When You're Weary, Feeling Small, When Tears Are In Your Eyes, I'll Dry Them All
Who: Edward and Shannon
What: Since Edward is partly made from dead flesh, the flies are attacking the exposed parts of his body. In other words, the poor innocent's face. Watch Edward run and flail to the museum, and watch Shannon be his friend while he tries to stay clear of swarms of carrion flies.
Where: Approaching, and then at, the museum.
When: Day 24, 12:00 PM
Rating: PG for now, Edward is cute and Shannon is his friend. :)

Poor Edward was having a rough day. The flies hadn't been that bad at first; certainly not worse than Edward had remembered them being in Suburbia. However, they were getting progressively worse in Vas Captio, and the heat and dead bodies (though Edward had not personally been around the latter) seemed to only be making the swarming problem worse. Since he was partly made from dead flesh, the flies were attracted to his face, and he was having a terrible time of swatting at them. However, things weren't all bad. Though he had been warned against the man called Rorschach, the gruff night watchman had given him a spare mask to wear after taking it on faith that Edward wouldn't ruin it. It wasn't keeping the insects from swarming around him, but at least it was keeping them from devouring his face. He didn't like the way it felt itchy against his scarred skin, but hopefully, he'd be able to take it off once inside the museum.

He followed Shannon's instructions, swatting with heavy hands at the bugs that pelted his head and face. He looked odd, wearing a mask like Rorschach's with his leathery, angular appearance and his hair sticking out from under it in odd directions, but he could see through the material surprisingly well. It was designed so that, even though it was opaque from the outside, the wearer would have full visibility through the shifting material. He spotted Shannon almost immediately upon entering the museum, remembering his promise to Rorschach and asking for her help.

"Will you please take off the mask?"

When Edward had complained of being attacked by the bugs that Shannon could see through the grimy windows of the museum, Shannon realized just how much she missed him. They hadn't had the chance to talk much in the past few days - or weeks, maybe; she'd lost track - and since she was alone and had the space to offer, Shannon did just that, inviting Edward to the museum in spite of the fact that there were other people living there who might not have been entirely comfortable with a man sporting scissors for hands occupying the same place.

Shannon had waited a few minutes to give Edward a head start before she stepped out to the porch, reflexively, to watch for him. She could see him way down the road making his way up, arms flailing as he swatted at flies, but she couldn't stay out for more than a minute before she, too, had been attacked by a literal cloud of them. Shannon retreated back into the building, slamming the door behind herself and making a face at the sound of the muffled buzzing outside the door. A few moments later, she'd crossed the room again, pacing for lack of anything else better to do while she waited. She wondered idly if Jack or Ianto would come out and see Edward and freak out. Or Sarah Jane. ...or that kid who said he stayed at the museum and yet whom she'd never met.

It didn't take long before Shannon heard the door open again and when she looked up, she was unpleasantly surprised to see the mask on Edward's face. It made sense to her, but it was unsettling and unexpected. Shannon startled slightly. "Geez...hanging out with Rorschach much, sweetie?" she teased. When asked, Shannon crossed to him, nodding gently, a soft smile over her lips. "Hands down, please," she said quietly and evenly before reaching up and carefully taking the mask off Edward's face. "I'll hang onto it, okay?" she offered, figuring that if Edward was asking for help taking it off, he'd want help putting it back on and knowing Rorschach, Shannon's best guess was that the use of the mask came with the condition that Edward not actually touch it.

"Come on in," she said and gave Edward a small, sympathetic frown when she noted all the bug bites. "Those look really itchy...come here, let me help," Shannon offered, nodding toward her room. She'd taken some aloe gel from the pharmacy the same day she and Domeki had raided it weeks ago because, well, it'd been there and her shoulders and neck had been sunburned from the Island. It wouldn't work as well as probably Calomine lotion would, but it'd be something to ease the itch, if Edward would be willing to sit still long enough for Shannon to get it on his skin.

Edward smiled thankfully as Shannon drew him indoors and helped him take off the mask. He obediently lowered his shear-like hands when she asked him to, knowing all too well the damage they could cause to a pretty girl if he wasn't careful. He'd had to learn to be so careful, and it still wasn't enough sometimes.

"Not much... Rorschach is scary... but he let me use his mask," Edward said, wincing slightly once his sore skin was exposed to air once again. "OK, thank you..." he agreed, softly and gratefully, when Shannon offered to keep the mask safe for him. Rorschach had told him not to touch it, but he hadn't said anything about giving it to someone else for safekeeping. Edward decided that Rorschach would likely appreciate such thoughtfulness.

He sat still as she applied aloe gel to his bug bites, feeling almost instant relief compared to the scratchiness of the mask. "Thank you, Shannon... thank you so much..."

Upon Edward's response, Shannon smirked. "Yeah, he's kinda creepy. I'm with you on that," she replied with a wink. "But hey that's cool he let you use the mask. Those bugs are a real bitch," she added distractedly as she set the mask aside to keep Edward from unintentionally ruining it. Shannon didn't even want to begin to think about the consequence her timid friend might face should he have to take back a ripped and slashed mask to someone like Rorschach.

"You're welcome, sweetie," she said with a smile as she looked back up at Edward and silently assessed the bites. There were an awful lot and Shannon surmised that Edward would be itchy for a few days after this.

As she applied the aloe, Shannon smiled at Edward's appreciation. "Don't thank me; that's what friends are for," she replied, moving her focus from her work to his eyes so that he would know she meant it. After a short pause, she went back to applying the aloe and then looked back at him when she'd finished.

"You can keep this. I know you won't be able to put it on, but I'm sure just about anyone else here would be more than willing if you ask nicely," she replied. "Because until those heal, they're going to itch like crazy and I'm not using that stuff anymore; my sunburn is healed," she finished. Then, Shannon swept her eyes over him and knit her brow slightly. Where would he put it so that his shears didn't cut open the plastic container? "Where do you want it?" she finally asked sheepishly.
