Day 1

Who: Lexie Grey and Sherlock Holmes
What: Waking up in Vas Captio
Where: The Church
When: 10:15AM
Rating: Likely PG

Four hours ago Lexie Grey had fallen asleep in the on call room at Seattle Grace. Wrapped up in a blanket that felt more like wool than cotton and sheets that had probably been in service since she was in high school, Lexie fell asleep with her pager next to her head and a relative level of comfort.Waking up on a wooden pew in a much-too-bright church wasn't exactly what Lexie would have expected. In fact, if she would have known what was going to happen once she fell asleep, Alexandra Grey would have never, ever gone to sleep at all. She would have made herself stay awake. However, laying there with her eyes on familiar rafters did nothing to calm Lexie Grey.

Problem was, she remembered falling asleep in Seattle Grace - but she remembered before that. Problem was, nothing about Lexie Grey's memory was vague. Photographic memory was not a good thing in this case. There wasn't anything to dull the edges, nothing to make this all feel better.

Rolling off the edge of the pew, Lexie groaned a little, feeling stiff. She stood there, looking over the familiar space. There at the end of the pew was the familiar box, Vas Captio, on the otuside and she was sure she knew what would be on the inside.

'Hello?" She said tentatively, voice coming out a bit too quiet for her own good. She didn't see anyone else there with her, but that didn't mean there wasn't. Lexie knew better than to assume anything about this place. She'd reach out and pick up the box, not opening it yet. How did she wind up here again? Why?

Hold it together, Doctor Grey, everything was going to be okay.

"My dear woman, I am not the type to believe in fanciful things- and yet, it seems as though all is not as it should be here." He set his fingers on her arm, just behind her elbow, the touch faint enough to allow her to move away if it caused her discomfort. He began to guide her away from the pews.

"I'm most impressed that you are a surgeon. I've known few women with the constitution for such things and none had the means or opportunity to actually pursue the trade." He wondered about Watson momentarily, but there were more important issues to occupy his mind.

"You apparently woke up unexpectedly in this place as I have done. Pray, tell me what you last remember before being here, what you remember about this place, and what you mean when you say "We did not know where it was."

Fanciful? His dear woman? Welcome to the modern age, Holmes, this was all totally un-PC. Lexie, though, didn't show any signs of discomfort, and she'd let that other man attempt to guide her away from the pews. There wasn't really far to go, though. They'd wind up a bit nearer to the door with Lexie turning inward to the other man, resisting the urge to cross her arms.

"You're definitely not from where I'm from..." Lexie said with a shake of her head. Oh, there had been people from all over the place. All over time. She didn't know how to explain that so she just looked down at her shoes for a moment.

"We were trapped there. Here. We couldn't get out. The town didn't have a name and it was all run down. It's hard to tell where you are when you're trapped inside a giant cage." That was putting it gently.

Holmes stepped back respectfully and observed. "Which is America, no doubt. I happen to be fond of American women." Most English gentlemen found the ways of American women to be quite low and crass. The attitudes and independence were intimidating. Holmes, however, saw most parties as equals and an impressive woman was an impressive person to him. He meant the comment as a gesture of respect.

On the issue of being trapped, Holmes offered, "This is a prison?" He pondered all manner of gates and fortresses, perhaps a great moat. There is always a way out, it is simply a matter of finding it. Looking to the door, Holmes wondered what the outside had in store for him.

"If you were here before and back again, how did you come to leave the first time?"

"Seattle," She smiled in confirmation. Except, well, that last bit? About being fond of American women? That sounded suspiciously like how men in a bar would say they liked blondes. "Well, I'm sure I'm not exactly the sort of American woman you're expecting." Because she was looking Holmes over, taking in his attire and his mode of speech. No, Holmes was really not in Kansas anymore.

"It's a prison," she turned, actually taking the opportunity to push the door open. She was going to go out there and see if her friends were here - and hopefully Holmes would follow.

"Open up your journal," she said, nodding to his box as she turned to step out of the church and onto the sidewalk. She squinted a little at the the brightness. Well, at least they had nice weather.

"Is there any writing yet?" She was sort of hoping for a map. This place wasn't familiar, though. Not from what she could tell. She thought she knew it from the rafters and the church - but everything was out of place. The forest wasn't as dense and oddly enough everything looked new.

He wasn't used to the people around him taking charge, but he didn't mind it so far. He opened the box and plucked out the journal, wondering what she meant by "yet."

Once outside a building he opened his journal and observed the pages. "It's blank. Is anything in yours?" The forest was thick, full of thin, twisting trees. He'd never been terribly fond of nor adverse to nature, but he didn't like what he saw and couldn't explain why. Nothing seemed overtly wrong, though it bothered him that he really couldn't place the architecture of the church.

Nor could he place the architecture of the strange building he noticed to his left. "What on Earth is that?" He asked as he started to wander across the street. It looked like a squat playhouse, but again it didn't look quite right. The whole business was quite puzzling and starting to unsettle him.

She moved along confidently, reaching into the pocket to pull out her journal and her pen. "Watch," she said, starting to write her entry. She'd get two or three words in, confident that they'd show up in Sherlock's journal in no time.

Lexie, for her part, looked a bit annoyed at the architecture as well. That theater wasn't as she'd recalled. It wasn't run down. It wasn't busted to bits. No, it was new and shining.

"It's a movie theater," she said distractedly, looking at the blank marquis. She slowed up, waiting for the eventual reaction from Holmes. "I know. It's weird." She was speaking of the journal. "I have no idea how it works." It just did. It always had.

Before Holmes really had a moment to register the appearing ink in his journal his attention was taken. "Movie?" What exactly is a movie?" He shook his head and went back to the journal. A few words were scrawled at the top. He rubbed his eyes, filled with confusion and frustration.

"I know. It's weird." She was speaking of the journal. "I have no idea how it works." It just did. It always had.

"I think I must be dreaming. Or perhaps I have finally gone mad. No other explanation soothes my logical mind." He opened his jacket to reach for his cigarette case and frowned to find it missing. He patted down his pockets and found nearly all of them empty. The only thing left was the pocket watch in his vest and the tiny compass at the other end of it's chain. He curiously checked the time. Just after 10, and the sun's position certainly agreed- how strange that his watch would be correct.

He turned to Ms. Lexie with theatrical bravado and lifted his chin. "I should like to see if we can find anyone else as well as a cigarette."

"A film?" Oh... goodness. No movies?

Lexie frowned for a second or so. She looked at the buidling and thought carefully. "Photographs, you have those, don't you? When you take a bunch of photographs one after another you can capture motion.. And.." Wait, was she really explaining a movie?

She stopped when the other man started calling himself mad. She'd take the few steps to close up the gap between them and she'd put her hand on the other's bicep, a comforting sort of motion.

"It's strange. Probably even more for you." She looked down the road. "If we can find the gas station I'm sure we'll find you a cigarette." She looked left and right and down the road that sprawled out in front of them. "It's going to get more weird than this," she felt like she was telling him he had cancer. "So, you're just going to have to trust me tha you're sane and that this is all very real." She'd never met someone fresh in before. She never wanted to do it again.

Leave the welcoming to Sam and Andy.

Holmes immediately tensed at her touch. He wasn't threatened, he just simply wasn't used to anyone touching him. The moment passed quickly, and he relaxed. She was saying things he still didn't understand like whatever a gas station was. There was so much to learn and understand about this strange new place. He was used to having everything understood after years of learning the smallest details, but this was something separate from all that.

About now, with his hands so tied, the only thing he truly wanted to do was get to where Ms. Lexie thought cigarettes might be. "I will put myself in your hands- as there is little else for me to do- and once I can become of some use my full attention will go to that end."
