Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Elliot Reid and Andy Gallagher, mention of Nine
What: One hysterical pregnancy, coming up.
When: Day 28, morning
Where: The library
Rating: Definite R for excessive fricks
Status: Complete

Elliot's breath was coming quick as she stared down at the pieces of paper clutched in her hand.  This couldn't be happening.  This couldn't be happening.  Her eyes moved over the words on the page for the hundredth time as she tried to take them in.  She shook her head and moved towards the desk a few feet away where a pregnancy test with double lines stared up at her.  "Frick," she whispered as she stared down at it, moving her hand down to the front of her shirt and feeling the small, but unmistakable budge there.

Her mind was spinning as she struggled to accept the fact that somehow she was two months pregnant.  The lab test estimated her to be at eight weeks, which meant that there was a baby inside of her approximately the size of a kidney bean.  The thought of a kidney bean made her think of JD's three alarm chili and the burning sensation in her chest she'd had the one and only time she'd ever tried it.  Elliot clamped her mouth shut as her stomach lurched and she leaned against the desk.

"This can't be happening," Elliot whispered to herself as she shut her eyes and tried to stop thinking of chili, or what a mess she'd make if she actually let her stomach win, which only made it lurch again.

Andy's eyes went wide at the squeaky, high pitched voice with which Elliot screeched back at him and he held his hands up defensively. "Okay, first of all? Breathe," he said, sounding as taken aback as he looked. He'd seen Elliot horny, relaxed, happy, sad, and completely broken, but apparently, he'd never seen her panicked. That was, until just that moment. ...and he wasn't quite sure what to make of it. "Second of all, it's really not that bad. I'm gonna get us out of here, okay? And I'm gonna take care of you. Well, you...plural..." Andy gestured with one hand between her face and her stomach. While the sentiment was sincere, the tone was awkward at best. Andy might not be anywhere near ready to be a father and he had plenty of reservations about what kind of freak his offspring would someday be, but he was willing to take on the responsibility in full.

...and then Elliot went on talking and Andy's face went slack. He was torn between relieved and disappointed, but he looked dumbfounded. "Two months?" he asked. "...it's...not mine, then..." he blurted out reflexively. Then, as soon as he realized that he'd said it out loud, his eyes widened again. "But I'll still help you out. That's what friends are for. You know? Until you can tell JD or, you know, whoever..." His eyes shifted from left to right as his brow furrowed. "I didn't mean it to come out like that," he added quickly. When he'd said it the way he had, once he'd had time to process the words again, he realized that it sounded like he was implying that she'd slept with God only knew how many people when he hadn't meant it to be an insult at all.

Elliot went on to point out that her boobs would be bigger if she was pregnant and pulled her shirt taut, asking him if they looked bigger to him. Tipping his head slightly to the right, Andy raised his eyebrows. Should he be honest or would she flip her shit if he told her they did? "...yes?" he asked more than confirmed. "I mean, no? Kinda?" he quickly tried to backpedal, because the more he looked at her chest, the less he was sure. His brow knit heavily as he looked back up at her. "E, I don't know, I'm usually too busy groping and burying my face in them to look, I'll be honest with you," he admitted ashamedly.

"Breathe?" Elliot practically exhaled, her eyebrows shooting up. Of course she knew she was going into crazy mode. She knew that Andy was right, she needed to calm down and think things through logically. She needed to separate herself from the issue and look at it objectively. As if it was someone else's problem and not hers...but she couldn't. "Andy!" She said, screwing up her face. "I'm pregnant for frick's sake!" She listened to him as he said he was going to take care of her, plural, and for a moment her face relaxed and her hand went up to her chest to cover her heart. It wasn't exactly what she'd been expecting to hear in a time like this, but it was sweet. So sweet, especially since the kid wasn't even his. Or was it? Elliot's face tensed again. Two months ago had been when she'd been dating Jake. Was she carrying Jake's child? But she wasn't even pregnant yesterday, so she couldn't possibly be carrying Jake, Jr. Her most recent sex partner was standing right in front of her looking suddenly dumbfounded at the news that she was two months along.

Elliot's eyes narrowed as she read his expression and her heart sank when he said it wasn't his like he was relieved. Not that she wanted to put that kind of responsibility on him, but did he have to look like he'd just dodged a bullet? "I don't know!" Elliot said, for some insane reason not wanting to let him off the hook that easily. "You've seen what this place can do. Maybe it's an accelerated pregnancy or...I don't know." He said he'd still be there but it was put out there like an afterthought, and JD's name was mentioned and Elliot felt her chest constrict. "No," she said, suddenly looking lost. She hadn't even thought of JD as a possibility until then. Jake, JD, Andy. Elliot closed her eyes and shook her head.

Elliot looked up at Andy as he started to backpedal about her boobs. She wasn't losing it,was she? They were bigger. There was a bump where her usually flat stomach was. She could feel the waist of her skirt tighter around her waist. Frustrated, Elliot reached down and pulled up her shirt. "What about now? Look at my stomach," she said, desperately needing confirmation that she wasn't making this up. "Andy," she said, meeting his eyes. "I think it's real. I think this is really happening. It's not supposed to happen this way," she said, her eyes begging him to do something. "I mean there's supposed to be prenatal vitamins, sonograms, I'm supposed to have a frickin' glow!" She moved closer to him. "And there's an epidural, Lamaze classes, Baby Gap...a husband, or at least significant other." She sniffed, feeling the tears building up. "I can't do this."
