Day 7: On the road to the gas station
Who: Lexie Grey and Dean Winchester
What: Currently travelling from the Barn to the Gas Station
When: Day 7, Mid-Morning
Rating: PG-13 / R (Sexual situation)
Status: Complete

As much as Lexie really probably wanted to stay in the barn where it was warm and relatively safe after reading the journal's notes about the snow and the cold and the need to bunker down, she thought she had no other choice than to take a trip from her humble abode to the store for some supplies. In Boston people had loaded up on milk, toilet paper, and rock salt. Lexie had decided she'd be getting her hands on toilet paper, bottled water, and whatever food she could find. For better or for worse, Lexie had been only taking what she needed from the gas station up until now - suddenly the threat of inclement weather and a beastly trek made her reconsider how minimalist she could actually be.

Shoving her lighter in her pocket, Lexie left the rest of her things tucked carefully beneath the floorboards in the barn. She had seen that someone else had been through the barn the other day, and she wasn't so certain that she wanted them going through her humble possessions - even if all she had from the real world were some scrubs and an ID badge.

Pulling her sweatshirt tight about herself, she wondered why she hadn't gone looking for a hat and mittens days ago. Unfortunately, she'd let the cold and snow creep up on her and was left for a nice long walk with a sweatshirt, a heavy pair of construction boots, and jeans that felt they were meant more for summer wear than winter protection. Trudging down the path she squinted, the snow whipping into her eyes. She'd have quite a journey back if she took too long and the world got dark.

How far was it until the thrift shop? Suddenly she was wishing someone had annotated the map with those sort of notations - it would be useful if someone found themselves otherwise until to see the landmarks. She was really close to the pharmacy, looking about for anyone else. Though, at the moment from the best she could tell, everyone was holed up nice and snug in their respective shelters.

Way to be a poor planner, Lexie.

"Yes. That's you. Simply irresistible," he sang through a laugh. "You're especially sexy when you crinkle like a hobo." He gave her another little squeeze to prove his point as the newspaper rustled inside her clothes.

"Snowmen?" He leaned his head back slightly without pulling too far away from their warm huddle to give her an incredulous look. "What you talkin' 'bout, Willis?" he asked and then laughed again. "Snowgirls? Yes. Snowdoctors? Of course. Especially if they half rip my clothes off to get inside them with me."

Oh the full on flirt had been unleashed now. He was almost on auto-pilot at this point. It felt good because there didn't seem to be any reason to worry about whether or not someone else might be offended by it. It was just some playful banter between an admittedly very good looking guy and a very adorable and not entirely unwilling girl. Right? Just some fun while they waited for her to warm up enough to get where she wanted to go.

Probably a good thing he was still pretty damned cold otherwise this might begin to be a problem with all the body to body... Okay maybe it wasn't cold enough anymore. Um... baseball, dead demons, fireflies and dandelions, someone's grandma, uhhh pie.... he thought.

"Easy with the crinkles," she playfully jabbed at his side.

"Doctor Snow-Hobo-women fetish, that's a new one. I bet you can't even find internet porn for that one," the logistics were actually mindblowing. His laughter proved her undoing however as her own quickly followed suit. It was like being back home with her friend; well, friend. George had been her only real friend at Seattle Grace. He didn't call her Little Grey or Lexipedia, or give her dirty looks for being Meredith Grey's sister.

"I guess I should have went for the whole shabang then," she said, referring to his only half removed clothing. "I mean, since you go for cold, hobo-like doctors."

If Lexie had been able to, she would have cast herself as more oblivious as let the whole interaction between them be nothing more than flirty, witty banter. Instead, she was sort of caught off guard - platonic hug turning in to flirty hug. Well, there's no reason friends can't flirt, right? If Lexie were a hair warmer she might actually be blushing.

"Hey now!" he laughed as she jabbed him and squirmed. "That tickles." Then he set his cheek against the top of her head again.

"Doctor Snow-Hobo-women." He stopped and thought about that one for a second and then laughed again. They were all but slap-happy at the moment and he was enjoying himself thoroughly. It was a hell of a lot better wandering around by himself and moping that was for damn sure. "Nope, can't say I've ever had that fetish satisfied. Until now. You should really have gone all the way, Sno-bo Doc."

He sputtered slightly then as her hair got into his mouth while was laughing yet again. Letting one arm move from her waist he lifted it to brush her hair back with his fingers. "No offense, but I don't find it too appetizing." He grinned down at her and let his fingers fall away from her hair.

"Feeling any warmer?" he asked and there was a sparkle in his eye of mischief. "I mean the whole half-ripping off my clothes has worked pretty well so far. I still say this is the part of the movie where we strip down to our underwear for the body heat."

Tickling hadn't been exactly what she was going for. However, knowing that he was ticklish sent Lexie into this moment of being eight again where there was nothing funnier than watching somebody laugh and squirm while being subjected to being tickled. God, a tickle war, that could be dangerous.

"Damn, I've squandered my chance," she mock pouted. The look of disappointment didn't last long as her companion started sputtering. She felt his arm depart her back to her momentary disappointment, not quite expecting the gesture that followed.

Playful as she was, let it never be said that Lexie Grey was good at being anything other then an open book. Perhaps that's why the blush came so suddenly now across the apples of her cheeks. She knew he probably hadn't meant to get that sort of reaction out of her and now it was her turn to sputter a bit.

"Warmer?" She was sort of laughing at herself, realizing that the burning across her cheeks was not just the warm feeling of circulation returning to her skin. Get back on your game, Lexie! she internally scolded, no need to let him catch her with her pants down, figuratively speaking of course.

"You're just working toward your fantasy of doctor snow hobo-women in their underwear. This is bordering on obsession, you know." A no doubt cold hand snaked up the back of his shirt only to find that it was like an inferno under there. "What are you made out of, molten lava?"

Dean's sides protested as he laughed even more. He almost wondered if they were pumping laughing gas into the air or something. He'd never quite hit it off in this way with a girl - er person for that matter - before. It felt comfortable in a way which was one of the things he'd been finding he treasured a great deal in the company he kept now. She'd have a hard time discouraging him from trying to hang out with her in the future. He hoped she wouldn't try.

"Squandered? Hell no. I still have clothes. They can still be ripped!" he teased and gurgled another, half-breathless laugh from his throat then groaned good-naturedly at the ache it had created. It was worth it to feel this light-hearted.

Was she actually blushing though? He hadn't expected that and wondered exactly what it was that had made her cheeks flush. Maybe he needed to tone things down a bit? Nah. She could handle it and if she couldn't she had a pretty clear shot at kneeing him in the crotch if she wanted to. He was pretty vulnerable to her at this close a range. Though vulnerability was the last thing on his mind. He was still cycling through pb&j sandwiches, broom closets, fishing lures, old macdonald had a farm....

As her icy hands slid up his apparently much warmer back, he danced against her. "Hey now! First the tickling and now the random groping. Maybe I'm not the one with the bordering obsession. Hmmmm?" He grinned at her, trying not to laugh but it was sneaking out of the corners of his mouth in a slow puff of foggy air.

Rather than thinking of the comfort or discomfort of the situation, Lexie's brain was far too swamped with laughter. She'd long since hit the point of punch-drunk with tears threatening at the corners of her eyes. It was an odd sort of banter - one-upmanship with humor and banter. It was nice and fun and easy. She liked easy friendships.

"It sounds like you want 'em ripped off, space heater," she looked up with a playful look to her features. The sort of look that generally belonged during a game of Truth or Dare, actually.

The tint of flush had started to run off her cheeks as he found her hands all nice and toasty on Dean's bare back. She was groping him, wasn't she? The realization hit her in the side of the head. The only reason she didn't gasp and jump backward was that he didn't really seem to mind outside of the fact her hands were cold. So, she stayed put, feeling the muscles in her shoulders starting to give up their tightness in slow, shuddering shivers.

"Sometimes, Dean, when a girl gets very, very cold she has no choice but to grope in the name of self preservation. It's a survival instinct."

Had she really just said that with a straight face?

No, because as soon as two beats passed she was struggling to keep from laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. It was a good sort of ridiculous.

"S-space heater?" he stuttered, less from the cold and more from the fake indignance he thought that particular nickname deserved. "Yeah. I'm too hot. Please rip my clothes off, Sno-bo. Then I can rip yours off and I won't have to hear your crinkling all over the place."

Careful there, Doc, he thought. That look could get you kissed. Which made him groan inwardly this time because the minute that thought ran through his mind another one followed right on top of it. Sam. Sam telling him that he couldn't just run through here and break hearts. But kissing a girl who looked at him like that while he was trying to be so good - yeah maybe not that good - wasn't breaking hearts. No way. It was fair game. But now he'd thought too much about it. The moment flittered away into more laughter.

"Whoa, is that what it is? Then let's get you back outside!" He made a move like he was going to drag her back out the door to get her cold again. But he stopped. There was no way he was letting her get that cold again. Even if it was nice to have her fingers on his bare skin. Even if those fingers were icy cold and making it much easier for him to think normal thoughts and not the distraction techniques he'd needed moments before. Still that wasn't going to last long. It was good they were laughing and she wasn't looking at him like that anymore.

"Psssh, you like the crinkling," She shuffled back and forth a bit, the paper bags crunching nicely as she shook her shoulders back and forth. The bags, quite frankly, were causing her a bit more itch as their sharp edges jabbed at her, than it seemed they managed to insulate.

There was an odd sort of moment there - it certainly wasn't long enough to be judged a pause - but, Lexie wondered just what was going on behind those eyes of his. That second between laughing fits where things were quiet and still. Then it was gone, as her own quiet turned back to laughter again to match his own.

Suddenly he was moving and Lexie yelped, her instinct to clutch which she did. "If I go I'm taking you with me!" Her hands grabbed upward, away from the middle of his back where they had been to clinging on to his shoulders. Even when he stopped she held fast, arching her back as she laughed up toward the ceiling.

The laughter was making her feel lightheaded again. Or, maybe it was just that she was finally warm. One thing was certain - all notions of this hug being of even a remotely platonic nature were slipping away with each passing round of laughter.
