Entry tags:!complete, day 26, location: church, remy lebeau, the doctor (ten)

Who: The Doctor and Gambit
What: Modulator pre-testing
Where: The Church
When: Day 26, 10AM
Rating: Likely PG

The modulator was mostly done. Cannibalized batteries had been linked together in a long chain. From the Doctor's best guess he could manage 50 bursts from them if he was lucky, 30 if he wasn't. That was a very limited testing phase, and that fact made the Time Lord very particular in how he tested his new machine. Moving it was a chore - it weighed nearly fifty pounds. Long, round and skinny, the damned thing was cumbersome with wires hanging off it - making it so the Doctor had to be very careful as he shifted it.

"Testing! Testing! In 3 - 2- 1--!" He called. He was alone in the church, but he still felt like he ought to be careful. That he should at least warn anybody in earshot that he could, in theory, blow out their ear drums. His ear drums? Well, that was a chance he was willing to take. Besides, unless the modulator backfired, he was behind the sound pulse and waves didn't typically travel backward.

Pressing down the button the machine propped on the Time Lord's hip began to hum rather dramatically and he looked at it with a concerned expression. He could feel the tube heating up against him. The Doctor winced as the pulse finally went off with a squeal and a boom, it's force shaking the wooden structure in front of him. The frequency, of course, hadn't been set for wood - no, it was for glass. But, at least now he knew the damned thing turned on. Forty-something more tests to go.

The Doctor couldn't help it, he was pleased with himself, and it showed on his expression.

He took that kiss reveled in it as much as conscience and fortitude would allow and then he felt the Cajun roll off of him, felt that bed shift a little.

This wasn't strange at all, this was something he knew the Cajun enjoyed, the Doctor in control. Usually, the Doctor did, too. It wasn't what he wanted right now, though. Not even a little. He was shifting, ready to roll the Cajun man back over, to tug him back when he felt those legs part and he found himself in unfamiliar water.

"No," he said firmly. He'd push up on his palms and shift one leg so it was outside. The short answer was that he could not do this. That he could not handle it and would not be humoring the Cajun man in this way.

None too carefully he was rolling off and out and away leaving the Time Lord feeling cold. "I owe you so much, but this?" His brows knitted up in a look of concern. "Not this..." Because the pose made him sick to his stomach. The entire situation made his skin tight and his brain freeze.

"Non." He insisted, once the Time Lord had rolled away and curled up next to him. He was dragging the blankets back up over their bodies and reaching out to cup the other man's cheek in a scarred hand. "Non, Docteur, you don' owe me not'in'. An' you ain' never gonna owe me sex, 'das no' how our frien'ship work." The insistence came with a bit of a tighter tone, like he was straining for the Doctor to understand.

"S'okay. We don' gotta." Though moments ago he'd just said how much he needed it. He needed to let this happen so he knew you wouldn't hurt him. But you were refusing, and he was giving in, giving up what he'd wanted so you didn't have to go through with it. It happened more often than people on the outside looking in would think. From the outside, it appeared very much that Remy always got his own way, all the time, with no exceptions.. it certainly wasn't the case.

Well, now he felt foolish, and that was why he rolled over and away from that hand that settled on his cheek. He pressed back, forcing his spine against the Cajun's warm skin. There wasn't anything between them so he could really feel that extra punch of warmth that came from the man who seemed to have energy stored up in his very bones.

He knew the Cajun was relenting, backing down and he appreciated it, really he did. Because the very last thing he wanted to do was to have to leave that room, the bed even, and sleep alone. He didn't want to yell and fight, and the way his lover relented told him that maybe Remy didn't want to either.

Reaching around him he'd grip the Cajun's wrist, pulling am arm around himself and demanding to be held. Demanding to be had.

"Thank you," he breathed.

"Don' gotta t'ank me. Jus' wanna make y' comf't'ble wit' me, wanna keep y' here. Wanna keep y' safe." Of course he worried about you, he loved you, Doctor. he'd admitted it and he meant it.

And with his arms winding around that thinner body, and tugging him in close, the Cajun pressed his face into the back of the Doctor's neck and just breathed in. This wasn't what he'd wanted, it wasn't what he'd expected, but it was enough for now. Laying here like this with his lover. Could he really be called that? It had been.. what.. four times? Did four times make a lover? Perhaps.. but did four times, with nothing but fighting between each time, make a lover?

That made a wife.

Remy's lips curled at his own little joke and his eyes slid shut. He could handle this. He'd wait and he'd be fine, for his Doctor. As long as it was for his Doctor, he could handle anything, he was sure. Well.. mostly anything.

"I'm still here," He reminded of the obvious, mashing the side of his head down into his pillow. "As much as I'd like to be able to tell you that you can do that, Remy, you can't." Nobody was safe here. Nobody.

He'd quite consciously press back into that holding form. He'd allow his pulse to settle and demand that his brain stop. "Thank you." That's right, he deliberately thanked the Cajun man again. He was thanking for the attempt at security, at stability.

"Goodnight," he'd pull one of those hands up to his mouth, brush a kiss along it's edge and settle in until sleep took him.
