Who: Shannon Rutherford & Locke Lamora
What: Scavenging for goodies
When: Morning, probably around midmorning?
Where: Thrift Store
Rating: TBD (Oh, let's say PG-13 to start)
Status: Complete

Sleep deprivation was nothing new for Locke - he had experienced sharp changes to his sleeping patterns when he was in training to be a clever pirate and then again when he had come to be a member of the Orchid's crew. The only difference between that time and this was that, currently, Locke had no strong coffee to perk his mind back to its normal speed and, to make matters worse, there was the unpredictable wail of a siren every few moments. The first few times he had heard it, Locke had been sure that he would find a raging fire as soon as he left the confines of the church - but there had been nothing. After the fifth or seventh time, he had come to realize that it was nothing but a nuisance but that made it no less irritating when tore through the early morning peace. Realizing that sleep was now impossible, Locke resolved to head to the thrift store in order to scrounge together anything which might be useful - which meant anything that could either replace what had been taken from him or anything which might help in his self-appointed mission of having a good look at the glass walls and any trees which might be near them.

Locke shivered unpleasantly in the cool of the morning as he hurried toward the spot on the map marked as the thrift store and, when he came to what appeared to be the right building, he let himself quietly inside. He quickly glanced around for any sign of the woman whom he had agreed to meet but, seeing no trace of her, he decided to start his scavenge without her - well, as soon as he found some warmer and more appropriate clothes, at least. He supposed that he would just have to put up with the strange garments of this time and place.

A small smile crept over Shannon's lips as Leo seemed to get lost in his own explanation. It was like watching someone relive a memory without realizing they were doing so. Maybe that was, indeed, what she was witnessing. She was almost sorry when he cut himself off and gave her a grin. "Yeah, well, I'm still holding to hope that we're getting out of here soon and then you can go back to that again. Sounds like you miss it," she told him, her expression both fond and sympathetic.

In reference to the Island, Shannon's smile fell away. "It was...well, like I said. A long story. I'm not really sure I'm ready to tell it yet in its entirety, if I'm honest," she said apologetically. It wasn't anything personal and she didn't have anything to hide, but after the previous night sharing with Sam, Shannon wasn't really ready to delve back into those thoughts. Especially not when she was having so much fun here with Leo. No reason to drag it down.

"Oh, please, yes, I'd hate it if the jacket clashed," Shannon replied, laughing. "That would really be awful if it took away from the focus of this love, lovely outfit," she added with mock seriousness. "Ah, that's a fair point," she agreed in the same tone of voice. "You know what's funny?" she asked, laughing and shaking her head. "Is that that fuckin' guy Rorschach? Thinks that he's the glorious object of my undying affection. He's decided that my friend Domeki is merely a cover story. What a tool," she sniggered.

Her eyebrows raised in challenge as he started to try and contradict her and then she joined in his laughter when he finally relented. "Well, good, then at least we both look like assholes," she joked. Her eyes followed him as she listened to him and he was looking for a jacket for her. When he held it up, Shannon pursed her lips against another laugh and then, after a short pause to pretend to collect herself, Shannon nodded. In a purposefully emotionally dramatic voice, she said, "I don't think I've ever seen anything that exquisite in my life." Fanning her face, she shook her head and held up one finger as if to say she needed a moment and then she dropped the guise again and took the ugly thing, pulling it on over the barely-there dress. "This is maybe even uglier than the dress, but I'm not sure. It's a close call, but hey, it's warm, so that'll do," she replied with a smirk.

When he agreed that they should get back to business, Shannon picked up and folded her discarded clothes, carrying them around as she started to look through some of the sections of the store. Picking up random things that looked like they might fit as well as be warm and comfortable, Shannon started to think maybe she ought to look for something to carry them in, because her load of potential wardrobe was starting to get heavy. "There's actually some not-so-ugly stuff over here," she said from the men's section, where she'd grabbed an over-sized hoodie.

"I--" Leo stumbled a bit on the chance to say that he missed Camorr. Truth be told, he knew that he likely could never return to those streets on pain of death - and there was a large part of him that was wholly content to let his memories of that place sink away to the bottom of his mind. The only problem with doing so was that it would all but demand that Leo forget the people who had done so much to shape him into the man he now was - and he would never let go of those memories. Again, he hid his thoughts well under an easy smile. "Well, you obviously know how it is, but I think just about any place would look like a paradise after a few days here."

"Hey, don't worry about it," he shook his head and offered a sympathetic smile in response to her words about the Island. He knew, all to well, what it was to have things which were better left unsaid and he wasn't about to demand that she drudge up anything painful - even if he was a touch curious. "If you ever feel like telling me about it, I'll listen. If not, I'll live." He grinned and gestured vaguely with one hand. "Women, their love for mystery, and all that."

"Huh, I don't know," Leo tipped his head to one side and crossed his arms over his narrow chest. He did his best to sculpt his features into a perfect mimicry of deep thought as he squinted slightly at Shannon. "Has anyone other than you met this Domeki kid? It could be that your deep love for psychotic bastards with justice fetishes has caused you --" He broke off with a snicker and shook his head. "Yea, sorry. I just can't do it. There's something clearly cracked about that fellow and I'm just waiting for him to set himself up as the law of this place."

"Well, at least we can look like senseless assholes together," Leo laughed and handed the coat across to her. The combination of colors, once the coat was pulled on, was enough to blind and he couldn't imagine even the most desperate of wenches from the Lily allowing something like that within fifteen yards of their bodies - but he still managed to clap loudly and whistle on his fingers. "Ah, you're a vision shaped by the very hands of the gods themselves! I've never seen such a glorious combination of color and pattern! You look like someone ate from the bottom of the canal and threw up all over your dress - but at least you won't freeze to death."

Leo found that his attention wandered easily from the stacks of clothing to some shelves against one of the walls - but he detoured long enough to pick out the largest of a few assorted packs left forgotten amongst a stack of dress pants. Into this, he put a few of the larger glasses found on the shelf - after checking them for strength and the thickness of the glass. He was just beginning to sort through small bottles of what smelled like cooking spices when he heard Shannon call to him and he turned to glance over his shoulder. "Oh, that's good. I'll probably need to pick a few things out since I can't imagine my clothes will do much good should it get much colder."
