Day One: 12:30 pm
Who: Illyana Rasputin and Remy LeBeau
What: Hunting for clothing and shoes
When: Day 1 - 12:30 pm
Where: The shops on the west side of the street
Rating: PG?
Status: Active

After her initial encounter with the good Dr. House, Illyana had opted to stay put in the abandoned home, exploring the rooms and confirming that, indeed, everything had been stripped bare. There was no running water in the taps, which meant the toilets wouldn't flush, but at least there were toilets. She hesitated to go out at first, not out of concern for her own modesty - she'd never been body-shy, but out of concern for the weather. It was a bit chilly outside, as she'd found out when she opened the front door, so she'd decided to wait till the sun was a bit higher in the sky and it warmed up a little before she set out exploring. That also gave her a chance to communicate with the other people here and find out what she could before stepping outside into the unknown. Reconnaissance.

Once the sun hit the apex of the sky, Illyana decided enough was enough, and headed out, keeping the holey socks on her feet so they wouldn't get ripped up by the concrete or pavement. It had warmed up a bit, thank goodness, and there didn't seem to be many people about as she made her way up the lane. Maybe they'd all gone into hiding, or were congregating elsewhere. She'd seen people writing about a diner, and maybe she'd swing by there, but not till after she found clothing that would be more practical. The Darkchylde's wardrobe wasn't really suitable for a place like this. She'd need shoes and sturdy pants - jeans, if she could find them.

Seeing nothing but a library at the cross street, she turned left, heading toward the diner and what looked like a shopping arcade beyond it. She passed the diner and headed toward the shops, deciding that shoes would be the first thing she'd look for. Bare feet and pavement would not work, and she'd wear through the socks pretty quickly otherwise. She carried her little box with her, shifting it from one hand to the other as she walked. She'd need to find something with a pocket large enough to carry the contents, hopefully a coat of some sort.

"Marty's Shoes," she muttered, catching sight of the sign above one of the shops. She grinned. That would be promising. At least, she hoped so. She yanked on the door, peering in through the glass as she did so. She might have to resort to boys' shoes.

He still didn't give her his actual name, which was a more than a little infuriating. Not that she'd let him see that. There'd be time enough to figure it out. He went around her and started browsing himself, which let Illyana continue her 'shopping' as well. She grabbed the shoes she'd been about to try on and, stripping the stupid tube socks, see how they fit. Bit tight. Maybe the next size up.

She considered Gambit's words. He knew her, but she didn't know him. That was odd, to say the least. Although, her expression brightened when he said he used to be an X-Man. There was an odd look in his eyes as he said it, which made her wonder about why he'd left. But, that wasn't any of her business. Why'd anyone leave? "Good to know we're on the same side, at least," she said, grabbing another likely pair of shoes. These were much better. "Scott still married to Madelyn where you're from?" she asked, making casual conversation. She'd already figured out that he was from a different point in time than she was, so it would be good to see how off they were. Not that she really wanted to think about the Goblyn Queen right now. That just reminded her of what she'd been pulled from.

Gambit turned and glanced back at her when she asked about 'Madelyn', an odd questioning expression on his face. But then he just shook his head but didn't answer, sending red hair flying in all directions for a moment.

Aah, a pair of sneakers. Size eleven? Score. He grabbed two pairs of those, then a pair of work boots for good measure. The boxes were left behind and he tied the laces together for easier carrying, then he was moving out of the aisle and for the register. A few button punches had it coming open and he fished out the cash there, shoved it into a pocket and smiled back at her.

"'Dis place ain' safe, chere. Shouln' be runnin' roun' on y' own. Mean 'dat. Fin' someone y' trus' an' stick wit' 'dem. Gat'er up wha' y' can 'cause y' gonna need everyr'in." See? That cart out there full of stuff?

That was his, and it was chock full of things he thought he might need. A clothing store was next on his list. Because this? Well, this uniform made him stick out like a sore thumb, and while that was great for bragging rights in the old city, it wasn't so great here. The Management already had a beat on him and this time he was working on being low-key.

That wouldn't last long.

So he was from her future, if he said Scott and Madelyn weren't together any more. Maybe that meant they defeated the Goblyn Queen and everything worked out in the end, even if her spell hadn't finished.

She found a better-fitting pair of loafers and noted the size, following Gambit's example of snagging other shoes in the same size. The first pair, she slid over her feet, happy now to have something besides those quickly wearing out tube socks to protect them. By the register, there were a few pairs of socks, so she grabbed those as well, stuffing them in the shoes she carried.

"Well, since you're the only one from home here, that means I'm sticking with you, for now," she said, moving closer to him. He was a former X-Man, and not associated with the Hellfire Club. Right now, that meant he was her best friend, and the only person she'd think of trusting in this place.

"Did you...how was my brother, the last time you saw the X-Men?" she asked. Really, as long as Piotr was safe, she could handle just about anything here. She thought about asking after Kitty, but she was overseas with Kurt and Rachel, and, from the last letter she'd gotten before the Inferno, she seemed content to stay across the pond.
