Where: Near the Post Office
When: Day 24, 1:12pm
Rating: PG-13

Gambit had a good day. No, really. He had. It'd been a good morning and a decent early afternoon. Except there was still no sun. He was going on day four without eating anything, and it was starting to get quite painful. He knew he had to eat, but it just wasn't appealing at all. And he was hungry enough that he knew eating too much would just make him sick anyway. He'd gone without food several times in his young life. It wouldn't always be like that for him.. some day, he'd be disgustingly well off.. but not yet. That time, though, wasn't so far off, after all. He just had to get home to do it.. not that he knew any of that, of course. He thought he'd never go back there, never see any of those so-called X-men again. Logan's body in his bed still haunted him. Sometimes, Rogue's face lingered in his thoughts. He'd left just two months after meeting her, but she'd already become quickly attached to him, against her better judgement. It was all a game for him, of course.. he wanted something he couldn't have, and he certainly couldn't have her. Not ever. Not with her power in the way.

Not that he'd ever really want her, anyway. He wasn't that sort of man. He wasn't a one-woman sort of man. Not a one-man sort of man, either. Though.. well.. he wasn't even going to go there. He was only going to smile at the thought and leave it at that.

That was, until he saw a familiar head of hair, coming down that road. That white streak, the slightly auburn tone.. Gambit's jaw fell open. He knew that face. He knew that body. He knew that walk and those eyes and..

"Rogue?" He called out to her, his pace slowly coming to a stop. This had to be some sort of sick joke. The dark around them could have been playing havoc with his eyes, his perception of her face. But he could have sworn... but why would she be here? He was thinking back, desperately. Had he asked for Rogue, even jokingly, in that damn survey? He couldn't recall. Think harder, Cajun, had you asked for her? No, he wouldn't have....

Graceful. That would make things interesting. Mutant, too. Though, she hadn't had any doubt that a mutant would be behind all this. She wondered what his power was and why he'd target her. Maybe it was some sort of revenge for Ms. Marvel.

All those questions came pouring out, like he knew her. "Listen here, sugar, Ah ain't had the best day. Ah'll give you two options and you take the one that's gonna be the least painful for ya; either work that mojo an' send me back where you took me from or you're gonna be in a world of hurt once the Brotherhood find out what you done."

She looked him over speculatively again, making certain there wasn't anything she was missing - heavy boots, plain old jeans and some screwy gloves. Those gloves made her smirk a little, always interesting stories to go with those. Though, this wasn't story time, this was game time. Sure, she was young; but, she was cocky. She had a fistful of power and big win under her belt - not to mention the brotherhood and a momma named Mistique. Can't fault her for having a pushy attitude, could you, Cajun?

Figured out yet this wasn't quite your Rogue?

He figured it out almost immediately, and as she continued talking, his eyebrows steadily went up. Then he let out a nervous little laugh. He wasn't going to win this game, was he? Oh. He didn't want to fight with her. He was already bruised and banged up enough, he didn't want any more. Someone save him.

"You dunno me.. do you, chere?" As if that weren't completely obvious by now. But that bit about the Brotherhood? That was interesting.. something he hadn't known about the girl in front of him. And she was just that, a girl. Not the woman who had two or three years on him.. but just a girl, his own age. He could see the differences there. This wasn't his Rogue.

Both gloved hands came up, as if in surrender. "I ain' 'de one brough' you here, jus' trappe' here like you. Je ne vous veux pas dire de mal. Pourtant." I don't mean you any harm. Yet. and he hadn't worried about saying that as he had, since he was so sure she couldn't speak French. "Know you from some ot'er time, oui? Or maybe m' jus' crazy an' I don' know you." He liked that idea the most. Just forget he'd said your name at all, Rogue.

Oh, weakness, she'd heard it in that laughter. She saw it in raising palms and in the stall tactics. Arms fell uncrossed and she leaned over, dropping that heavy coat to the ground, no sense holding on to it at the moment. Hands found home on her hips, clearly growing impatient with the mutant standing in front of her.

"You happen to be the third person to tell me that," she canted her head a little and gave a small, thoughtful smile. She wasn't good at manipulation like you, Remy. With this girl, what you saw was what you got; so, when her lips quirked into that thoughtful smile you knew she was really considering what you said. Though, after a few moments her features hardened again. "Though, ain't none of 'em known my name before."

The French had left her unphased, she didn't care what the other mutant had to say outside of 'OK, I'll send you home,' and since she hadn't heard that yet her own heavy boots were taking this moment to close up a bit of the gap between she and the other man. He was sort of good looking, wasn't he? Rugged, sort of. Probably quite the charmer when he wasn't kidnapping people.

"You're workin' on makin' this hard on yourself," she warned with a far from friendly smile.

"Non, chere. On'y know y' name, 'cause like I tol' you, we me' 'fore. M' Gambit. You an' me go' t' know one anot'er. Y' like me, when I ain' bein' uh pushy jerk." Just to remind her and help ease some of the growing tension. "An' sometime even when I am." That was smiled out and he lifted his eyebrows again. "You dunno me, 'dough, 'cause I t'ink we ain' me' ye'. M' from nin'een nin'y t'ree?" He was prompting her to let him know what year she was from.

Please don't hit him and ask questions later. Then he'd have to fight back and no one wanted that, certainly not him.

"Well, you just happen to be the second crazy person I met today," it wasn't an honor, Remy. "Because the world Ah live in? Well, there it's 1991." Her hips shifted. "So, maybe your math's off. Either that or I suspect you're gonna start tryin' to tell me about death and lists and shakin' like a leaf." Sorry, Kimberly, wherever you are; you'd left an impression, and not a good one.

She stood her ground, though; not really trusting her ears on this one, but having enough of a soft heart not to want to go right on ahead and start pounding this guy into next Thursday. "Listen, just point me in the direction of the nearest phone." Green-Hazel eyes hadn't left the Cajun's, it was kind of like a stare off, Rogue quite accustomed to the idea that the first person to look away was generally the one who'd be losing something shortly.

Unfortunately, Remy was from the same school of Hard Knocks, and refused to look away as well. He'd already lost this fight and they hadn't started fighting yet, but he wasn't going to back away from it, regardless. "Ain' no phones. No 'lec'rici'y. No sun. No foo'. No ho' wa'er. No not'in. 'Dis place? Like uh big prison, an' we all stuck here. Surroun'e' by glass on all four si'es. 'Dey doin' 'xperimen's on us.. we all stuck in here t'get'er, chere." And that was the best he could tell you, Rogue. He promised, he wasn't lying. Even though.. well.. he knew a lot more than he was letting on.

Rogue blinked a couple of times as she wrapped her mind around what the man in front of her was saying in his Cajun-fried English. "You know that don't make a lick of sense?" She asked, a tilt of her head and the look of a half smile creeping across her lips. She couldn't help as her arms crossed, hands moving from her hips to the crook of her elbows. She was looking at you like you had three heads, Remy LeBeau.

"Ah think you're full of it," she said, turning on her heel and making to walk away.

"Mebbe I am." He agreed with a slow smile, as she began pacing away. He hated to see her leave.. but he loved to watch her go. All that woman, and no one could ever lay their hands on her.

It made Gambit want to do it so badly.

"Bu' you gonna fin' ou' soon 'nuff, chere. An' you like me, we 'de same kin'. You gonna c'mon back t' me when you fin' out 'de trut'. We on'y go' each ot'er here." There was Illyana of course.. but Remy wasn't interested in letting her know that just yet. No. He wanted to keep her for himself.
