Day Seven - Early Morning
Who: Shannon Rutherford & Shizuka Domeki
What: Early morning practice
When: Asscrack of dawn
Where: Initially the museum, then the carnival probably
Rating: PG- something or other (but probably no more than 13)
Status: Complete

The snow already beginning to press against the door of the thrift shop made it a bit difficult to leave and the snow already beginning to accumulate on the streets and walks of the town made the trek to the museum something slow and labored. Domeki, figuring that it would take him a while to make the hike across town, had chosen to leave before it had even begun to get light outside and it proved to be a wise choice - aside from the fact that he found himself already chilled nearly to the bone by the time he paused before the large door leading into the museum.

Domeki flexed the bare and numb fingers of his hands as he debated whether or not to knock. He knew that knocking was, essentially, the only way he could let Shannon know that he had arrived but there was an equal chance that he might awaken one of the gentlemen currently staying with her - and then he might have to explain what he wanted with his big sister at this hour and also why he was currently carrying a bow.

After a moment of silent debate, he finally raised his hand and rapped his numb knuckles against the wood of the door. He could only hope that, should Shannon not be the one to answer, whoever did liked early morning knock knock jokes.

With a playful roll of her eyes, Shannon shook her head and resisted the urge to give Domeki a shrug. "Don't get smart, stay the way you are," she joked. It was something she'd heard her childhood friends' mothers say all the time and never ceased to amuse her. She never thought she'd actually use the phrase, though. "Yeah, we could never be friends otherwise," she said, furrowing her brow at the very thought. "If we couldn't, you know, understand each other..."

It made Shannon feel special to know that Domeki felt she knew more about him than most of his classmates. Her smile faltered a little when she realized that really...she didn't know all that much of substance about him except that his parents were dead and he was an only child. Then again, it wasn't like he knew an awful lot about her, either. Just whatever had happened to come up in conversation. There's still lots of time, she thought to herself and relaxed again. "Oh! It never snowed in LA. Not while I was alive, anyway. It's gorgeous. I mean, yeah, it rains sometimes, but doesn't it everywhere? It's...I don't know. There's no place like it. I miss it..."

Domeki's remark got a patronizing look in response. "Oh you're hilarious," she joked, rolling her eyes and wrinkling her nose as she smirked. "Like I'd really break a nail; please." She winked. The latter comment, though, made her smile fade a little. "Does that happen a lot? Cuts from the bowstring?" she asked nervously. Shannon didn't like that idea, seeing as how she didn't exactly have any Band-Aids.

Nodding, Shannon gave him a sideways half-hug and went on forward. "Sounds like a plan. I'd offer to go, but..." her voice trailed off. But I don't want to, didn't seem like a very nice thing to say. "Just be careful," she advised.

"Are you calling your little brother dumb?" Domeki asked innocently. He took a brief moment to fix his features into a hurt expression but there was still a hint of amusement in the darkness of his eyes. Clearly, he was already getting the hang of a few of her native idioms. "I guess that's one thing they managed to get right," he mused quietly. The thought that the ones in charge were actually doing something to help them confused him and put him a bit on edge but he tried not to think to deeply on that. "I can't imagine all of us walking around, speaking a dozen different languages."

"That does sound really nice," Domeki smiled at her description of her hometown. He found that he liked listening to Shannon talk, whether it was about where she was from or any number of other topics. It was almost soothing to be able to talk of normal things instead of focusing entirely on the hopelessness of the current situation. "I think I'd like to see LA sometime - and maybe some other places in the United States. It just sounds so different from where I grew up."

"I would hate to see you break a nail. I imagine it would be the end of the world," he teased her lightly, even as he shook his head to her latter question. "I've only seen anyone get injured like that maybe once or twice and, even then, it was normally because the kid was fooling around instead of doing what he was supposed to; I think you'll be alright."

"Don't worry about it," Domeki reassured her with a slight shake of his head. It really hadn't even occurred to him to ask her to go in search of the glue - not when it would be just as easy for him to get it. "It'll be a good chance to restock on a few things while I'm there."
