Dan Dreiberg aka Night Owl II ([info]niteowlish) wrote in [info]vas_captio_rpg,
One minute he'd been trying to get up the nerve to go talk to Laurie across the meeting hall - she was so young and her smile so bright, he'd almost forgotten that was the first thing he'd noticed about her - and the next he was standing on a paved road in a place that was quickly becoming familiar to him. Dan blinked against the sunlight shining down around him and then blinked again, hoping that he'd return to the Watchmen meeting so he could actually go through with talking to her this time, instead of waiting so many years to tell her how he felt about her.

Blinking did not transport him back in time to when he was idealistic and just starting out as Nite Owl II, in fact it did absolutely nothing. He watched as a man he hadn't seen emerged from the gym, noticing a sign that Dan had missed in his attempt to get back to his glory days. He probably would've missed the comment all together if the wind hadn't carried it towards him.

"Hey," Dan said, walking towards the newcomer. He glanced around, wondering if the sign had been put there for his benefit. "Are you new?"
