Dean was whistling an old Van Halen standard as he made his way back into town and then through it. The streets were beginning to look familiar now. He'd only managed to track 3 miles or so of the glass wall at the south side of town. The interlude with Tink had been a lot of fun. It had been a while since he'd gone exploring just for the sake of exploring. Now he was one his way back with the promise of a shower -- and seeing Shannon.

As he walked, he mused. He didn't have friends. Well not usually. But if he had to name anyone as a friend, it'd be her, Shannon. Probably his best friend. There was an understanding between them of something not quite tangible. They recognized each other in a certain way that he didn't figure anyone else could. Which was a little confusing. It both made him feel a lot less indignant for having to be here and sorry. Sorry because even though Cassie had dumped him - rather painfully so - he felt like it was cheating her to be attracted to Shannon. Not to mention he'd picked up on some kind of vibe between Shannon and his brother. That spelled trouble if he got involve, he knew it.

Yet here he was, swinging open the door of the gym and stepping inside. Still whistling, he wandered the dark rooms and halls, following the old and disheveled signs toward the showers. There were, of course, separate showers for men and women so he peeked his head into the locker room for the women and called out. "Hey, Super Girl, did you beat me here?"

Shannon had made her way toward the gym, terribly slowly because the dress was actually starting to make movement a bit more painful than it was probably worth and had let herself inside, calling out to see if anyone was in there. It was dark and she wished she'd remembered to bring her torch with her, but the lighter she'd snagged on her way out of the gas station would have to do, she supposed. No one answered and, so, she let herself in further, peering around at the destruction inside with the sad sort of thoughtful expression one gets when looking at a relic.

There hadn't been towels at the thrift shop that she'd seen and she thought maybe she'd have noticed even if they hadn't been on her mind at the time. So, Shannon made her way into what looked like an office - probably the old gym teacher or coach's from the looks of it - and started rifling through the cabinets in search of them. The dress grew more uncomfortable by the minute and she found herself wondering if it was cheating if she just went naked under the stupid coat. Probably, unfortunately, she thought.

A whistling and then Dean's voice echoed in some part of the gym and Shannon looked over her shoulder reflexively. "Yeah, I'm in the office looking for towels," she called back. "No such luck so far," she added almost apologetically.

The dark didn't bother him and there was enough light from windows for him to make his way without much difficulty. He'd almost have liked to have Tink with her glow with him but that image didn't seem to fit in with the idea of having a shower or with spending time with Shannon. He smiled to himself and glanced again around the locker room before he heard her voice in answer.

Backing out of the girls' locker room - now that was a high school memory! - he looked around, for the direction in which her voice had come. He hadn't quite heard what she said so he called back, "What's that? You're nooking some fowls without much pluck?" He grinned and sauntered through the halls, his eyes becoming even more accustomed to the dim light inside.

He could just picture her trying to take a cold shower in the dark. It was seriously amusing and he laughed a little too loudly, shoving a knuckle against his mouth to muffle it immediately. Hell, nothing said anything had to happen. This could just be a nice shower and they'd part ways again. Well until they both went back to the museum. And Sam. Damn... well he'd better get it over with now that he was here. He felt like a putz now. Damn, damn, damn.

"Call out again so I can find you?" he said a bit louder than before, pausing mid-stride to look around in the silence, waiting to hear her again.
