Day 5: Way too early in the morning
Who: The Doc and George
Where: On the road from the thrift store to the carnival
When: Let's call it 7?
Rating: TBD
Status: Active

What was with the alarms? Really, the Doctor didn't quite get it. He had slept well enough in spite of the strange noises (dubbed smoke monster by Shannon) that flowed from the treeline and battered trees and the museum alike. It was like a tornado had ripped through bits of the wood that buffered the town from it's glass enclave.

Just because he was a bit annoyed with not being able to sleep, didn't mean that the Doctor couldn't be productive. So, at the first blow of the alarm the Doctor was up and moving and on his way to the Thrift store. Step one was to try and find what he could to put together an amplifier for his sonic pulse. Emerging from the thrift store, arms laden with wires and bits of metal and a few small tools, it didn't appear that he actually had anything really suitable for making his speaker. Then again, to the naked eye he just had a bunch of scrap.

Awkwardly one of the coils unravelled from his grasp and threatened to trip him. "Oh, fantastic," he muttered, trying to contort so that his right hand could grab it. He thought for a moment his pinky finger could reach. No dice.

George shrugged, nodding. Okay so he was from London. Or at least he'd come from there; one did not necessarily mean the other. At least he was from a year George could relate to; knowing people had come from the 1920s and the future (George didn't even remember what year River had said it was) unsettled her a lot. It meant there was something preternatural about this place, and she did not like that at all.

"Oh! Oh, yeah, okay. I'm supposed to be going there as well." Not really, she just wanted to go because it had felt important to know a few more faces. She snorted at the Doctor's preference for good bumper cars. It had been ages since she'd been on those. "Let's hope they work."

Because in all seriousness, the Carnival didn't look all that functional. George had walked over to the accessories section, and found a small purse, clearly from the 1970s (judging by shape and brown leather). It would do fine to keep her journal in, along with anything else she might need. "Found me a purse!" She wiggled it in the Doctor's direction cheerfully.

"They were working yesterday - I was asleep in one when it just switched itself on. I'm hoping to salvage a few batteries out of them for my modulator."

He was drifting toward the door, his sleepy mind caught quite heavily on needing to get to his work when he heard her joy-filled cry. "That looks precisely like one Sarah Jane used to have," came his tone echoing her own. It was always nice to sort of see blasts from his past - especially when they related to his favorite people.

"So you're coming to the parts salvage, then?" He stood at the door holding it open, clearly excited at the prospect of having another grease monkey about to help with pulling parts.

George was surprised, and impressed. She didn't think anything worked in that place; not that she'd be running to the amusements in the Carnival any time soon, but it was good to know something worked.

Following the Doctor out the door - and nodding in thanks for him having held it open for her - George tilted her head. "Who's Sarah Jane?" She snorted. "Well, I don't know about all that, but if you need a hand, I can try. Might end up breaking something, but you know..."

"She and I traveled together for a very long time," he grinned, thinking fondly of Sarah. He wondered how she was doing these days - it'd been a while since he'd seen her. "She was a clever one," he remarked, unable to stifle his grin.

"Well, the more the merrier, besides, they're all pretty well broken down to start with, it's not as if we're trying to fix them."

He waggled his brow, offering a friendly bit of temptation.

George nodded, smiling. "Clever's always better."

She snickered at the Doctor's waggling brow, and walked towards him. "Well, okay then, let's give it a shot." With a broad smile, George began walking.
