Reid paused at the shelves again, staring up at them. A series of vines had wrapped themselves around the wooden stacks, spreading across the books and strangling them. Very Jurassic Park. Reid hadn't really been a huge fan of those movies; action-horror wasn't exactly his favourite genre, and the plot was a little strange, though reasonably well thought out. Maybe he would compare it to Jumanji instead; now, that had been a fun movie.
Something caught his eye, and he reached out to grab one of the books off the shelves, ignoring the way the mouldy damp cover pressed wetly against his hand. He'd been reading this book when he'd left to take his mother back to Vegas; it had been in his satchel on the plane, though he hadn't had the stomach or attention span to continue with it after everything that had happened. Still awed, he gingerly eased the book open and began to flick carefully through the mouldy pages, ignoring the stench and suddenly realizing that touching mould probably wasn't a great idea. He would find somewhere to wash his hands after, and until then he would just have to make a conscious effort not to bite his nails.
He was so absorbed in the book that he didn't hear anyone moving around until Kimberly opened her mouth and spoke. The voice startled him and he literally jumped, the book dropping from his hands and slamming into the floor by his feet, the sound echoing. His head snapped up and he stared with wide eyes, deer in headlights. He quickly located the girl and froze in the middle of the library. She didn't look like much of a threat, and his mind quickly caught onto her fear and awkwardness given the way she was standing and the fact that she was hiding in the doorway. He relaxed a little.
"Um, sorry, I, I was just..." He motioned to the stacks beside him awkwardly before wiping his hands on his pants legs, smudging them a little with dirt. "I was just... looking around."
