Day 1: Nearly Noon
WHO: Lexie Grey, Sherlock Holmes and OPEN to Pharmacy visitors!
WHAT: Scoping out the pharmacy
WHERE: The pharmacy, Duh.
WHEN: Nearly lunchtime

Crossing the street felt like it ought to be more dramatic. Like a car should have come barrelling down the road to knock her out or lightning should have struck. Nothing was ever this easy or ever this close in the last town. Everything was so much more spread out then instead of this little shopping district they had now. It felt even more wrong here for that.

There was a big glass door to pull open and bells on it to chime Lexie's entry, she stood there a few moments, holding the door for Sherlock as she squinted at the well stocked shelves. There were all manner of medications from what she could see. Though, again the labels were all so antiquated. Bright, cheerful, or sterile. There was no in between with packaging in the 50's apparently.

Once she was able, Lexie was walking in, her rubber soles squeaking just a touch on the lineoleum flooring.

"Well, welcome to the clinic," she said, looking over her shoulder at Sherlock. Oh, yeah, Lexie already had plans to live here. Try not to be too surprised. It's what she did before and it's what she'd do this time. Though, something told her it was unlikely that she'd find a locking room again - no, that had been too fortunate. Sliding back through the aisles she was on her way to the pharmacy counter at the back. It was wide open with well stocked shelves. The only locking door she could see was what looked like a storeroom. Well, that would have to do.

"I'm not seeing any cigarettes, though," she called, leaning over the counter and eventually climbing over.

Lexie wouldn't think anything of holding the door open. Why would she? It was the polite thing to do and more than that it was the nice thing. If not polite, Lexie was generally, well, nice. For better or worse, though, she wouldn't be paying too much attention to the wanderings of her anachronistic companion. No, she was far too interested in scoping out the space she had to use as a clinic.

"I'm going to need more exam space," she said off handedly. She supposed she could use the counter and bring in some curtains from the Five and Dime.

"It's the 1950's, cigarettes were everywhere." Question would be, what would bother Holmes more about that statement, that cigarettes intermingled with the medication or that she'd referred to the 1950's in the past tense? Well, only time would tell how the amazing detective would react to that.

Lexie, who had taken up residency on top of the counter was scribbling away in her journal. The sigh she gave eventually was quite dijected. "They don't remember," she said more to herself than him before shutting the book and looking Holmes over.

"What are the odds you know how to pick a lock?"

Cigarettes were everywhere? He would have liked the 1950s, he thought. He wasn't really up to wrestling with the temporal implications at that statement, though it did feel strange for well in his future to be this woman's past- or history, more likely. Holmes merely lifted his eyebrows in response to the statement and let it go.

He heard her say "they" didn't remember, and given that she was looking in her journal he gathered she meant the other people scribbling in it that she recalled from being here before. He was starting to reach for his journal again to get an idea of how many people were here when she said something far more interesting.

"What are the odds you know how to pick a lock?"

Holmes grinned his manic, gleeful grin at her that was reserved for special moments of feeling both useful and clever. "The odds are in your favor, madam." With that Holmes returned to the makeup section and picked up a remarkable little thing called a 'manicure kit' which was full of three different tools he could use for lock picking. His eyes scanned for one other tool he would need. "It is simply a matter of finding the tools I need." He paused, "Although this is assuming that locks haven't changed very much in, what, seventy years progression?"

Holmes raised a finger to his lips in thought while walking along the isle. He came to ladies' hair care and grinned at all the protruding bits of metal that section had to offer. He made his choices and began to peel off the paper and plastic. "This is material I keep seeing is plastic, is it not? I'm stunned at the quantity of it in use. I remember reading about the revelation of the substance in a paper. The inventor's plan was to make billiard balls I think. I hadn't a chance to encounter it myself but I distinctly remember the qualities of it. Much improved now."

By the time he'd finished rambling on he was at the counter and he nodded to the storeroom door. "Why do you assume it's locked?"

Lexie watched as her companion set off in a direction all his own. Holmes wasn't a child or a puppy so the surgeon didn't particularly feel a need to follow him. She'd just let him go - especially since he appeared so excited about it.

"I don't know much about locks..." Really she only knew what she'd read in Nancy Drew books when she was ten. "A casing and some tumblers... that's about it, right?" Lexie was looking around again, disappointed not to find at least a couch or something. No, just a bunch of folding chairs where people were supposed to wait for their prescriptions. Bummer.

"I assume it's locked because they never give you what you really want easily." Chew on that later, Holmes. Lexie, with typical confidence strode up to the door, took the handle and tried to turn it. Sure enough, locked up good and tight.

"Up for the challenge?"

"Tumblers; good. It may take me a while longer depending on how complicated the mechanism, but I think I may stand a fair chance." He walked up beside her and then crouched before the lock. He'd seen locks that looked like this one in his time- but the similarities on the outside didn't matter as much as the similarities within. He spent a few minutes bending and unbending bobby pins and snap clips. He made a few careful bends at the tips of the metal with his teeth. Once an arsenal was laid out before him he set to work. Everything else around him slid out of his focus and all his attention was on the task at hand. He didn't pay attention to where Ms. Lexie stood or if she said anything else to him; it was time to work.

Slide the torque in- catch, then apply pressure. Hold. Slide second piece in and check... five tumblers. Third to last the highest set. They feel as though they are on springs.

Holmes took a calm, steady breath through his nose. His left hand held a tweaked hair clip in place, while the right hand held a carefully shaped bobby pin like a tiny pencil. His fingers moved in slight, precise motions until finally he twisted the clip with his left hand and a very soft 'click' came from the lock. He repeated the process and gradually made his way through it. Minutes passed but the bolt eventually gave with a satisfying 'chunk!' sound. Holmes smiled triumphantly and stood.

"It is a pleasure when one is reassured of their usefulness." He had worried that he was entirely out of his element- simply an old relic with little skills to be applied to anything from this new time. Thankfully, he had lived in an age that was the turning point for modern Western society and things were not quite as different as they appeared at first glance.

He was pleased to note that it was his turn to open the door for the lady and he did so.
