Day 29, morning
Who: Ianto Jones and Elliot Reid
What: Triage in the gym
Where: The gym!
When: Day 29 - Morning
Rating: PG?
Status: Active.

He was warm. That was the first thing he noticed, rising to the surface of consciousness like a bubble in murky liquid. He was warm. He was covered in something soft. And he hurt. Nothing was making sense, nothing was connecting the dots, not at first.

But when his memory finally spat out the crystal clear details --bloodpainconversionjacklaughingandcryingdoctorflashingsilverknivescomingforhimohgodohgodOHGOD -- Ianto shot upright in his bed and cried out, loudly, before falling back limply again. He was oozing from what felt like a hundred cuts (it was far far less than that) and he was groping frantically at the top of his head, feeling for a scar or a slice or anything to let him know that his brain was still there. No, really, he was. Ianto wasn't currently playing with a full deck. He'd calm down eventually, but at the moment, he wasn't doing so hot.

At least she didn't laugh at him. That was something. Ianto looked down at the hands holding him and carefully pulled his own hands away and lay them at his sides. His fingers plucked nervously at the blanket and he couldn't still them. After a moment, he gave up trying.

"Ianto Jones. It's .. just us in here?" It seemed more silent than it should have. And this normally was a hub of activity. Sort of. "I.. hate to say this, Doctor Ried, but if you need to stitch something, you're going to have to knock me out." Stitching. His fingers tightened even more on the blankets at the thought of someone coming at him with something sharp. Again. His breath started coming short and hard and it was fairly obvious he was having a panic attack, even if it was a quiet one. "..Could we just use glue or something?"

"Looks like it," Elliot said, her voice sounding almost apologetic as she glanced around the empty Gym. It was creepy, waking up and being the only people in the gym where the majority of Vas residents slept at night. She also couldn't help but wonder why Lexie wasn't there. They had a patient and for some reason whoever was in charge picked her instead of the woman who had put the clinic together. Her stomach clenched nervously at the thought of what might have happened to her friend and fellow doctor.

Elliot gave him a sympathetic nod when he said she would have to knock him out. She slid her hand in her pocket, retrieving the needle she'd prepared in anticipation of him wanting something stronger. She'd honestly thought the pain from the injuries themselves would've been enough to warrant something strong, but the supplies were scarce enough that she'd felt the need to gauge it first. "Hey, it's okay," she said, her voice low and hopefully calming as she reached out to put a hand over one of his. "Ianto, it's okay. No one's going to hurt you. Deep breaths, okay. In, out. In, out. I'm going to give you something for the pain and when you wake up, I'll have you stitched up. How does that sound?"

The powers that be were fucking with them all, simple enough. It's why Elliot was here, dispite her insecurities and why Ianto was here, a bleeding wreck. Oddly, knowing this gave him a bit of strength, even if he wanted to run around screaming at the thought of needles anywhere near his skin. His fingers tightened on hers, drawing on the comfort she offered. "Sounds good, Elliot," he said tightly, trying to control his breathing. Control. S'all he needed. He's been through worse.

At least this time no one wanted to make hamburgers out of him.

"Thank you. Very much. I'm a shit patient, I know." Ianto shut his eyes tight so he wouldn't have to see the needle coming at him. It's got drugs in it, Jones, he told himself. You want drugs right now. Really.

Elliot gave a small laugh when he said he was a shit patient and shook her head. "No, you're not," she assured him, moving her hand up to his elbow in order to find the vein. She looked down at his face and his shut eyes and gave a small sigh before breaking the skin and injecting the anesthetic.

She withdrew the needle as quickly as she could. "There," she said quietly. "It shouldn't take long." She stepped back to put the syringe down and looked back at him. "Ianto," she said slowly, hesitating for a moment. "What happened to you?"

She really didn't want to know, but if Vas had taught her anything it was that she needed to be prepared for anything.
