Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Rose Tyler and Ianto Jones
What: Being darling
When: Day 30, early afternoon
Where: The gym
Rating: PG...ish
Status: Active

Rose hadn't hesitated when she'd read that Ianto was awake, speaking, and in the gym hoping for company. And she had to admit, it didn't hurt that there was an offer of food, there, too. Food her sweet Jack had already tested and verified was okay.

Granted, she hadn't really wanted to see anyone, or talk to anyone for that matter. She'd said what little she thought she could manage just trying to find out what had happened to Ianto. And to Sarah Jane, but that was different. She could relate to the older woman, the one who'd travelled with her Doctor long before she had. She seemed to have answers and concern when no one else did. With Sarah Jane, Rose didn't mind admitting what had happened in that locker room. The others...it would likely be a bit.

Ianto, though, she at least felt like she could trust. That and, having already gone through an awful experience of his own, he wasn't likely to ask a lot of questions. And she figured he probably needed a friend just then.

Rose arrived in the gym, familiar territory to her by now, pausing only briefly by her usual sleeping spot to grab her journal and her blankets before heading over to the clinic area of the gymnasium. When she saw the tired but very alive looking Ianto, she gave a bittersweet smile. "Hey, you," she said, dropping on to the bed beside his after leaning down to press the lightest of kisses against his cheek. "I hate to break it to you, but you look like hell."

Rose knew blokes well enough to know he wanted to talk about something else. Anything else. He wanted to distract her and get her mind elsewhere, and she was okay with that. Mostly because she herself had no urge to talk about the events this place had forced on them.

"Cannibals, huh?" she asked teasingly, looking him over. "I've never thought Welsh was all that great, a little too rich. Scots are no better, it's all about the Irishmen if you're going to eat a bloke." Playfully, she winked down at him, grateful to be lightening the mood.

"Rich? You haven't met many Welshmen, then, have you?" Relief flooded across his face to be changing the topic entirely, and the tension in Ianto's shoulders drained a bit. He pat at her knee and nodded as best he could towards the enticing smells. It was kinda hard, since he was laying down.

"Have you eaten yet? I .. don't remember if I asked you yet or not."

Rose grinned at his comment. "It's all that Welsh food," she pointed out. "You're not kidding me, Jones, you're full of strong tea and gravy. But I'll forgive you if there's chips involved."

When he asked, she laid a hand on his arm with a smile. "I'll eat eventually," she reassured. Truth was, the idea of eating half of what was laid out turned her stomach. She knew she should take advantage, they'd likely never get a spread like this again. But she was sick just thinking about it. "I wonder if there's soup. It's freezing out there. Well. Sort of." When she was just dressed in a hooded sweatshirt with a tear in it, it counted as cold.

"I'm full of coffee, normally," he protested lightly and slipped his hand over to grip at Rose's fingers. "Possibly Thai food." No innuendo, for once, but then sex was the last thing on Ianto's mind.

Ianto shook his head a bit and loosened his grip on Rose's hand, just slightly. "I can't tell, under blankets. I .. I know. It's hard to think of food. But it's there, we have to eat when its offered. Besides, if you don't eat, you won't be curvy anymore. I love curvy women."

"Mmm, Thai food," Rose commented with a slightly goofy look on her face. Ianto should consider himself lucky. That was an expression most people wouldn't get from her. "If they had a good coconut curry or some Pad Thai noodles, then I might think about eating and actually enjoy it."

She fell silent for a few brief moments, trying to think of what should go next. To be honest, from what Sarah Jane and Jack had told her, she didn't want Ianto thinking through the painkillers to remember what he'd been through. And she didn't particularly want to talk about her own experiences. So she forced a conspicuous grin. "So tell me about these cannibals. Were they cute, at least? Try to lure you into a hot and sexy trap before trying to devour you in a non-sensual way?"

She would ask him that, though it was his own fault for having brought it up in the first place. Mentally, he couldn't help but draw parallels between this place and the decrepit little town in the Beacons. Though the company was a lot nicer, he had to admit. For one, he didn't have to play 'Who Did You Snog Last'. Ianto sighed and shifted a bit, restless in his cot, and made a face.

"No, not in the least. Two were middle aged and sort of .. round. Not that round or middle aged is bad. The man had teeth that looked like mud, oozing and all, and they both looked like they might know what soap was, but it wasn't certain. No hot and sexy traps for me. And we were all afraid to eat hamburgers, because of the hepatitis." Ianto blinked up at Rose, wondering if any of that actually made sense.

"The burgers weren't made from people," he added, as an afterthought. "At least, I don't think. Er."

Rose's nose wrinkled at the idea, more than a little disgusted. And yet... "I think I ran into their distant cousins," she joked, pushing her hair back over her shoulder as she leaned in. It was almost as if she were sharing a huge secret, which she kind of was. A little bit. Most people she didn't run around blabbing about her travels to. Here, though, she opened up more. Maybe because most everyone around had done weird things of their own. "Someday, they'll have a planet of their very own, that lot. Still won't know soap. Or a toothbrush, for that matter. And they say the British are bad!"

How they could be gossiping like girlfriends when he was so injured and she was scared to death was beyond her, but Rose had to go with it. Jack would kill her if he thought she'd hurt Ianto in any way. Or at least set her loose in the forest to fend for herself. "But just to be on the safe side? I think I'll skip the burgers. What was that movie? Soiling green is people?"
