Entry tags:!incomplete, day 05, dean winchester, location: church, luna lovegood, sam winchester

Who: Luna Lovegood, Dean and Sam Winchester
What: Beer and Pixie Sticks
When: Evening
Where: Outside the Church
Rating: TBA (Dean has an interesting vocab at times)
Status: Active

Night was in the wings to fall, Luna noticed as she sat on the steps at the front of the church. Back in the pants, button up shirt, suspenders and jean jacket she had worn not long before, it was cool but not extremely cold for her. Growing up in England and going on regular trips to Icelandic countries tended to keep one used to cold temperatures as a rule.

Dean had specified that his and Sam's father had been his height, when she had asked if either of their parents had been half giants, but he had never said how tall he  was. So, perhaps, he was another extremely tall individual. The Second Sam she had met that morning when he had arrived with Martha had also had attributes of a quarter giant. But, perhaps, America was full of such tall people. Visits to Sweden had revealed even larger individuals, but everyone knew that the water was magically inclined to overly large Muggles in that country. It was quite common knowledge.

Eating a small bar of chocolate, and avoiding the small cluster of multicolored dextrosey Pixie Walking Sticks in her lap, Luna was more interested in inspecting the clouds above than watching for any approaching persons. The obscured sky was easier to contemplate than some subjects that she would rather avoid her mind lighting upon.

Nightmares of a dungeon, Confoundus Charms, what porcupine pudding tasted of...

Suddenly he felt extremely competitive with Sam. This guy. He'd walked away from the family! He'd decided to never come back. Dean had grieved the loss of his brother for so long until it was no longer something he could handle without being angry over the whole thing. And now they were here and all Dean could do was feel loyal to this kid who had just turned his back and walked away. He'd tossed it a bit to the wind when he'd started things with Shannon but his brother had never out right said that he wanted Shannon for himself. That was a loophole. But Sam had been in his head the entire time. Now Sam was literally here, keeping him from getting close to yet another girl even though Dean wasn't entirely interested in Luna the way he'd been interested in Shannon.

Not that Luna wasn't amazing looking. But he felt so protective of her. He wanted to simply be around her and Sam was making this into something else. Inferring that Dean was being dishonorable with bad intentions. It was enough to make him want to yell in frustration. Not to mention he was so sick of hearing that blasted alarm. This was the day from hell.

Dean tossed a sarcastic smile at Sam as he coughed into his beer. "It'd probably take more than that," Sam said and Dean made a face at him out of Luna's line of sight. Turning to her again though he said, "That is correct, sunshine girl. You are on your way to being an honorary Winchester." He reached over to the half-drunk six pack and pulled another can out for her, setting it beside her hand for whenever she was finished with her hit of dextrose.

With a smug smile at Sam, Dean pulled one of the blue pixie sticks from his shirt pocket and ripped the top from it and tipped the sugar into his mouth. "Delicious sky," he said with a grin at Luna before tossing the empty wrapper over his shoulder toward his brother. "Never had a girl put the sky in my pocket. Thank you."

Completely unaware of the reason for the feeling of rising tension between the two men, that it had little to do with her as herself in reality, Luna chalked up their behavior as simply being that of brothers who were in close proximity a good deal.

She was interested in this idea of being an 'honorary Winchester' because the thought of actually belonging to something, if only in an 'honorary' capacity was too tempting to resist. The DA had ended officially when she had been fourteen, unofficially after the war (at least for some), and now they were little more than a memory, an enchanted coin, and a medal of recognition from the Minister.

Sam coughed on his beer, and she had to ask, "Is this normally how American drink your alcohol? It does not seem very efficient." Really, first Dean multiple times, and now Sam. A pattern was beginning to develop. She held out her can to Dean to see if he would crush it as he had his own, curious over why, but thinking it was interesting even without an explanation.

"Oh good," she set her empty paper tube down onto the stairs, tucking the trash under one of the six clusters of metal containers to hold it in place to keep from blowing away. When she opened her second can, it was done carefully, prying the metal tab up with her thumb. The first new drink of horrible tasting alcohol had just passed her lips when the elder of the two brothers ate his pixie stick. His comment and thanks earned him another bright smile, even while Sam questioned her comment about the stars. "You are welcome."

The can had to be momentarily set down so that she could point out what she meant by tracing lines among the stars with one raised finger. "There's supposed to be a bear's face, part of what the Muggles call 'Leo,'" Astronomy had been a class that she had enjoyed quite highly, it was lovely to stare at the stars and be given credit for the pastime. "Or the leggings left on the floor, what they call part of their 'Gemini.'" When she finally lowered her hand, tracing a few more patterns that should be there, but were not. Or were, and she did not recognize, she curled her hand around her can and took another drink.

"I do not recognize any of the stars, they are strangers."

This time Sam didn't fight the urge to roll his eyes at his brother when he made a face at his comment on the number of beers it took to be a Winchester. It wasn't as if he was wrong. Dean and their Dad alone would wipe out a six pack without feeling much effect at all. Drinking was a Winchester past time that wasn't taken lightly. His dad had bought him his first beer at fifteen. He wasn't sure what she meant by Americans drinking beer. As far as he knew it was the same in England and America.

Sam's eyebrows seemed to cave in the middle as he gave Dean an exasperated look when he poured the blue pixie stick into his mouth. He knew his brother was doing it, just to rile him up, but that didn't mean that Luna knew that. Besides, Luna was confused enough over the whole kiss with Andy that she didn't need Dean making things more complicated by sending her the wrong signals. The bright smile she gave Dean only made Sam more determined to make sure Dean didn't mess with her right now.

Sam glanced upwards as Luna pointed out the stars, biting back a smile at her descriptions. They weren't exactly what he was used to. He was reminded of camping trips and lying in sleeping bags while Dean pointed out the big dipper. He glanced sideways at his brother, Luna's words striking a chord in him.

They were strangers to him too.

He took a long drink of his beer. "How long have you been interested in Astronomy?" Sam asked, when he couldn't think of anything else to say in the silence following.
