Day Seven - Early Morning
Who: Shannon Rutherford & Shizuka Domeki
What: Early morning practice
When: Asscrack of dawn
Where: Initially the museum, then the carnival probably
Rating: PG- something or other (but probably no more than 13)
Status: Complete

The snow already beginning to press against the door of the thrift shop made it a bit difficult to leave and the snow already beginning to accumulate on the streets and walks of the town made the trek to the museum something slow and labored. Domeki, figuring that it would take him a while to make the hike across town, had chosen to leave before it had even begun to get light outside and it proved to be a wise choice - aside from the fact that he found himself already chilled nearly to the bone by the time he paused before the large door leading into the museum.

Domeki flexed the bare and numb fingers of his hands as he debated whether or not to knock. He knew that knocking was, essentially, the only way he could let Shannon know that he had arrived but there was an equal chance that he might awaken one of the gentlemen currently staying with her - and then he might have to explain what he wanted with his big sister at this hour and also why he was currently carrying a bow.

After a moment of silent debate, he finally raised his hand and rapped his numb knuckles against the wood of the door. He could only hope that, should Shannon not be the one to answer, whoever did liked early morning knock knock jokes.

Shannon smirked back at him. "I can't teach slang on demand, it just has to come out," she said with a shrug. "Then I can explain as I go." It was a strange idea to be teaching someone dirty words and phrases, but she thought possibly the only way she could pull it off was to do it just like that. Trying to come up with that sort of thing off the top of her head on demand would be too difficult and probably confusing. If, however, he didn't mind learning as they went, she thought she might just be one of the better teachers for such a subject. Shannon might be a pretty, formerly rich girl, but she could have a mouth like a sailor if the situation called for it and she knew it.

With a grateful smile, Shannon linked her arm with Domeki's offered one and nestled herself against him, her head against his. The closer she was to him, the warmer they'd be. With that thought in mind, she released her arm from his again, only to slip her arm around his waist beneath his leather jacket. "You already know me way to well to be healthy," she joked. As they walked she looked out ahead of her at the snow still coming down. "Honestly, me too, but that's not saying a whole lot, since I'm from LA..." she replied with a grin.

"Oh good, except for the part where I'm gonna be trying to shoot a bow and arrow when I'm more used to shaking martinis and filing my fingernails..." she joked feebly. The idea that she was about to learn to use an actual weapon would've been ridiculous for her to consider a few months ago. In fact, if someone had told her that she was going to find solace in the protection of a tall guy who admittedly wasn't in her league financially, an adorably nerdy man who claimed to travel through time and space, and a man her father's age who looked like he fell out of the war and said he couldn't die, she'd have laughed in their face. If they then said that she'd consider a short, Asian kid kind of like family and was not only willing but eager to learn to shoot a bow and arrow, she'd have told them they were insane. But there it was.

Domeki said that one of the arrows was broken and she frowned. "Maybe we can find some glue or something in the pharmacy? Like, nail glue, you know? It's pretty lightweight and it holds like KraZee Glue," she suggested. She hadn't really looked around the pharmacy a lot, but there was a few pharmacies back home that had cosmetics selections and usually, within that, fake nails, glue, polish, and files. Actually, the files might come in handy, too, if they were there. She'd have to check...when it wasn't so fucking cold outside.

"Then I guess I'll just have to hang on your every word so I can catch what comes naturally," Domeki joked lightly. It wasn't his intention to put Shannon on the spot about her language and he really was just as likely to let the subject slip away. After all, learning he nuances of another language always seemed to come more naturally when the teacher wasn't pressed or too aware of what she should or should not be saying - and he certainly didn't want Shannon to feel as if this were some job or other burden. "It does make me glad, though, that there is something about this place that offers translations - I can't imagine how we'd manage otherwise."

"The same could be said for you. You probably know more about me than most of my classmates." This thought didn't really bother Domeki, even if it could be taken as something sad. On reflection, he would admit that it was a touch odd that he'd become closer to someone who was a foreigner to just about everything in his life than he had with the majority of the children his own age - but it seemed almost natural to be walking with her like this, even if there was nothing all that natural about their current situation. He allowed a contented smile to touch his features as he moved his arm to wrap around her shoulders - well, as best as he could manage given their difference in height. "It sounds like you were pretty lucky to be in LA if it meant no weather like this."

"Hm, does that mean we'll have to call off the lessons if you break a nail?" He teased her with light good humor. Truth be told, he wasn't all that worried about Shannon not being able to learn - he was rather more worried that she would have reason to learn whatever she might pick up. Not that he waned her to be helpless and not that he was deluded enough to think that they were entirely safe - more, the overprotective part of himself dreaded the thought of anything happening to his big sister. "I hate to think what would happen if you got calluses or cuts from the bowstring, then."

"That might be a good idea," he nodded slightly to her idea of looking in the pharmacy for something to fix the broken arrow but he figured that they should be alright with just the two for now - as long as they were careful not to let anything happen to them. "I'll check in there later, once the weather calms down a bit."
