Day Four - Late Morning
Who: Shannon and Jay
What: Shannon needs to take her mind off things
When: just before noon
Where: the gas station
Rating: R (...Jay's involved; fairly self-explanatory lol)
Status: Incomplete and Dropped

It felt like the world was crumbling around her with every minute that ticked by in this place. Shannon hadn't had time to grieve Boone's death and just like that, a simple gesture of kindness toward a complete stranger from a complete stranger had set Shannon off. There were only two things that Shannon knew of that made that sort of pain go away. Alcohol and sex. Granted, it was Jay, so it'd just be the alcohol, but still. Numbing the pain was numbing the pain, no matter how she played her cards.

After having to hide away in a back room to change into a pair of jeans and probably one of the ugliest "designer" - the label boasted it; Shannon knew it was bullshit - shirts Shannon had ever seen (although, it was probably only ugly because she was used to actual designer clothes), she tucked her journal and pen into her back pocket with effort and trudged out of the museum and up the road toward the gas station.

The tears were barely dry, but she wasn't going to cry all the fuck over Jay because it wasn't Shannon's style. If she was lucky, he wouldn't even know she was upset; just worried. Everyone had their secrets and Shannon was no exception to the rule.

Reflexively, she knocked on the door before pushing it open and letting herself in. "Jay?" she called out, happier than words could express that her voice wasn't as constricted as her throat felt at that very moment. Push it away, have a six pack, and let him make you smile. There's no use crying over it; it's done and there's nothing you can do. Bottle it up or let it go, she thought. Bottling it up won over letting it go.

"No?" she repeated his answer in the form of a question. "And that doesn't worry you at all." That wasn't a question. "People got dragged off into the woods and tied together as bait for wild animals two days ago and this morning some guy found a dead body in the woods...and the fact that you haven't heard from Bob doesn't, like, worry you at all?" she asked, tipping her head back as she downed nearly half the can in a few heavy gulps.

She nearly spit the last chug out again, choking on it in surprise. Sputtering, she shook her head. "What? No. I've never even met him," she said. "And Lunchbox? What the hell?" That last question startled a laugh out of her in spite of herself. "He's not the only one who didn't respond and some of those people are quick normally. I think something's wrong."

"WHAAAAT?" Jay's voice grew finer as he dragged the exclamation. He had no idea about any of that! Why would he? "The fuck you talkin' about? Who the fuck died?" Jay's frown was very noticeable now.

"Oh, so that's what that is." Jay nodded in understanding. She'd change her mind once she met him, for sure. Jay downed some more beer while Shannon laughed, to which he shrugged. Chick was crazy. "Don't respond to what? What did you ask?"

"I don't know, just some chick, I guess. One of the new guys wrote in the journal saying that he found a body in the woods, but it was so fucking ripped to shreds, he couldn't tell who it was or even for sure whether it was a woman even though he thought so," she replied. Taking a deep breath, she knocked back the rest of the beer and slammed the can down on the counter, gasping for air after having chugged the beer.

She nodded back at him. "Yeah, you could say that." She paused and furrowed her brow. "Jay. Seriously?" she asked. "You responded to it. I was just asking after a few people. Five, or something, and only two replied."

Beckoning with two fingers, Shannon looked back at Jay. "Gimme another one."

Jay didn't remember ever experiencing fear. Fright, maybe, he'd been in some weird fucked up situations. But actual fear for his life? Never. Until now. Somehow the thought of a person ripped to shreds hit even him, and there was no way he could remain oblivious and happy as usual. "Shiiit..." He whispered, slumping down to the floor, spilling some beer in the process.

"Ooooh, that! Yeah. Silent Bob didn't say anything? Shit..." A little tiny bit of worry could be heard in his voice now. This and what Shannon had said before...Yeah.

Jay motioned to the door, because he didn't feel like getting up and she was already standing. "They're outside. Bring me one."

Admittedly, Shannon felt a little guilty for bringing Jay down with her; that hadn't been her intention, honestly. She frowned slightly as he slumped down to the floor. "No. He didn't," she said softly.

At his gesture, Shannon nodded solemnly and headed outside, taking an armful of beer cans back inside with her. Then, she slid down against the counter to sit on the floor beside Jay, lining up all but two of the cans on the floor. "Here ya go, mon ami," she said quietly, handing him one of the cans and then cracking open her own. "I didn't mean to freak you out or anything; I'm sorry," she said.

He could be busy. Jay wasn't sure exactly how, or doing what, but he could be. Couldn't he? "Maybe he's off doing some chick, or something..." Jay said, more to convince himself than Shannon at this point.

"Thanks." Jay said when Shannon came back inside with the beers. He finished his first and cracked open the second, tossing the empty can in the trash...or near it, at least. "Nah, I'm not freaked out." He lied. "This place is just fucking creepy as fuck..."

"Maybe," Shannon agreed absently although even if Bob was off getting laid, that wouldn't explain Domeki and Cheryl's failures to reply.

She looked over at Jay and gave him another weak smile, leaning her head back against the counter. "Well, that makes one of us, at least," she replied. "Because my nerves are shot."

With a sigh, Shannon moved and leaned her head on Jay's shoulder. "This sucks so much ass I can't even begin to describe how much it really, truly sucks," she said.

It wasn't necessarily that she needed comfort, but it was more that she was emotionally drained and, thus, exhausted. Shannon trusted Jay. Whether it was because he was pleasantly dimwitted or because he vaguely reminded her of Charlie, she wasn't sure, but Jay was one of the few here with whom Shannon felt safe. "I just wanna go home..." she muttered, taking another drink.

At least she had believe him. Shrugging, and quite contented with that, Jay took another sip of his beer. It didn't help. That place still blew donkey cock. Actually, that brought back memories. Ew.

Jay smirked slyly when Shannon placed her head on his shoulder, thinking that this whole Silent Bob MIA thing might just get him some, and he'd have to thank lunchbox later for that. After all, Jay had heard somewhere that sad chicks were easier to crack.

But he wouldn't make a move on her now, because even he wasn't that dimwitted. "Totally." He agreed with all the sucking, though it reminded him of some other way of sucking...But not right now.

"Shit yeah, tell me about it. I'm outta weed, Silent Bob doesn't even come around anymore, and this place just blows. So fucking lame." Jay was used to a lot more excitement, truth be told.

Shannon lifted her head to look up at Jay. "You guys are, like, way close, huh?" she asked. There was no poking fun or condescending in her voice. Leaning her head back against the counter again, Shannon frowned.

"Yeah, I heard you were out of weed," she told him. "I tried to get Bob to teach me to smoke, because I thought he had some. He went with some guy named Andy looking for the medicinal stuff in the pharmacy but I guess they came out empty handed," she added.

She leaned her head back and chugged again on the beer, stopping only when she needed to take a breath. "At least you have somebody here," she murmured and then closed her eyes as the thoughts of Boone filtered their way back into her conscious mind. Make it stop... she thought miserably, taking another drink. Please go away...

Jay didn't want to admit it, because he knew how it sounded like, but it was true. "Yeah..." He muttered, much against his will.

"Well, fuck, this place just keeps on sucking harder." He said, shaking his head in disappointment. "First they take our shit, then they don't even have good shit where it's supposed to be..."

Jay turned his head to look at Shannon, and he felt sorry for what he saw. "So do you. Pretty sure I've seen you mingling in the journals..." He shifted, uncomfortable, before continuing. "And there's me. And Silent Bob." At least he hoped so.

Shannon nodded her understanding. She wasn't going to poke fun at him because she was too jealous to bother with picking on him.

"I'd agree with you, but I found what I was looking for, so I can't complain too much," Shannon replied. "That's pretty crappy though. That they took your stuff." Shannon hadn't had anything for them to take, so she couldn't say she understood, but she could sympathize.

Turning her head, Shannon looked back at Jay and gave him a small smile as she raised her eyebrows at him. "Is that your way of saying we're friends?" she asked, only half-joking. She appreciated the sentiment, but it wasn't really the same as having someone from home. This place would feel a lot less scary, she thought, if she had Boone or Sayid with her.

Shannon drained the second beer can and rested her head back on Jay's shoulder. "You're not so bad, Jay. I was kind of a bitch before. I'm kind of a bitch all the time... I don't always mean it; sometimes it just happens," she said absently, flicking the tab of the beer can idly.

"Oh yeah? What were you looking for?" Jay hadn't needed anything so far, but he supposed he would have to shower eventually. But not just yet. He looked at Shannon with a sad smile and shrugged. "I guess..."

Jay wasn't used to being friends with chicks. Mostly he just wanted to fuck them. But seeing as Shannon wasn't putting out, and Laura had seemed to vanish off the face of the fucking earth along with Silent Bob, being friends with Shannon sounded just fucking righteous.

It came as a surprise, Shannon admitting to being a bitch. Especially because Jay hadn't noticed, she'd just acted like most chicks he knew (except for Justice).

"Whatever." He said dismissively. If she said so...

Shannon frowned just slightly and paused, trying to decide whether she wanted to admit to what she'd been looking for. "Medicine," she decided on. "Lucked out finding peppermint schnapps while I was in there," she added with a small smile.

The expression coupled with the non-committal answer made Shannon smile back with equal sadness as she nudged his shoulder with her own. "There's bound to be somebody here who'll put out, Jay," she teased, winking. "I'm just not it."
