Who: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester and possibly Castiel later.
What: Having a side conversation. Continued from here.
When: Day 1 - 10:45am
Where: Mickey's Diner
Rating: R
Status: Complete

Apocalypse. Angels. Antichrist. Nothing that Dean had said over the journals or now in person was making any sense to Sam. That combined with the fact that his brother looked way more worn and beaten down than Sam had ever seen made Sam wonder if there was something really wrong. Plus, Dean had more than enough sense not to be spouting words like antichrist around a bunch of strangers that had woken up in the same deserted town that they had. One of the first rules of hunting was not singling yourself out and as far as he could tell Dean had been doing just that. Just because they knew the Yellow Eyed Demon wasn't behind this didn't mean that Lilith wasn't. For all they knew, she'd stuck them here so that they wouldn't be able to find a way out of Dean's deal.

Not that there weren't other possibilities. Who was this Castiel person and how did he know the Trickster? The Trickster could bend reality, but did it have the power to pull people from different times? It didn't make any sense. Neither did the fact that there were people here that knew them. People that he didn't remember meeting and knew things about Sam that he wouldn't have ordinarily shared with anyone else. They needed to get to the bottom of this and then get out. So why Dean was suddenly acting like a mental case was beyond him.

As he pulled him towards a back booth and away from the small gathering of people he studied his brother's movements and eyes. He was moving fine and his pupils weren't dilated, so it wasn't a concussion or drugs. He released his arm only when they got to the back of the diner. "Dean, what the hell is going on?" Sam asked, studying his face. "What antichrist incident? What are you talking about? We just buried Doc Benton less than a day ago." He had to bite his tongue not to mention that they also might have buried Dean's only chance to escape the deal. "And why are you suddenly in biblical mode? Angels, apocalypse, antichrist? All you need is a bell and a sandwich board that says 'The End is Near'."

Dean's jaw tightened as he saw the hurt in Sam's eyes. He tried to shove down the desire to try to reassure his brother that things were going to be ok...because he couldn't promise that and he had wanted to know the truth. "Yeah, she was a part of it...she's dead now though. This isn't just some horrible world in peril deal, this is the apocalypse as in biblical. We're all kinda in over our heads here," he forced a small laugh. "There's nothing we can really do about it now so hopefully you can remember not to trust Ruby when you get back to your time and we'll all just be peachy." It really was a "when" in Dean's eyes, not an "if" they were getting back.

"Oh, and don't go after Lilith," he added as an after thought before turning to Cas. "Any ideas on what's behind this?" He was thankful the angel was with him, he was probably the closest person to him besides Sam and even though his angelic mojo was fading it was still nice to have him around.

"Gabriel," Castiel began readily. "But if we're certain that we're all from when we think we're from, then he has altered more than our perceptions of the world."

At last, Castiel sat down and rested his elbows on the table. He was starting to be puzzled by this. What was more, he wasn't certain if there really were any angels nearby or not. If they were, then he couldn't feel them, which was cause for all the more concern.

At least now he told someone who listen who would do more than simply nod when he said that.

Sam knew there was more there behind Dean's eyes, but he suddenly wasn't in a hurry to hear all of it. It was enough to know that he'd trusted a demon. One that had not only betrayed them, but the rest of the human population. He swallowed and looked down at his hands, not sure what he could tell Dean. Of course he'd remember. He wasn't about to forget the look on his brother's face at that moment. His head snapped up when Dean mentioned Lilith. He bit back the words on the tip of his tongue. She'd held Dean's deal, of course he was going after Lilith. She was practically the one that had sent him to Hell, other than Sam himself. Instead he tightened his jaw and remained silent.

It was a silence that was short lived. "Wait," he said, looking over at Cas. "Gabriel. As in the angel, Gabriel? The Trickster's an angel?" He huffed and looked at Dean. "You're right, they are douches."

Son of a bitch, he knew that look in Sam's eyes. He had practically raised the kid, he knew all Sam's looks. "I'm serious DO NOT go after Lilith, understand? I know she sent me to hell but I get out at the end of that book so we're good. Just leave it," he looked at Sam with pleading eyes, hoping he would understand. Sam had that same vengeful streak their Dad had, proving that kind of attitude lead nowhere fun.

Suddenly his expression turned to one of confusion and he looked between Sam and Cas. "Wait...when did the Tricker become an an archangel?"

"He's always been an archangel. At least he has been. We were trapped in a series of traps when he pushed me out of the one you were both in and into whatever this is." The more he elaborated on his story, the more powerless and frustrated he felt. Against Gabriel, Castiel would always feel inferior, as was the ranking of the angels, but he hated knowing that he had nearly no power whatsoever over Gabriel.

He couldn't even get away from this town. He had yet to try it, but he knew that any attempt to return to Ohio would be fruitless.

Sam gave Dean an unbelieving look. How could he tell him that? "We're good?" He repeated incredulously. He sighed heavily and shook his head. He didn't have to tell Dean what that deal had cost him. The hell he was leaving it. Unless...that was the way Ruby had gotten to him. Sam's brow wrinkled as he tried to work it out. He didn't have enough details, but he had enough. Now that made sense. If Ruby knew where Lilith was...if she knew how to kill her...

"So he's behind this?" Sam asked. "What does he want with all these other people? Doesn't he usually reserve his lessons for a specific person?" He pressed his lips together and looked at Castiel's scratched face. "If you're both angels, why aren't you both on the same side?"

"Wow, looks like you're in the lead dude. I don't remember dealing with the Tricker...Gabriel recently." This time line shit was starting to make his head. In fact the only thing that could make it worse was Sam being annoying...right on time little bro.

"Lilith is involved in this stuff, so just leave her alone." Wait, wrong choice of words idiot. That'll just make him want to go after her more, why couldn't he just listen to Dean? "Her death...it triggers things. Things we don't want getting trigger," he groaned in frustration knowing he was no good at playing the cryptic game, that was more Castiel's thing. "Can't you just listen me this time around? That would be awesome."

More than once, Castiel had to stand around and listen to these two bicker. If it wasn't about angels and demons, it was about food, music, or where to stay. It got tiring quickly.

Thus, at this point, Castiel was tired of dancing around the facts. "When you kille-"

((OOC: Bump to Dean.))

Dean snapped into action and kicked Cas in the leg. "Dude...shut up." Eventually he would have to teach the angel how to lie.

"Are you kidding me?" Sam asked when Dean told him to leave Lilith alone. He paused for a minute to mull over what he'd said about her death triggering things. It was hard to process everything with the little bits of information that Dean was giving him. He'd trusted Ruby. Ruby had helped to start the apocalypse. He'd gone after Lilith, even though Dean told him not to. Lilith's death had triggered things.

Sam's eyes narrowed at Dean. "When I killed what?" Sam demanded, turning his full attention on Castiel. Given the context of their conversation there were two big contenders for the completion of that sentence. Either he'd killed Ruby or he'd killed Lilith. One would've been too late and the other one had set something big in motion.

Finally admitting defeat Dean just let his head drop into his hands. Fuck it, there was just no point and they really had bigger things to worry about. "When you killed Lilith that - along with a shit ton of other factors- released Lucifer." Happy Sam? Go on, make puppy eyes, go find a sweatshirt to hide in and some James Blunt to listen to.

Dean's confusing actions made Castiel wonder further about the nature of the word 'spoil'. It must have had something to do with the nature of it being told. He recalled more than one time which Dean acted just as confusingly.

This was a lot for Sam to digest. Hopefully none of this angelic interference with time. This trap seemed to be careless. Too many people, too many risks.

"What?" Sam snapped, looking between them. Dean wasn't meeting his eye and Castiel's face was a hard read, but he knew it wasn't a joke. A shiver worked down his spine as his stomach seemed to have dropped down below him into the booth. For a moment he couldn't speak, couldn't even think, and then everything fell into place and he was suddenly on his feet.

"I need some air," he said, his words tumbling over one another as he blindly started moving past booths towards the door in the middle of the building. Ruby had used him. He'd killed Lilith and started the apocalypse... Dean would follow him, or would he? He swallowed down the sick feeling rising from his stomach and called over his shoulder without actually looking at the two men in the booth. "I'll be back." With a jingling of the bell over the door he was gone.

"Fuck" Dean let his head droop yet again. He would go after Sam, of coarse he would. He was pretty damn sure he was physically incapable of leaving Sam by himself when the kid felt that crappy...he just needed a minute to collect his thoughts.

"That went well," he smiled weakly at the man sitting next to him.

Confused, Castiel looked over to Dean. "I thought it went very poorly."

Dean managed to hold in his laughter, leave it to Castiel to make him unintentionally laugh when things looked hopeless. "One day I swear I'll take the time to teach you sarcasm." With that he slapped his friend on the back and stood up on the bench, hopping out of the booth to find his stupid emo brother.

He took a deep breathe to calm himself down knowing Sam didn't need him pissed off right now and headed for the door.
