Day 7: On the road to the gas station
Who: Lexie Grey and Dean Winchester
What: Currently travelling from the Barn to the Gas Station
When: Day 7, Mid-Morning
Rating: PG-13 / R (Sexual situation)
Status: Complete

As much as Lexie really probably wanted to stay in the barn where it was warm and relatively safe after reading the journal's notes about the snow and the cold and the need to bunker down, she thought she had no other choice than to take a trip from her humble abode to the store for some supplies. In Boston people had loaded up on milk, toilet paper, and rock salt. Lexie had decided she'd be getting her hands on toilet paper, bottled water, and whatever food she could find. For better or for worse, Lexie had been only taking what she needed from the gas station up until now - suddenly the threat of inclement weather and a beastly trek made her reconsider how minimalist she could actually be.

Shoving her lighter in her pocket, Lexie left the rest of her things tucked carefully beneath the floorboards in the barn. She had seen that someone else had been through the barn the other day, and she wasn't so certain that she wanted them going through her humble possessions - even if all she had from the real world were some scrubs and an ID badge.

Pulling her sweatshirt tight about herself, she wondered why she hadn't gone looking for a hat and mittens days ago. Unfortunately, she'd let the cold and snow creep up on her and was left for a nice long walk with a sweatshirt, a heavy pair of construction boots, and jeans that felt they were meant more for summer wear than winter protection. Trudging down the path she squinted, the snow whipping into her eyes. She'd have quite a journey back if she took too long and the world got dark.

How far was it until the thrift shop? Suddenly she was wishing someone had annotated the map with those sort of notations - it would be useful if someone found themselves otherwise until to see the landmarks. She was really close to the pharmacy, looking about for anyone else. Though, at the moment from the best she could tell, everyone was holed up nice and snug in their respective shelters.

Way to be a poor planner, Lexie.

It was true, when it came down to it Lexie didn't know Dean beyond what he said in the journals. This was a lot like meeting somebody off of the internet, something she had promised herself she'd never resort to. You never knew what you were going to get off craigslist; but, Lexie had a feeling that three out of five times it was a stalker.

"What are you a weeble wobble?" She shook her head, realizing just how nice it was to actually laugh. She wasn't thinking about how to get home; or checking on Andy's stitches; or setting up the clinic just in case. No, she was just kicking back in a run down building laughing at nothing at all.

"Oh, I'm just a little dizzy is all," she said, planting her hands more firmly on the counter top in an effort to make the world stop. Really stop this time.

Lexie's eyes slipped closed a moment or two and she felt like she'd just had a few too many beers at happy hour. It's the blood rushing back to my head she thought. While not entirely comforting, at least she thought she knew what was wrong.

"Weebles wobble but they don't fall down." He bit his lip to keep from laughing but it didn't help. He let go again and laughed a bit too long this time. Tears formed at the corners of his eyes. What the hell was with him lately and laughing like a complete fool until he was all but crying? He couldn't remember ever being so bipolar. First he was serious and all save the day then he was laughing his ass off over children's toys or ridiculous clothing.

Wiping the corners of his eyes with his the knuckle of his ring finger, he glanced up at Lexie in time to see her re-plant her feet. She must be pretty damned dizzy to have to keep re-balancing herself like that. "Doc, you'd tell me if you needed help or whatever, right?" he asked and suddenly everything was serious again.

The gear switching was getting frustrating but all he could do is roll with the punches at this point. He wasn't getting much warmer and neither was she. That wasn't funny in the least. He moved closer to her, all but hovering over her as she closed her eyes. "I think you should sit down, dude."

She listened as Dean laughed, it was kind of nice to share this sort of happiness in a place like this. She hadn't really found anybody who would just laugh with her. Maybe she had just made herself too busy to laugh. 'Too busy,' she thought still working to maintain her focus.

Dean's laughter subsided and she could just about feel his concern as it leaked from his tone like technicolor splattered on to monochromatic film. They had just been laughing, right? Things had been OK, right? Suddenly it was all back to concern. She didn't much appreciate that. Lexie shook her head. She'd tell him if she needed help. Sure.

"Sit?" She asked, cracking open her eyes before tentatively blinking away the dizziness. "No, no,I'm alright." She hadn't realized she was being hovered over until she looked up. Until then she'd spent her time focused on the white lineoleum of the countertop and not really paying all too close attention to his movements. It was kind of sweet, actually, the way he was looking out for her.

"I just moved a bit too quickly is all," she said, giving what she thought to be a reassuring squeeze to his hand.

When she opened her eyes he felt a little better about it except she looked like she couldn't quite focus and kept blinking. He raised a brow at her. She was alright? He didn't believe that for a second now. "Or not. You look like you found the medical marijuana. Why didn't you share?"

He was definitely not the drug taking type. Wacky tabacky and all that was just a way of getting sloppy and getting yourself killed. Alcohol was different. At least that's what he told himself when he was sitting at the bar with a few cold ones and feeling mighty fine. Right now though he was wound so tight that he would have given anything for a couple brews, a game of pool and maybe a dance with the jukebox. Yeah he'd even dance.

She squeezed his hand and he held onto hers. With his other hand he felt her face and frowned. "Doc, you're still ice cold. I'm cold but I'm not that cold."

Lexie was laughing again. She sort of wished that some of the herb had been what was responsible for her current condition as opposed to moderate hypothermia without adequate time for her body to recover.

Lexie was never a huge drinker. She'd had her moments where she'd had a few too many; but, she usually knew when to stop. This, however was not a question of Lexie stopping smething. This was a question of her simply reacting to something. Like someone suffocating from a lack of air - her brain was trying to compensate for a lack of blood.

He called her cold and Lexie blinked hard. She thought she had warmed up. She thought she was warmer. She could not let herself panic. Closing whatever gap there had been between the pair of them, Lexie wrapped her arms around Dean again in a last ditch effort to get warm. She'd already broken the touch barrier once; it wasn't so hard to do it again.

"You're just looking for reasons to hang all over linebacker Lexie," she quipped.

Dean smirked out a breath of a laugh as she started laughing again herself. She was something else. Somehow her laughter was contagious and he found himself giving in again in spite of his concern over how cold she still was. His muscles were protesting and quivering again from being asked to endure all the laughter on top of having to be contracted to the max with the cold. He shivered almost violently as he laughed and considered for a moment throwing caution to the wind and grabbing one of the bottles of liquor for a nip.

Except then she was wrapping her arms around him again. That took care of that. And her. He put his arms around her and gave a squeeze, still chuckling. "That's exactly what I wanted, linebacker Lexie. Because feeling you up is just so easy when you're padded and frozen. You'll never know where my hands are, will you?"

He was immediately taken with her. She was infectious even when she was half-frozen and dizzy. Seemed like Shannon's idea that the pretty people were being collected wasn't the whole truth. They were pretty and a hell of a lot of fun to be around. Well most of them. The girls, at least. Suddenly all he could think of was Sam rolling his eyes at this and he laughed again.

"So you're not okay, are you?" he asked but his tone wasn't all that serious as if he was implying she might be coo-coo and destined for the loony bin. "What's your diagnosis, Doc?"

It was really sort of comforting to be held - even if it was by a virtual stranger. This time, however, Lexie had to forgo her discomfort, or rather her anticipation of his discomfort, and just hang there for a while. It was flipping cold in there, even if she didn't feel it any more and she and he both needed to warm up.

"Everybody wants linebacker Lexie, she's dead sexy," she chided, resting her cheek against his chest. Lexie shifted, "I swear, totally platonic," she said, abruptly unzipping his jacket and shoving her arms inside and around his middle. It was toasty warm in there. "You're like a space heater, you know that?"

"Yeah, you know, well I happen to really enjoy pretending to have hypothermia so that I have a reason to snuggle up with random strangers," She looked up, smirking. "What's your excuse?"

This time Dean just let her be there and held onto her without the shit-zoo thing or whatever she'd called it. He figured it was a massage or something. Not anything he'd ever had. There'd been that one time in the Swedish massage parlor but uh... He grinned above her eyeline and rested his cheek against her hair because it was just easier than trying to fight the fatigue in his neck. He felt like he needed to hibernate and sleep for days. At least his teeth weren't chattering anymore.

"Yes, very sexy is linebacker Lexie. I know at least twelve guys in the room alone who want their hands on you!" he chuckled and then felt himself take in involuntary deep breath in with a hiss of air between his teeth. "You're letting the cold air in, Doc!" he protested the same way he would have if he'd been in the shower and she'd opened the bathroom door. Oh he so couldn't think about taking a hot, steamy shower now. It actually was making him feel colder! So much for mind over matter in this instance.

"You know my excuse 'cause I already told you. I'm over here feeling you up while you're frosty. I like my women like I like my beer. Cold." He laughed a shaky, teasing laugh and pulled her a bit closer. Real platonic-like. Though he would never actually try to cop a feel. He might enjoy his women but he definitely respected them. Still, she felt nice in his arms and she was really not unpleasant company. And she needed the warmth. Right?

They were back laughing again. Nothing serious; and in Lexie's mind the seriousness of the blizzard, the insanity of a glass enclosed town, and the idea of stranger danger washed away leaving Lexie cold and drowsy huddled up against Dean in his coat.

"I know, irresistible," she murmured, trying to force her mind away from Vas Captio and back to the beach where it had been before. A bottle of beer in her hand, sand between her toes, hot cabana boy who looked very much like Dean putting up her umbrella. Shirtless.

"I bet you have a thing for snowmen, too," her eyes flickered dreamily for a moment as the beach left her thoughts and she was back in the pharmacy again. She chuckled to his ridiculous comparison of women and beer. She felt snug as a bug in a rug; well, if said bug was also wrapped in newspaper. A bug, wrapped up in newspaper being smothered by a hot dude. That was one lucky bug.

The hug, was it still platonic? Or, was it her half-frozen brain that kept telling her that maybe it wasn't? Oh, that was just plain ridiculous. Of course it was platonic. Totally platonic. Like hugging George platonic. Yeah, friendly.
