It's a Thief In the Night to Come and Grab You, It Can Creep Up Inside You and Consume You
Who: Willard Stiles and OPEN
What: Arriving, when everyone else is returning. Willard is not the sanest of cookies.
When: Day 25; 1:00 P.M.
Where: The Gym
Rating: PG for now
Status: Ongoing, Open

The gym was quiet, unlike the chaos that the gaunt, harried man had left. His house had literally been falling down around his ears as swarms of vengeful rodents, led by the fearsome Ben, had descended on Willard along with madness that had been years in the making. He took a moment to catch his breath, checking his neck, his arms, his shoulders, his tattered black suit, for signs of rats still clinging to him. There were none. Even the ever-watchful, voyeuristic presence of Ben was mercifully missing. He chanced a nervous laugh, a shivery and trembling smile, before raising his voice in a quavery declaration of triumph. "How... how do you like that, Ben!?" he asked, his voice echoing in a gleeful, poorly controlled shriek. "You... you didn't get me after all! You never could get me! I'm the boss! I'm finally... the boss..." lightheaded and dizzy, he let himself sit on the floor of the gym, where he continued to laugh for several more minutes, rocking back and forth unstably. "I'm free, you... you bad rat... you're... you're not going to get me. You're never going to get me."

He noticed, about then, that he was wearing a watch. It was his father's watch, he noted with interest... he remembered taking that off, and was surprised that he couldn't at this time. He left that alone, deciding that it was the least of his worries right now, and started sorting through the survival kit he'd nearly tripped over while he was ranting happily of finally being rid of Ben. It didn't even occur to him to check and see if anyone else was in the vicinity, or to see if he'd been overheard. Waking up in a strange gym was one of the most normal things to happen to Willard Stiles in a long time, actually.

He ventured outside, squinting in the afternoon sunlight to get a better look at the building. "'Welcome back?' I'm sure I've never been here before."

One minute he'd been trying to get up the nerve to go talk to Laurie across the meeting hall - she was so young and her smile so bright, he'd almost forgotten that was the first thing he'd noticed about her - and the next he was standing on a paved road in a place that was quickly becoming familiar to him. Dan blinked against the sunlight shining down around him and then blinked again, hoping that he'd return to the Watchmen meeting so he could actually go through with talking to her this time, instead of waiting so many years to tell her how he felt about her.

Blinking did not transport him back in time to when he was idealistic and just starting out as Nite Owl II, in fact it did absolutely nothing. He watched as a man he hadn't seen emerged from the gym, noticing a sign that Dan had missed in his attempt to get back to his glory days. He probably would've missed the comment all together if the wind hadn't carried it towards him.

"Hey," Dan said, walking towards the newcomer. He glanced around, wondering if the sign had been put there for his benefit. "Are you new?"
