WHO: Jack Harkness & Ianto Jones
WHAT: Good morning sunshine! Have a mutilated body in your bed!
WHERE: the Museum
WHEN: early morning; day 23.
RATING: G rated of course! Would I lie?
STATUS: Active

There had been a multitude of things running through Jack's head lately as he tossed and turned in their bed. Well, not so much tossing and turning as holding tight to Ianto and staring blankly out into space. Right then. The talk of zombies the past few days had been one that was less than pleasant. Jack knew he had taken the coward's way out and hid but this? This was one thing he didn't know if his body coul handle. so in this instance, he had thought it better to err on the side of caution and stay where he knew he was safe.

Now, though... if they were still around, Jack was ready to start kicking ass and taking names. Shoot first, ask questions later -- which would have been all well and good had Jack had a pistol in his possession.

Right, then.

Jack nestled closer to Ianto, an arm curled protectively around his lover's waist and kept him pulled in against his chest. It was strange -- for so many Vas Captio was a place of horror -- which it was for the two of them, mind. But at the same time, it was a place that had pulled them even closer together as of late. Things Rose had said -- had chided him on, even were starting to sink in bit by bit.

Yes, Jack was completely aware of just how deep he'd gotten over the past few weeks. Amazing what a state of constant fear would do to a person. He, however, did not want to admit to Rose that she was right, damn her.

And what was that?

Frowning, Jack almost gagged on a scent he knew far too well: decomposing flesh. There wasn't anything like it in the world. Turning his head, Jack found himself looking into the lifeless eyes of one Martha Jones.

"Fuck," Jack swore, hips pushing Ianto to get him to move. "Ianto, whatever you do, don't look behind me."

Ianto was doing the same, snatching up pants and trousers and sliding into them. He glanced towards the windows then squinted at his watch again, and sighed. "I doubt we're getting any sun today, either," he commented as he slid into clothing and made himself a bit more presentable.

Once that was done, he twitched the blanket that the Martha clone shell thing was laying on a bit, so that it covered her neatly. This was not Martha, he told himself. But it was a body. It certainly stank like one. "That's fine. We're going to need to bury her or something. And how much do you reckon that the rest of the zombies from the, um, day before are tucked up in other beds this morning?"

Which meant that it was going to be potentially busy. When all he wanted to do was curl up with Jack and tease him for mussing his hair.

Now that was a shame: early morning and Ianto was already dressed. Jack had hoped to spend a nice lie-in with his lover -- not play funeral director. Jack only slid his trousers on as he had every intention to return to their previous state of undress as soon as humanly possible.

"We can move her for now until we figure out what we're going to do with the bodies. Suppose it's logical to assume that we're not the only ones awaking with someone." Jack picked up one end of the blanket and, after waiting for Ianto to grab the other, began to carefully move her from their room. Walking backwards, Jack managed to get them to a room far enough away that the stentch wouldn't reach anyone in the museum, yet close enough that they didn't have to take the body far. "We'll have to see how to dispose of the body," Jack said, closing the door on Martha for the time being. "I can't even hazard a guess as to how many bodies there are. We son't have the manpower to dig that many graves."

Wordlessly, Jack held out his hand to Ianto. Maybe their morning wasn't completely ruined.

"We don't have the cold storage, either," Ianto said and slipped his hand into Jack's. He squeezed Jack's fingers as they fell into step. "And, really, we don't have the tools to dig a grave, mass or otherwise. I haven't seen a shovel since arriving and one of the denizens had one, but apprently lost it." Not that one shovel would have done much, but it would have been something.

"You ever stop to think that you and I are taking this place in the entirely wrong way?" he asked as they walked. Ianto crowded a bit closer to Jack and yawned hugely; given that he was off coffee again that wasn't a surprise. The lack of the good stuff was making mornings difficult and having to get up early to take care of a ... well. Doubly difficult. "I mean, you and I, we seem to be okay. Not what I'd call well balanced, but then I wasn't well balanced to begin with." The rest, though...? Everyone seemed to be slowly falling apart.

"No, we don't," Jack replied with a sigh. He returned the gentle squeeze, smiling as Ianto curled closer to him. In the end, Jack abandoned the hand holding and slid his arm around Ianto, letting the other man lean against him. "Shame we don't have Logan any more," Jack mused. "I'd tell him to dig the graves like the dog that he is." A beat pause. "Was."

Jack frowned at that, eyebrows knitting together. "What do you mean?" Jack asked, rubbing Ianto's side with his fingers. "I know we are more used to a situation like this with our line of work." Jack snorted softly. God, what did that say for them and Torchwood? "If you're not well-balanced, what does that say for me?" Jack looked down at Ianto and sighed softly, hearing Rose's voice in the back of his mind. No, he wasn't saying any of that. "Everyone else is falling apart around us," Jack said, picking up on the silent words. "And yet you and I..."

"And yet you and I are doing fine. Maybe not thriving, but doing fine." Ianto finished up the thought for Jack right after he rolled his eyes at the Logan comment. Figures Jack'd say something like that. Even if Logan did seem to be a jerk.

Granted, Jack could be just as big of a jerk, so Ianto had no space to comment.

Instead, he hooked fingers in Jack's beltloops and squashed the tiny voice in his head that murmured about them being dangerously close to couply things. "It says you need to be more than slighty crazy to be in Torchwood. Wonder how Gwen slipped through the screening process."

Logan was a jerk and Jack liked to think that his still being around and alive proved who was the winner of that Death-Off once and for all. But that was utterly beside the point right now wasn't it? Yes, yes it was. "Oh I don't know..." Jack drawled, rocking his hips against Ianto's. "I'd say that part of our relationship is thriving quite nicely."

Yes, Jack. Turn everything into a conversation about sex. It was a true talent of his.

"Oh no," Jack said, rolling over so that Ianto was pinning him. "She was a bit on the nuts side. I always make sure of everyone's mental capacities. You're a bit more sane than her. She has Rhys, you have me. I think that says a lot right there for the whole 'crazy' bit." Jack paused, considering. "That and your arse looks better in jeans than hers does."
