Nothing to Forget, and I've Got Nothing To Regret
Who: Edward Scissorhands and Nymphadora Tonks
What: Arrival Thread
Where: Near the barn
When: Day 6, morning
Rating: PG to start
Status: Complete

Edward was never cold. Even though it was freezing and it looked like snow, the creature that raised himself hesitantly on what looked like a formidable set of razorblades did not feel temperature change. He was confused, though... he had gone to sleep in his fireplace, and it had been too warm for ice to stay unmelted for long. A little thrill of excitement ran up Edward's spine, thinking of how beautiful he could make this place look if he had enough ice together at once.

The wild-haired, leather-clad young man then turned his attention to the situation at hand. It was odd that he hadn't worried immediately that he was somewhere other than where he'd thought he was, but Edward often lost track of where he was. It was part of his innocent perception of the here and now, and he knew well enough that impossible things could happen.

He glanced at the woman on the ground nearby. She looked like she was asleep, but a terrible dread gripped Edward. He had seen his father like this, and the rigid unresponsiveness had meant that he would never move again. But almost immediately, Edward was distracted by her bright pink hair. What wonderful hair... he'd never seen anything like it. Bending down, he quietly, happily began trimming the edges with scissors that were, in actuality, his hands.

"It's okay! I'll find it eventually, I reckon. Not like I haven't lost it before." Granted, the last time she lost her wand was when it was in her flat simply buried underneath the mess that she called her clothing. But she was trying to keep positive here. Thinking about the fact of not having her wand in a strange place would have made her wonky without the optimism. A step was taken closer and she was tugging at her hair again.

"Wotcher, Edward! And nice work, by the by. Feels good. I'll have to keep it in mind." For another style when she had the inclination. He spoke so softly that she wanted to keep the chipperness to make sure that he would be calm and okay. "Don't reckon that you know where we are, do you?" This was asked as she looked around them. There was the forest, and a barn. But she couldn't hear anyone actually in the barn..Mm.

Edward still wondered what was so significant about a stick. The woman seemed flustered enough to miss it, but resigned and optimistic enough to let the search go for a bit more time. It was a strange, perky attitude... another thing that reminded the timid thing of Peg Boggs.

He took a quavery, stiff step backwards to match her step forward, but stopped his retreat after only that much. His face brightened slightly, acquiring a pale smile, when she mentioned her haircut. Finally, a familiar reaction! People were usually happy to get their hair cut by him. "Don't... know..." he answered in the same small voice, piecing together words again. He hadn't needed language for a long time, and now it seemed that he'd have to remember it again.

She was studying him, head tilted again to one side. One of her favourite past times was, of course, people watching. Whether it was because of her ability to shapeshift, or simple curiosity was debatable. Likely a combination of the two. "I'm partial to short hairstyles, rather. So I'm always looking for something new."

She mixed in pleasant company with business easy as you please. "Mm. Maybe something in the barn will tell us where we are?" Hand motioned that they should go over and check. "Where are you from?"

Edward was, indeed, quite the subject for people-studiers to indulge their habit in. With his shock of wild hair, his softly human eyes, his chalky, scarred face, and the jutting angles and metal everywhere else, he was certainly an odd creature. He continued to smile as she praised his work on her hair, even though she hadn't asked for it first like everyone else.

He nodded slowly, following her as they started towards the barn. When she asked where he was from, though, it was clearly the type of question that threw the toddling, leather-clad humanoid into a bit of confusion. After some careful consideration, Edward finally said, "The mansion on the mountain... my Father made me there."

She liked odd, truth be told. And very much liked his hair. It looked fun! But the eyes, they were something else. Tonks turned her head to look at Edward, considering his answer. "Your father made you there?" Automatically, her brain went to that place. You know, that he was conceived in that mansion. But after a minute, the witch realised that he meant it. Literally.

She was still looking at him as they walked. And she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking. That was why Tonks kicked something on the ground. Two somethings. And flailed a little in her tripping over whatever she kicked.

Of course, Edward's own mind was nothing but heartbreakingly literal. Of course he had meant "made", in the realest sense possible. He meant from scratch, and as it was fairly obvious he wasn't human or very experienced in the ways of the world, the revelation was surprising for most people but not overly shocking. "Yes. I am a man," Edward said, a hint of pride to his voice. But his voice fell, even softer, before adding, "But I'm not finished."

As usual, Edward didn't notice staring, since he was used to it from his time in Suburbia. However, he looked when Tonks tripped, flailing slightly and almost reaching out to help her. He thankfully withdrew, however, knowing by now what would happen if he actually reached out to support someone falling.

Tonks was used to staring too, though for different reasons. And the staring was caused by decisions that she made. Mainly the crazy colours of her hair. "Course you're a man." She agreed after catching herself and managing, for once, not to fall straight on her ass. "And I don't think any of us are terribly finished. Be kinda boring if we were." Added with a grin.

Crouching down, she picked up the things that she had tripped over. Two little boxes, with..journals on top of them? "I reckon that we were expected, Edward." She moved the journal, looking at the box. "Vas Captio." Muttered. Then she was trying to remember her Latin translations.

"I'm sorry!" Edward said, in a soft and supremely apologetic voice, folding his scissors together in a similar fashion to a child whose usefulness was in suspension, feeling bad about not being able to help Tonks. He frowned, wondering if Tonks was like him. Not finished, in need of someone to complete her and help her reach others. She seemed finished to him; his eyes flickered toward her hands, which were flesh and soft with rosy fingernails. "Boring?"

Edward watched, puzzled, as Tonks picked up the two journals. He listened to the Latin phrases, certain that he'd heard them in lessons at some point, but unable to retrieve the information he had never had reason to retain. Shaking his head, he bit his lip, eyes flickering to the ground. Edward was happiest when he was useful, and it seemed like he was unable to do much of anything to help in this situation.

"S'alright! I'm dead clumsy." She chuckled, opening one of the boxes. Water. That was good. Matches..she picked those up. "Wet matches. Thanks, for that." Muttered to whoever had supplied them with these things.

Then she picked up the tic-tacs and shook them. Seriously? "They took a page from Moody's book." This would be like one of his uber-paranoid training sessions. She shook her head a little and looked back up to Edward. "One of these are yours."

It was odd for anyone to say that they were clumsy in Edward's presence, since his range of movements were so stiff and limited and his face was covered with unintentionally self-inflicted cuts and scars. But he had seen her almost-fall, and accepted the testimony faithfully.

He watched curiously as she examined the items in her case, since if he did he would doubtless hurt or break them. "Mine?" He asked doubtfully. Even when he'd lived with Peg and her family, he hadn't had possessions.
