Who: Remus Lupin & OTA
What: The werewolf wakes up alone
Where: Just outside the museum
When: Day 23, 9:14am
Rating: PG
Status: Dropped

Remus was used to waking up alone in his bed each morning. He was used to the noises of people moving around.. but he was also used to the sun coming up. And that hadn't happened in three days. That was why he had slept so long this morning, for a boy who normally got up around six in the mornings, sleeping in until nine was blasphemy. However, he hadn't gotten to sleep until much later than he planned, since his body was confused about the times he should be waking and sleeping, thanks to there being no sun, and no routine. Last night, he'd finally come back into the museum and informed Selene that she needed to be safe, before slinking into his room, where the Doctor was already waiting-- waiting, he imagined, for Rose. But he helped the werewolf get settled in anyway, and he'd placed the untouched axe in the corner and had given the young boy extra blankets to help him stay warm, then he'd simply leaned against the wall and watched the door.

And that was how Remus fell asleep, to the steady sounds of the breathing from the Doctor, and the thumping of his hearts. Oh, yes, he'd heard them. But he wasn't going to ask... it was none of his business.

However, when he awoke, it was alone, something he hadn't expected.. still no Rose, and the Doctor was gone as well. And Remus could smell the putrid scent of rotting filling up the air around him. One of those things was close. He knew it. So he was carefully climbing from the bed and tugging on his shoes (they were the only thing he'd taken off, in case of emergency in the middle of the night) before he grabbed for that axe, but paused finding it wasn't there.. but tugged open the door anyway. After checking the main room, he quickly moved out of it and began looking around for the source of the smell. When he pinpointed it behind a closed door, he assumed that someone had locked one of the creatures inside, and decided it was time for him to get outside.

Glass doors pushed open, and the werewolf hurried down the steps to the very bottom, standing just a few feet away and a few feet below the main doors of the museum, and he came to an abrupt halt.. once more taking in his surroundings, he didn't want to be surprised by any of those creatures.

Sarah Jane squinted at the boy in the darkness, just about making out his features. He did indeed remind her of her own Luke. Little taller, perhaps, and the voice was definitely different, but there was something in his features that seemed to echo Luke. "Sarah Jane Smith," she replied, taking his hand and giving it a firm shake. "Pleased to meet you."

She felt the bandage more than saw it, given the lighting. "Forgive me, but are you all right, Mr. Lupin?" she asked, fingers brushing the bandage lightly. "You've been injured." Now that she was getting used to his features, as close up as he was, she could just barely see the raised scars and discolorations that meant bruising. "You haven't been attacked by those zombies, have you?" Sarah Jane glanced around, suddenly worried that one might appear from the road, or around the side of the museum, and attack them both. She stepped a little closer to Remus, instinctively trying to protect him from the unseen enemies.

"Just Remus is fine, ma'am." He assured her with a little smile, tilting his head some with the hand shake. But when she released it, he glanced down at the bandage there. "It was a week ago, I'm perfectly fine, I assure you.. it happened before coming here." He wanted to make sure she knew that it wasn't anything anyone here had done. He hadn't been attacked or experimented on, or anything of the sort. He really was perfectly okay.

"No.. I encountered a zombie, but the woman I was with, Selene, she took care of it." And by 'took care of it', he meant 'shot it in the face with a shot gun even though I asked her not to'. "Are you alright?" She seemed a little jumpy.. but then it dawned on him and he was looking around also, suddenly weary. Had she heard something? Had she seen something? Were there more? The young werewolf moved in a step closer.

"Right then, Remus," she said, smiling warmly at him. Sarah Jane hoped he could see it in the dim haze. She listened to his explanation of his wound and nodded. "Be careful about keeping it clean," she advised. "There isn't much to work with, I know, but the last thing you want is it getting infected." She wondered if the Management would help them if someone was seriously injured. They had before, but Sarah Jane had felt it was more out of amusement than any real concern. And they'd let everyone suffer before healing them up. This boy didn't need to worry about things like that.

She raised an eyebrow when Remus mentioned having met a zombie. She hadn't seen one herself yet, and while she didn't doubt the people who claimed they were walking about, it still came as a bit of a shock to hear. "I'm glad you're all right," she said. "I'm sure, being a teenaged lad, you know far more about zombies and how to keep safe than I do. I don't really go for those sorts of films." She chuckled and smiled a little. They were the sort of thing Clyde might show to Luke, but Sarah Jane didn't want to be anywhere near when they did. She'd seen things too like the horror-film zombies for them to be of any entertainment value for her.

"Fine, fine," she said, realizing that her anxiety was making Remus edgy too. "Just...cautious, that's all. With it being so dark again, it makes it difficult to work out what's round us. It's a bit unsettling." She put a hand on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze, hoping to reassure him.

"Films?" He questioned with a slight tilt of his head. Films.. films.. Oh! Right! The movies. Movies, right? That was the word, muggle movies. "No, I've.. never seen a film. I only know what I've been told by my mates," And by 'mates' he meant 'Peter Pettigrew'. Since he was the only one who followed those sorts of impossible things. Once someone was dead you couldn't bring them back to life.. but he'd seen it with his very own eyes.

However, when that hand came out to rest on his shoulder, he smiled just a bit and nodded once. "It's a good idea.. we should probably go back inside." He turned to look around him, then back at her. It'd be safer inside.

Sarah Jane raised an eyebrow at that. "Never seen a film?" she repeated, slightly incredulous. How could a teenaged lad not have seen a film? "Not even a Disney cartoon?" She shook her head slightly. "None of your mates has snuck you into a cinema?" Was he raised in an orphanage, perhaps, so he didn't get to do many of the things children took for granted (and adults as well)? But even the children in the orphanages got to go to the cinemas occasionally.

She looked back at the museum. "I think that's a very wise decision," she said. She turned, keeping her hand on Remus's shoulder, and started up the steps very slowly, since it was difficult to tell where exactly they were.

"No, never seen a film." He agreed in an easy tone.. but as she prompted him about Disney cartoons (what were those?), then being snuck into a cinema (what was a cinema?) he drew back a little and shook his head some. "Is.. that bad?" Now you had him worried, Sarah Jane. Should he have gone to see one? Did he need to have seen one? What did that have to do with zombies?

But as she was turning, Remus went with her easily, moving his body in a bit closer to hers, nearly touching as they walked along. It felt safer there. And as they passed through the doors, inside again, he turned to close them up and prop a chair up in front of them, just to assure that no zombies would be getting in.

Sarah Jane squeezed Remus's shoulder. "Not bad," she said. "Just...bit odd, for a boy your age." She shook her head. "Then again, my son hadn't seen one either, till recently." Luke was a special case, but, as she knew nothing about this boy, perhaps he'd had circumstances which prevented him from seeing them as well. "Most boys seem to like going to the cinema, watching all the action films and such." She shrugged. "Never had much time for it myself; I was always busy doing things."

He did remind her of Luke, but he was more skittish than her son. Perhaps he had good reason, what with the bruises on his arms. She wasn't the strongest person in the city, by any means, but she would try to protect him, the way she did her own son and his friends, as best she could. She smiled as he thought to block the door. "Clever idea," she said.

"Where I come from," He admitted finally, "There aren't such things as films. Not really. They sort of exist in another place, but not where I'm from. I guess it's like.. living on two different planets, and one of them not having any idea the other one exists." Well, that was as close as he could get to a proper example.

But he smiled for the praise and glanced away, shy boy. "Thank you. It might not help much, but every little bit counts, right?" Now, however, he was more interested in her son than the zombies outside. "What's your son's name, if you don't mind me asking?"

Sarah Jane nodded at his explanation. It made a sort-of sense to her. "I see," she said. "If you do get a chance, then, I would recommend seeing at least one. Just to have the experience." She felt guilty for having pressed the issue so much, and for having assumed that he was from a similar-style world to her own. By now, you'd think that she'd have got past assuming that everyone who looked human was from Earth, or from the same type of Earth. She'd only known about other worlds for, what, just about 40 years now?

"Exactly," she said, smiling at him again. "Anything that you can do is good. As long as you're thinking and actively working to solve a problem, you're in good shape."

"My son?" she said, surprised at the sudden subject change. "No, no, I don't mind at all. He's called Luke." She looked over Remus as best she could in the dim light. "He's about your age, if I'm judging right."

"Luke? I like that name." He offered a smile over to her and began to move in the darkness, heading further into the museum, where it was a little safer. "I'm sixteen," Just so Sarah Jane had some basis for an age. "Is he here?" He assumed since she was here, that perhaps her son had been taken and was here somewhere as well.. though the thought didn't sit well with him. Children his age shouldn't be here at all.. no one should. Then again, he didn't quite consider himself a child.

"Thank you," Sarah Jane said, smiling. "We took a bit to settle on it, but it suits him quite well." She frowned as Remus mentioned his own age. "No, he's a bit younger." Wasn't that the truth! "He's fifteen." Less hesitation this time than the last time she'd had to give his age. He looked like a fifteen year old, at least.

When Remus asked if he was here with her, Sarah Jane shook her head emphatically. "Thank goodness, no. Not that I've seen, and I hope it stays that way." She did not want to subject her son, or any of their friends, to this place. She looked over at Remus. "What about you? Mum or Dad here?" Much as she wouldn't wish this place on anyone, it seemed just as wrong to bring a child here without some sort of guardian.
