Day 5 - Early Evening
Who: Dean Winchester & Shannon Rutherford
What: Shower time!
When: Early Evening
Where: The gym
Rating: R (language, nudity - definitely NSFW)
Status: Complete

Dean was whistling an old Van Halen standard as he made his way back into town and then through it. The streets were beginning to look familiar now. He'd only managed to track 3 miles or so of the glass wall at the south side of town. The interlude with Tink had been a lot of fun. It had been a while since he'd gone exploring just for the sake of exploring. Now he was one his way back with the promise of a shower -- and seeing Shannon.

As he walked, he mused. He didn't have friends. Well not usually. But if he had to name anyone as a friend, it'd be her, Shannon. Probably his best friend. There was an understanding between them of something not quite tangible. They recognized each other in a certain way that he didn't figure anyone else could. Which was a little confusing. It both made him feel a lot less indignant for having to be here and sorry. Sorry because even though Cassie had dumped him - rather painfully so - he felt like it was cheating her to be attracted to Shannon. Not to mention he'd picked up on some kind of vibe between Shannon and his brother. That spelled trouble if he got involve, he knew it.

Yet here he was, swinging open the door of the gym and stepping inside. Still whistling, he wandered the dark rooms and halls, following the old and disheveled signs toward the showers. There were, of course, separate showers for men and women so he peeked his head into the locker room for the women and called out. "Hey, Super Girl, did you beat me here?"

Dean looked back at her over his shoulder. He wasn't quite sure what the expression was on her face because it was half hidden in the shadows but her tone of voice was a bit sheepish. It made his anger melt somewhat. Or at least it made him pause before saying something mean in response. Why he felt the need to take this out on her was beyond him. There was more to it than just having been interrupted in the middle of tension relief. He'd risked his relationship with his brother and she'd ended it for what turned out to be nothing but what if it HAD been something?

Slowing his step until she was right next to him, Dean answered quietly, "Yeah so much for Super Girl. Private Pretty still holds though."

His voice was a bit flatter than he'd meant it to be but he hoped she'd take it at face value. He was trying not to take anymore ego blows from her than he had to. That's what it felt like he'd had to do. Again. The first time they'd met he'd had to take a blow to keep her happy. Seemed like Sam got the good parts from where he stood. After having been with Cassie so long, Dean knew that the good parts weren't just sex but emotion. Making love. Sam hadn't made love with Shannon (as far as he knew) but there had been real emotions shared between them. It was the precursor. Something Dean would never have with her. And that - THAT was why he was angry. Jealous of his brother. His brother he still didn't know very well. Over a girl who was probably nothing like the girl he was trying to recapture. Self-decption, Winchester. Not attractive.

They'd reached the door to the outside now and, stepping aside, Dean held it open for her, allowing sunlight to spill in across her face. He was struck again then with how pretty she was. He wanted to kiss her again, push her back into the darkness and finish what they started. Except it wouldn't be what he wanted anymore. So instead he swayed his arm toward the outside and smiled, allowing the mask of charm to hide his face. "Your chariot awaits. Er, well, no place like home?"
