Who: Remy LeBeau & Illyana
What: Gambit's pushing couches around. No. Seriously.
Where: Near the Thrift Store.
When: Day 24, 2:38PM
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete

He'd had a bed in that barn. A real (nearly) bed. There were six couches in the barn, four chairs, and several rusted folding chairs. He'd made a bed out of three of those couches.. a nice, king-sized bed. And he wanted it back, damnit. So, for the last hour, Gambit had pushed two of those three couches along the outside perimeter of the town, down that road that no one ever used, because there were no buildings on it. But the last chunk of the road was broken up, so he'd been making detours into the town, going past the thrift store. The first two couches had been pushed all the way from the barn to the church, taken inside, and set up as he saw fit. Now he just had one more, and he was eighty percent done with this move. It was tough, tugging them along. But he'd found himself some rope and had tied it around them each, and hauled half of the way, pushed the other half, so he didn't strain anything. He was a well-built man, but pushing a couch half a mile? Hard work when there were no wheels!

He had all of the sheets piled on this couch, folded up neatly. He had half a mind to air them out, outside before putting them in the church.. but with all these bugs? He didn't want to sit outside. He'd air them out tomorrow-- but they were already smelling a little better, this long haul and all the moving had shaken loose all the dust and grime, and gotten rid of at least a bit of the musty smell. It wasn't the Ritz, but Remy could make do.

He always did.

"Tryin'a pu' i' in 'de church, makin' m'self uh be'." Since, you know, he'd burned down the barn and the other bed he'd made.. so he was remaking it, and he was going to make it better. Maybe it'd make the Doctor happy to have it back.. he was hoping it would. The two of them needed something nice right about now. A little shiver ran through him as he thought of what had happened hours ago, but he shook his head. He didn't need to think about that at all. He'd elbowed the other man in the face and he'd left without checking to make sure he was okay. He felt like an ass, but damnit, the Doctor had deserved it!

"Y'gonna help, beau?" It was a purred question that came with waggling eyebrows and one of those amazing smiles, charmer. he couldn't help it. Illyana was gorgeous. No, really-- she was the most beautiful woman in this place. And that was saying a lot.

Illyana shook her head, trying not to laugh as Remy told her he was pulling the couch all the way to the church. She wasn't sure where he'd started from, but he was looking a bit worn out, to her eyes. "That's a lot smarter than most people here," she said. Including herself. Illyana was used to dealing with less-than-ideal circumstances, but she'd always had a decent bed until she came here. Stupid, really, for not thinking about making herself one. Then again, she hadn't really staked a claim on one building in particular since she'd arrived.

Her smile widened into a grin when he asked for her help. "I can have this at the church for you in two seconds flat," she said, taking another step or two forward and resting her hand on the couch. She'd been to the church before, in her wanderings; she knew where it was, so she could summon a Stepping Disc, no problem. "You want a lift, too, or just the couch?"

"Aw, heck chere, you offerin'a give me uh ri'e, I'm gonna take i', been pushin' 'dat t'in' uh lon' time." He moved around to stand closer to her and flash a brilliant, charming smile, swaying in just a little closer, eyebrows raising up. "How ol' you?" He asked with a slightly deeper tone to his voice. Please say eighteen, please say eighteen -- really, not that being legal had ever stopped him with pretty young girls before. Hey, fifteen could be consenting when you were only eighteen. Just three years difference. He was okay with that.

"How you gonna take us 'dere, chere?" He assumed it'd have something to do with her powers, and he was most interested to see them in action, though he had no plans of showing her exactly what he could do. This wasn't show and tell, this was her offering to help him, and Gambit was okay with that.

"How old are you?" Illyana asked in return, her smile turning just a little sly. He was smooth, far smoother than 'Berto (not that it was hard, in her opinion), but not as slimy as some of the boys from the Hellions. Flattering though it was to have someone flirt with her, the only thing she really knew about him was that he had known Piotr. So, of course she assumed he was closer to Piotr's age than her own. Not that it ever bothered her best friend Kitty to date an older man, or it bothered her that the older man in question was her brother.

When he asked about how they were getting to the church, her sly smile widened. "Just watch," she said. It took a bit more concentration than she was used to to make her Stepping Disc large enough to take the couch with it, but she managed. "Next stop," she said, letting the Disc engulf them all. Less than a second later, but long enough for Illyana to feel the sickening "home" feeling of Limbo, they reappeared inside the main entryway of the church. "Church," she finished. She looked up at Gambit, wondering how he would react to the teleport. It might not be that disturbing for him, since they spent so little time in Limbo.

"Twen'y one or so." He knew that answer always gave him trouble, so he waved a gloved hand some to tell her not to worry about it. He didn't know exactly how old he was, don't bother questioning it. "You eigh'een, oui?" Or nineteen, that'd be fine too. Twenty.. twenty-one.. nine hundred and twenty-seven? Also acceptable. Just nothing under eighteen.. or he'd have to pretend like he didn't know her age.

However, when that large circle-like thing came wrapping around them, Gambit pressed his hands into the couch and lifted his eyes up, staring as it went up over his head. Holy shit.

But then they were suddenly in the church and Remy was moving a step away, smoothing his hands over his body. He checked his legs, both there-- a hand found it's way to his crotch for a quick grab. Still in tact. A little breath was released.

"'Dat was so cool." If she was looking for a terrified reaction, she wouldn't get one. Stunned? Sure, but it had little to do with limbo, which he hadn't particularly realized as anything more than a void. Voids he'd experienced, voids he could handle. Transporting furniture and people? That was exciting. "Wha' else y' do, chere?"

Just a bit younger than Piotr, then. Not as old as she'd thought. She nodded when he asked if she was 18. Not that it mattered, she thought. Did it?

She smirked as Remy went through the motions of checking he was still all there. She hadn't seen anyone do that before. "I'm not gonna leave pieces of you behind, don't worry," she said, chuckling. Although, it was nice to see he wasn't too disturbed by what had happened. Probably because he hadn't realized where they'd gone, but still. She ran a hand through her hair. "All kinds of things," she said. "And you?"

"Gla' f' 'dat. Wouln' like tryin'a go t' 'de bat'room la'er an' fin'in' 'dat I'm missin somet'in' impora'n'." He broke into a grin then and waggled his eyebrows some at her.

Though, when she mentioned that she could do 'all kinds of things' and asked in return what he could do, he rolled his shoulders back in that graceful way. "All kin'sa t'in's." He returned just as easily, now pushing that couch up against the wall of the church, to join the other two. He was very clearly making a larger bed, and he'd be breaking off those arms on the couches shortly, to make them just a nice, big area. Clever Cajun, wasn't he? He already had linens piled on the other couch, pressed into the corner.

He was worse than 'Berto, and Illyana hadn't thought that was possible. But he seemed to realize it, because there was no way Remy was being serious, waggling his eyebrows like that. Illyana giggled in spite of herself.

She raised an eyebrow as Remy parroted her words back at her. But, she supposed it was only to be expected. Even at home, there were mutants who were wary of showing off what they could do. Like that boy, the one who had killed himself. Not a happy thought. She turned her attention back to Remy and what he was doing. "Awfully big for one," she remarked idly, looking over the bed he was constructing. Not that it was any of her business, and Magneto would be horrified at what she'd just said.

"Oui, gotta be big 'nuff f' two." He smiled wider and bumped that last couch into place before he crouched down to start pulling up the little skirt flap on the bottom-- the arm of the couch was facing him, so he was tearing the fabric up and over the arm, then jerking out the padding, and he brought a booted foot out to kick at the wood once, twice, three times, before he snapped it and was able to tear it away, leaving the couch partly armless, just on the one side. Easy access now. And soon, he was moving to do the same to the other couch.

"Y'wanna show me yours, an' I'll show you mine?" As suggestive as that sounded, and despite the purely cheeky grin that accompanied it, it was clearly an offer to show powers for powers. Only the Doctor and Shannon knew about his powers, Rogue of course knew he had some, and so did Illyana.. but neither knew what they were, yet. Illyana would soon, though, if she played her cards right.

And if Remy didn't lie.

Illyana watched him tear into the couch, and it took her a minute to realize what he was doing. She smirked and folded her arms in front of her, shaking her head. "Careful you don't damage the structure of the couches," she said. "Don't want to come crashing down to the floor in the middle of the night. Might upset the 'two'."

When he made the offer to show her his powers, Illyana nodded. Curiosity was something she had a fair amount of, and she reasoned it would be good to know what her fellow mutants could do, if there was a crisis. "You've seen part of mine," she said, summoning another Stepping Disc. She stepped through it, coming out of her teleport just behind him. She tapped him on the shoulder to let him know she hadn't just bailed on him.

"I've also got a bit of sorcery at my disposal." No need to mention where she picked it up, of course. "Sword that can cut through magical spells or attacks." She summoned her Soul Sword, letting part of her Eldritch Armor appear as well, just enough to cover her right arm. "And people like the Professor can't read my mind. I've got natural shielding." She willed her sword and armor away and clasped her hands behind her back.

"And you?"

"Goo' poin'." He flashed her a wide smile when she mentioned that he didn't want to ruin the structure and nodded his head some, moving to settle down on the edge of his makeshift bed and watch as the blonde girl began showing off her powers. Stepping Disc, right.. the black hole thing. Sorcery? Really? A sword-- Oooh, look at that. His eyes lit up a little and that smile on his face widened out. He liked that. He wanted one of those. And metal shields? Well, this girl certainly sounded like she had it all together.

He was leaning back some and tilting his head to the side, hair brushing at his shoulder. "Impressive." He said slowly, clearly, then laughed a bit and lifted up a hand, displaying his gloved fingers (save two of five). "I use kine'ic en'rgy, charge t'in's up, an' 'de they explo'e." So just why hadn't he exploded the glass holding them? Well, he wasn't one of the good guys, Illyana, he wasn't willing to give his life to save the others. Not a chance. They'd all have to suffer together. And, of course, he had a few other tricks up his sleeve but wasn't interested in telling her about those just yet.

She caught the smile on Remy's face, and beamed back. She liked impressing people, and it seemed he was at least appreciative of the powers she'd chosen to reveal. "Not quite Doctor Strange, but it works for me," she said. Had he ever met Stephen Strange? He'd been at the mansion, and Strange and the Professor had been good friends, so perhaps he'd at least heard of the sorcerer.

When he explained what he could do, Illyana nodded. "Not bad," she said. "Offensive powers are useful, especially around here." If you could bring yourself to use them on people. Or had no compunction about doing so. That he hadn't blown up the glass didn't really register in her mind, and when it got around to doing so, she'd probably rationalize it as his powers not being strong enough to handle something that big, or that Management had found a way to make the glass explosion-proof, as they'd made it teleport-proof.

"So, you didn't stick around Westchester," she said, remembering what they'd talked about on the journals days before. "Where did you stay back home? Not hanging around with Freedom Force, are you?" The furrowed brow and frown clearly gave away her thoughts on that "lovely" group.

The name didn't really ring a bell with Remy, but then again, he didn't always pay close attention if it didn't concern him directly. Self-serving man. But he had no problems hurting other people, Illyana, don't be concerned about that. He just wasn't interested in letting everyone know what he could did, had no interest in being called a demon and being yelled at. While that was fun sometimes, it wasn't something he was interested in right now.

"Ha' m' own place 'fore I run int' 'de magic team." The X-Men, that was. He smirked some and crossed his arms over his chest. "Was only 'dere lil' bi', 'fore I en' up here. Migh' still be 'dere, if I wasn' here." But he had no intention of going back there now. He was quite sure they wouldn't want him again, after he'd 'run off'. It surely wouldn't sit well with the happy do-gooders.

She figured he meant the X-Men when he mentioned the 'magic team'. He certainly wouldn't be referring to the New Mutants. The only thing 'magic' about them was her codename.

"It's a probably a good thing you weren't with them," she said, her expression turning serious. "Just before I ended up here, there was...they went to Dallas, and...." She shut her eyes for a moment, the image on the TV playing back in her mind. "Well, my group is gonna pick up where they left off," she finished. "Someone's got to, right?" That half-hearted smile was a feeble attempt at making light of the situation, and she knew it.

"'Dey ain' make i'?" He asked more slowly, breathing in through his nose. Well. That was bad news, he'd liked the lot of them. Rogue in particular.. he'd had a bit of a crush on her.. but it hadn't been serious, of course, it'd only been for fun. He wouldn't ever actually care about her, she just wasn't his type. Right?

Of course.

"Well, better you an' I here 'den, oui? An' wha's 'dat language you were speakin', chere? 'Dat Russian?" It was either Russian or Dutch, he imagined.

Illyana shook her head. "There was an explosion," she said, her voice going flat. "The building they were in, it went up so fast. There was nothing left of it, just dust and debris." She swallowed. "No bodies, no survivors." Not even Piotr. Not even his armored body had helped him survive the heart of whatever had caused the explosion.

Here? Better? She gave Remy a look. "Better in the sense that we're not dead, I guess," she said. "But I was doing all right with that at home." She bit her lip, thinking of Doug. Although, him being here might not have increased his chances of survival. His powers would leave him as helpless as the other normal humans here. Then again, her powers hadn't kept her safe, aside from letting her escape from the zombified Logan so maybe he'd have been fine.

Asking about her language did bring a smile to Illyana's face. "Yep, Russian," she said proudly. "Piotr uses - used - it more than I do, but he had more time with it as his only language than I did." Considering she'd gotten English dumped into her head not too long before Belasco had kidnapped her, and had been forced to make it make sense while in Limbo so she could talk to Cat and Storm, English was almost more of her native language now than Russian.

At the mention of an explosion, Remy was quiet a few seconds, having directed his face towards the couch so that he could study it and hide the expression on his face. But then he was looking back up with a smile. "Better 'dem 'den us, non? Ain' do no goo' cryin' over spille' milk. T'ink 'bou' 'de pas' too much an' y' star' livin' in i'. Gotta t'ink 'bou' 'de future."

He was moving aside to put the scraps of the couch into a pile then, before directing his attention onto the other remaining arm. He'd done this before so he was quite sure he knew where to break off the wood so that he wouldn't hurt the couch.. at least, he hoped he did.

"Russian's kin'a uh pretty language. Never learne' i' m'self.." And with has badly as he spoke English, sometimes (no one had ever taught this man proper grammar, not really), it was hopefully not his first. French, of course, was. And though he'd learned to speak English at a young age, French would forever and always be his first language and the one he liked using the most, bbut no one here really spoke it, so he was left with English... it was that way everywhere he went.

"Where you sleepin' a' nigh', chere?" This question was asked with a glance over his shoulder and a smile. He'd have to come visit her some day, just pop in to say hi. He liked her, and he liked that she was like him.

He had a point. She knew he had a point. It was pretty much the same point the gang at home had been trying to make. But it was so hard to not dwell on what had happened. She offered Remy a smile. "Yeah, I suppose." Although, what future they had here was debatable. They had to get out, and soon. She was gonna go stir-crazy if she was kept in here for too long.

She watched Remy continue demolishing the couch. He seemed like he knew what he was doing. "It's a very pretty language," she said. "Wish I could actually read it, instead of just speak it and understand it spoken. I ended up in the 'States before I learned to read." Piotr could read and write in Russian, and he'd promised to teach her at some point...and there she went, dwelling on the past again.

She raised an eyebrow at his last question. "Wherever I find a place when I'm tired," she replied. She hadn't really claimed anywhere as 'hers' yet. Closest she had was that bathroom in the theatre, but after waking up with the dead guy, she hadn't really wanted to stay. "Why, can you recommend anywhere?" Just a hint of teasing in her voice. Piotr would have fits.

Hah! Had she really just asked that? Really? Gambit couldn't help himself, he was breaking into a wide smile and waggling his eyebrows. Then he was leaning down to pat the large bed-couch. "Righ' here, chere." He offered with a little laugh, then he turned around to plop down on the edge and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, pushing his hands together, leather spreading out over leather.

"Shoul' pick uh place t' stay all 'de time, so you coul' have visi'ors, non? Wha' if I wanna come by an' see you sometime? Can' jus' wan'er roun' an' keep lookin' f' you all day, can I? Ain' really gon' work.. Wanna see you, wanna see you, don' wanna run roun' all over 'dis place." It was a light tease, and he was suddenly bouncing up to his feet again and rocking onto his toes.

"Lo'sa places you coul' be real comfy." He continued after a moment.

She'd walked right into it, and it was still amusing. She grinned and giggled as Remy patted his couch. That had broken the dour mood exactly as she'd hoped it would. "Wouldn't your 'two' be upset?" she asked, sliding her hands into the pockets of her jeans. Picture of innocence, at least for a moment.

She shrugged as Remy started talking about needing to find a more permanent crash space. "You can write me a message, and I'll come see you," she said. She shook her head slightly, still smiling, as he bounded to his feet again. No wonder his powers worked with kinetic energy - he was bursting with it. "Like where?" she asked when he mentioned there were options. This time, her tone was more serious. No teasing in this question. She genuinely wanted to know.

"What makes you think I have a 'two'? Maybe I'm just preparing for the future." He lifted his eyebrows in a playfully suggestive way once again, then laughed a bit and leaned in to bring his face closer to hers, his body swaying closer in a decidedly sexual way.. but then again, no matter how he moved, it was designed to be graceful, sensual. Sex on legs, this one. And he did it so well. He could be cleaning toilets and make it look hot -- that wouldn't even be difficult, not with the scrub brush and that hole at the bottom of the toilet...

"Well, like 'de gym, safe 'dere, lo'sa people. Nice people, far as I can tell." He rolled his shoulders back and leaned a little away from her, letting the poor younger woman have a little personal space back. Clearly, this mutant had very little regard for any personal space. Even his own. "An' le musee. 'De museum." He corrected in English, with a charming smile to follow. Oh, he loved flirting. It was his favorite sport, and it was even better when it was a beautiful young woman. He'd hit the jackpot with Illyana.

"An' 'de barn, 'dough.. 'dat's kin'a outta 'de way, ain' goo' t' be ou' somewhere all on y'own.. 'Dere's 'de t'eater, lo'sa rooms 'dere.. some real grea' ones. An' 'de lib'ary, righ' cross from i'. You wan', chere, coul' show you 'roun' t' all 'de places I'm t'inkin' of, non?" Oh yes, he'd love to show her around. "Gotta be t'morrow or 'de day af'er, 'dough.. gotta ge' 'dis se' up now." He motioned back towards the bed with a lift of his eyebrows. And it was dark out, so it wasn't the best time to be showing places for sleeping.

She laughed as he waggled his eyebrows again. Oh, she could see exactly why Piotr hadn't gotten along with him when he'd been at the mansion before. And he definitely wouldn't approve of her enjoying the conversation as much as she was. Overt flirting was amusing to her, as long as it was a friendly person doing it. Those boys in the Hellions, no. Then it was just annoying, and kind of pathetic. But Remy? He was having fun, and he didn't intend any harm by it, she figured, so it didn't bug her. And as for invading her personal space, well...he was definitely much cuter than the demons who had no concept of personal space in Limbo.

"That's where I've been most recently, the theater," she said as he rattled off places to stay. She shrugged. "It's not bad, at least, it wasn't till I woke up with a corpse." Illyana made a face. Jack or Jason or whatever his name had been wasn't her first corpse, but it still hadn't been pleasant.

When Remy offered to show her around, Illyana smiled. "I'd like that," she said. Not that she hadn't seen most of the city on her own, but Remy was fun to talk to, and he was someone from home. She glanced at the bed he was making, and raised an eyebrow of her own. "I shouldn't keep you from it, then," she said. "Your 'two' might not be too happy if they wander in and find it only half done." Yes, he'd said he might not have one, but it seemed to her that making a bed for two would be an awful lot of trouble if you didn't at least have someone in mind.

"My 'two' can help, 'den." He smirked some and lifted his eyebrows. Alright, Illyana, you'd caught him. There was a 'two', but it didn't mean he was going to flirt with you any less. You were much prettier than his 'two'. But all the same, he was giving her a charming smile and nodding his head.

"Take you 'roun', 'den. Soon." It was a promise, and shortly thereafter, the Cajun was walking her back to the church door and seeing her off. It was time to get back to making that bed livable. He'd seen the look on the Doctor's face when he'd burned it. He was going to put it right back the way he'd found it...

Okay, it'd be better.
