Entry tags:day 1: reboot, location: thrift store, remy lebeau, the doctor (ten)

WHO: The Tenth Doctor and OPEN
WHAT: Wandering. Excitedly.
WHERE: Coming up main street toward the shopping district
WHEN: 12:36
RATING:
PG to start... it all depends on who turns up

STATUS: Complete

The Doctor had woken up just past 9AM, a bit earlier than some. He'd been laying in the middle of an asphalt road, his shoulders and feet lined up with the double yellow lines that ran it's length. When he sat up with a spinning head and what he worried might be the start of a headache he squinted. There was nothing to see. Nothing at all. Some trees, maybe and the back of a billboard.

In his long coat and trainers the Doctor was up and running.. err, walking. He'd come around the sign and look it over. <i>"All this and more...</i> The sign looked like it was from Earth in the 1950's. Why would somebody drag him here? Oh, yes, he thought drag because he hadn't just landed in his TARDIS. He hadn't brought himself here or landed due to an ill plotted course. No, somebody had taken him off of his ship and dropped him here.

Literally dropped, apparently because he had a soreness to his neck that wasn't quite right.

"So where am I, then?" He looked back and forth, up and down the road, expecting to see a car sooner or later. He kept walking, kept glancing and never saw one. Not an automobile or a motorcycle. In fact, he didn't hear them, either, as he got closer to the town. Where was he?

So, up that two lane road the Doctor would walk past the petrol station, noting nobody was there and keep on moving on his way toward what looked like a tiny shopping district. He'd stand a ways off, his arms crossed, frowning for just a few moments. This didn't feel right. And then it clicked, this <i>didn't feel right</i>, and that was when he would start to grin just a little. An adventure and a puzzle rolled up into one. So, he was kidnapped, he'd figure out why and put it straight just as soon...

Quick steps took John Smith right up to the television shop where he stood tapping the glass. Then he pressed his ear to it and tapped. Then just his ear. Then tapped again. Oh, this was weird.

"No? Are you a fan, then?" The Doctor had fans, he tried not to encourage them. That Cajun-laced frown didn't lend any currency to fandom, though.

"Last time?" Oh, goodness, now the stranger had him perplexed. "Are we in a time loop?" Oh, that would make sense, wouldn't it. It would also be terrible. And annoying. It'd be tedious. He'd have to find the mechanism responsible and then shut it down. Then he'd have to.. Oh, that still felt exciting. Doctor's excitement quotient: sitting at a solid seven out of ten.

He was thinking about the fact that they weren't on earth, even though it looked so much like the place. And then he heard those two words from the Cajun.

"I'm sorry, could you say that again? Who's here?" Because that was impossible. She was off living in a parallel dimension, thank you very much.

"Non, I ain' y' fan." That came with a little smirk and he pushed off of the staff and stepped forward. "Non, no time loop. I 'member it. Was five years f' me. I ain' in uh loop."

Then the Doctor recognized that name and Gambit couldn't help the little pang in his chest. The Time Lord remembered her. "Rose Tyl'r. Lil' blon'e, real cute, perky.." He tucked his staff into the crook of his arm and placed his hands in front of his chest, making a 'breast' motion there. "..nose." Yeah, as if he hadn't meant 'breasts' by the way he was gesturing with his hands.

"Y' 'member her, non?" Why didn't you remember him, Doctor?

"Oh." Not a fan. Not a time loop. "Well, maybe your loop is just set to a different frequency than mine." His arms crossed, feeling a bit obstinate.

"Rose Tyler?" Oh, that question came quick with the Doctor looking like he'd stepped on a live wire. "Where?" Brown eyes were whipping left and right. It'd been three months since the scene on Bad Wolf Bay. Three months didn't really seem like a long time to mourn. Obviously it wasn't because mere mention of Rose had him all jittery.

"Where is she? If she's hurt..." He chose not to make mention of the strangers motions or mention of her perkiness.

"If someone's hurt her..." Oh, there was a not so idle threat there as the Doctor took a few very quick steps closer. "Well?"

"I dunno where she is." The Cajun frowned as the Doctor stepped in, as if threatening. Oh, he didn't like this one little bit. "Jus' talke' t' her in 'de book. 'De.. journal y' got. Y' wri'e in it an' people can see wha' y' wro'e. She 'members me." He could tell, of course, because she hadn't been enthused to talk to him. He couldn't really blame her.

"Sure she's fine, homme. Everyone here's fine when 'dey show up. Ain' 'til 'dey been here uh day or two 'dat 'dey star' bein' less 'den fine." The red-head swayed back a little and then took a step away, spinning his staff once before turning and moving towards the grocery, across the street. He needed a shopping cart.

"In the book?" He shook the little box he had in his hand. He hadn't opened it, maybe now was the time. There was a book inside alright. One etched not with 'Doctor' but with Gallifreyan glyphs. That made him frown. He turned the pages open to all manner of scrawling within. Notes, it appeared.

The brunette just hung there, reading all the notes and warnings.

There it was, though; his Rose's handwriting. He'd know it anywhere.

"How long ago did she write this?" He called across the street. The Doctor still didn't realize how the contraption functioned, at the moment the writings were still.

"Oi?" He was picking up his pace to follow the stranger across the street. "How long?"

"Dunno, two hours? Lil more? Y' frien-- non, 'de.. 'de ot'er you, wit' 'de bad attitu'e an' 'de big ears, he's here too. Saw him in 'de diner. Didn' know me eit'er. I dunno wha's goin' on here, bu' I don' really like it. Mebbe y' don' member me 'cause he don'?" Oh, his head hurt just thinking about it. Across the street and into the grocery, he was shoving open the doors and was moving straight for a metal shopping cart. Snagged up, he set his staff in it and was moving back out the doors again, across the street.

"Las' time, he wasn' so fon' uh me." You were, though, Doctor. At least for some of the time you were.

"Two hours," he pondered, standing still with the book in his hands. He wasn't really looking at it and it'd be a few moments before he snapped it shut.

"My friend?" To the best of the Doctor's knowledge he didn't have any friends matching that description. He thought about it a few moments more. "Does my friend have a name?" Had you signed up for this, Remy? The Doctor was looking at the red head like he was a stranger - and to him he was.

"What's your name?" He asked this a bit more gently, his attention whipping around a little as he tried to think of where in the world his companion could be. It went against his better judgment to just start calling out for her, so he didn't. No, the brunette was just picking a direction - one that took him further into the town, and he started walking in it. He had to run into the blonde sooner or later.

Black and red eyes came up again when the Doctor questioned him about his 'friend'. Then they rolled but a grin appeared on his face. "Oui, y' idi't. He's you, tol' y' 'dat. He's 'de.. nint' one. 'De regenera'ion 'fore 'de one y' are now. Y' ot'er face." His eyebrows went up some as he said that.. but then the Doctor was asking what his name was.

And perhaps he might have answered, but as he watched the Doctor walk away from him, he thought better of it and turned his eyes back onto the TV shop in front of him. He had more important things to do right now.

The brunette clearly wasn't paying attention. Even the phrase 'the other you' and 'he's you' didn't quite sink in. He'd just been told that his Rose was here and by some stroke of good fortune he could find her. Theta Sigma was just about ready to start jumping out of his own skin. Sorry, Cajun.

Eventually, the Doctor would make it far enough down the street and he'd find himself alone. The red head apparently hadn't followed. That was bucking the curve, wasn't it?

He hadn't even gotten the other man's name. The thought made the Doctor frown a little, but he had other things on his mind - like his plucky blonde assistant formerly lost to a parallel universe. That and figuring out why this place had been called a prison.
