It Was a Lie When They Smiled, and Said "You Won't Feel a Thing"
Who: Jack Harkness, Tonks, and Edward
What: Experiment of cuts and lacerations against everyone's will except management.
Where: The Gym
When: Day 28.
Rating: PG-13 for angst and blood.
Status: Active, ongoing

Edward waited outside the gym for something. What it was, his simple mind and limited vocabulary couldn't quite place, but he knew that it was important for him to refrain from entering the gym until he was supposed to. Somehow, he did know what was going to happen once Jack Harkness arrived with Tonks. He would need to hurt her, and make her bleed. He thought of the ways he'd do this, which of his blades he'd use, how much blood was likely to come from each laceration.

"I'll start with staring at her. Then I will continue with her arms. Then, after that, I'll cut her legs. I'll cut her face next. Then I'll cut her hands. Then, after that, I'll count the drops of blood." Edward said all of this with a blank face reminiscent of his early days after his creation by the inventor. Then, the seventh sentence he uttered was accompanied by a frightened change of expression and a soft sniffling.

"I don't want to do this..."

Jack, however, wasn't listening. He had two jobs today: to escort Tonks to where she had to be and to take Ianto where he had to be. He would have to go back and forth between the two but Jack knew his time would be spent making sure nothing bad happened to Ianto. Not that he could stop it if he wanted to. But Jack was masochistic enough to want to stay there and watch even if his hands were completely tied.

"Can't," Jack said, dragging Tonks as they walked. Jack saw Edward and nodded to him, that part of his brain registering that this was where he had to take Tonks. Didn't matter what was going to happen to her, though his eyes flicked down to look at the scissor-like hands. This wasn't going to be pretty. Why on earth did the management want to put them through all of this? It made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

"We are here and this is your charge," Jack said, nodding in Tonks's direction. He ignored her pleadings. If it was this hard to listen to her... Jack drew in a breath, swallowing hard. He had to keep to the ratio. "You know your instructions. I will be by periodically to ensure all is going according to plan." Jack closed his eyes for a brief moment, then opened them. "Where is the table?"

She stared at Edward, crestfallen. "They got you too." Of course they did, because Edward wouldn't have been at all like this. Not normally. Neither would Jack. She jerked against the Captain again after listening to the robotic talk. Table? Oh no. Nonono.

Tonks twisted, looking between the two men petulantly. "I know you're in there! Fight it, dammit." She planted her feet in the ground, hoping that it would keep her from whatever was going to go on, but was dragged over toward the table anyway.

Now was the time to worry about herself. Especially with the straps. It was something out of a horror movie. Tonks was more of a comedy fan, though. She tried to take a swing, such as it was, at Jack. The woman with the drained-out white hair didn't want to hit anyone..but she wasn't exactly going to cry over it either. Not if it got her out of here.

Edward nodded slowly. He did know his instructions and duties. He pointed one of his heavy shears toward the table, watching dispassionately as Tonks was taken toward the table and strapped down to it.

He knew very well that disobeying was not an option. For now, it was a greater truth than the fact that he actually likes Tonks. "Don't fight," he warned Tonks quietly, as his apparent partner, Jack, started to strap his friend down on the table. His scissors flexed and whispered against each other as he approached the table with his usual stiff, tottering gait.

The first cut was deep and long, drawing a fair amount of blood. Edward, powerless to stop it, stared stonily at Tonks before glancing back at Jack for approval.

The spritely woman continued to fight up until she was strapped down on the table, and fought even after that. Granted, it was futile and she knew that. But that didn't mean that she'd give up just yet.

The straps, of course, were much stronger than a person would be. So she was held down and only squirming when Edward came closer. "Edward. Lambie. C'mon, it's me Tonks!" It was odd how they knew exactly who she was but whatever had Edward and Jack mindswiped was so strong.

"I--Ow!" She was going to say something but cried out sharply when the scissors sliced into her skin and blood flowed freely afterward. It hurt like a bitch, causing tears to pop up in her eyes, and Tonks couldn't cover the wound thanks to being strapped down.

"Edward, please." Please fight this.

Tonks' heartfelt pleas would doubtless move Edward, on any other day, during any other experiment. The man was quick to love, and hate or malice were virtually unknown to him. Even what he was doing now was far from a demonstration of ill intentions. It was bewildered, unquestioning obedience, but he didn't mean to harm his friend. It just felt right. So right, in fact, that it was the only correct thing to do. Even when Tonks' skin tore, Edward's expression didn't change. "You should stay still," he said in his usual quiet voice. The first cut had been to his friend's arm, and now he was continuing with her legs, cutting long gashes deeply and with the same distant expression that would suggest chopping vegetables.
