Day 5 - Early Evening
Who: Dean Winchester & Shannon Rutherford
What: Shower time!
When: Early Evening
Where: The gym
Rating: R (language, nudity - definitely NSFW)
Status: Complete

Dean was whistling an old Van Halen standard as he made his way back into town and then through it. The streets were beginning to look familiar now. He'd only managed to track 3 miles or so of the glass wall at the south side of town. The interlude with Tink had been a lot of fun. It had been a while since he'd gone exploring just for the sake of exploring. Now he was one his way back with the promise of a shower -- and seeing Shannon.

As he walked, he mused. He didn't have friends. Well not usually. But if he had to name anyone as a friend, it'd be her, Shannon. Probably his best friend. There was an understanding between them of something not quite tangible. They recognized each other in a certain way that he didn't figure anyone else could. Which was a little confusing. It both made him feel a lot less indignant for having to be here and sorry. Sorry because even though Cassie had dumped him - rather painfully so - he felt like it was cheating her to be attracted to Shannon. Not to mention he'd picked up on some kind of vibe between Shannon and his brother. That spelled trouble if he got involve, he knew it.

Yet here he was, swinging open the door of the gym and stepping inside. Still whistling, he wandered the dark rooms and halls, following the old and disheveled signs toward the showers. There were, of course, separate showers for men and women so he peeked his head into the locker room for the women and called out. "Hey, Super Girl, did you beat me here?"

The loss of him was equally as disappointing as it was frustrating, but the fear she felt overpowered it by far. When he started away, she bent to pick up her things and followed, catching the hoodie as he tossed it to her. Somehow, the bet didn't seem all that important and she pulled the hoodie on, shoving her things unceremoniously into the backpack and taking out a pair of jeans. She skipped screwing around with undergarments and hopped into the jeans, yanking them up with effort over her wet skin.

Dean said it might not be someone and she hated, for the first time, that they were on the same page. Putting the backpack on over her shoulders again, she froze in place as he dressed and listened hard for any further sounds, but there were none. Either she'd been hearing things, someone had opened the door and changed their mind about actually coming in, or whatever was inside was in predator mode, now, keeping quiet as it or they stalked their prey.

She slid her sneakers on and stood close to Dean, swallowing thickly as still no further sound seemed to inhabit the gym. Her breath was shallow and uneven. "Do you hear anything?" she whispered urgently. "I don't hear it anymore..."

Reaching back around herself, she pulled open the front pocket of the backpack and groped blindly until her hand closed around the lighter. She didn't, however, strike it again, yet. She'd wait until Dean asked her to, because she didn't want to draw attention to them if they were being silently stalked.

Dean bent over his own clothes and tugged on his boxers first, standing up straight again to listen for any further sounds that might be coming from the rest of the gym. He listened a long moment, hearing nothing more than a soughing wind at the window. Then reaching down he pulled on his jeans and tossed around for his t-shirt in the middle of the pile of boots and leather. His mind was whirling through the possibilities, mentally checking off things it could not be and adding things it might be in the same fast pace he had been used to working before this place.

Once he was finally dressed, he glanced over at Shannon who was standing close to him again. His eyes didn't stay long on her before flickering back to the darkness at the door to the showers. "No, I don't hear a thing, Shannon," he answered her, his voice low and a bit hard. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jacket and walked a step or two away from her, closer to the door. He held his breath and listened again. Still nothing.

He knew he'd heard something like a rustle before. It hadn't registered in his mind as anything dangerous. More like the sound of the wind or someone maybe passing by the building. He'd heard that people stayed in the place too and perhaps they were coming back for the evening to rest since the fucking alarms had been keeping everyone from sleep for over 12 hours. And while he hadn't really wanted to get caught with his pants down, literally, it would not have been the end of the world. Well. Unless it was Sam.

He tossed his gaze over his shoulder at Shannon. She looked almost scared to death in the slight light from the window. He saw her fumbling for something in her pocket and turned back to the door. Taking a few more steps away from her, he peeked out into the hall from the corner of the doorway. Nothing moved. Nothing made a sound. He saw nothing.

"I think we're safe," he said without looking at her. "Come on. I'll walk you out of the building."
