeki took a long moment to study both the stuffed teddy bears and the stuffed dogs - but he couldn't see a difference in size or in thickness that would make all that much difference. Shrugging slightly, he turned a light smirk to her. "It depends - do you like dogs or bears better?"
