Entry tags:!complete, chris halliwell, day 22, elliot reid, location: gym

Who: Chris, Elliot, anyone else in the gym (Rose?).
What: And the infection starts...
Where: The gym.
When: Day 22 - 12:45pm.
Rating: R (blood, shock, hysteria, etc).
Status: Complete.

If Chris was in his right mind he would have orbed far earlier, wouldn't have let himself get so close. But who could be in their right mind when the zombie they happened across was their mother? Or, at least, had been once.

It was pure subconscious survival instinct that made him orb to the last location his mind knew as safe, and that was the gym. The small white-blue lights would show near the center of the gymnasium floor just before he did, but when he did it was not going to be pretty. Instead of standing Chris was on the ground immediately, head thrown back as he groaned loudly in pain. His clothes were covered in dirt and the slimy fluids of decay, dark blood that didn't belong to him. But the bright red blood splashed on his neck and shoulder, soaking into his clothes? That was all his, coming from the large bite on the left side of his neck.

At the moment he didn't even know where he was, all he could feel was pain, and beneath that his heart was breaking from the sight of Piper in such gruesome form. And she was still out there, likely wanting to tear into his flesh again.

He was trying his best, she could see it in his eyes, which is why she didn't push him, even though her mind was already trying to work out what the bite might have done to him. Being bitten by a corpse wasn't exactly sanitary and the symptoms he was displaying made it obvious that this wasn't an ordinary bite. She felt him lean against her and Elliot slid a hand around his waist to steady him, focusing on a cot in the clinic area. "Don't worry, Chris," she said, her voice low and much calmer than she felt. "We'll take care of you." He was a patient and she was the doctor now. Priority one was to earn his trust and get him better.

"What?" Elliot asked, gripping him tighter as he talked. "No," she said, her voice firm. "No way, Chris. You're not becoming one of them. And we're not killing you." She snorted and shook her head. "Come on, you're too pretty to die," she said, half jokingly. "No," she said, raising her voice above him speaking. "You're not going back out there. So just stop talking like that, okay? We're going to figure this out." She met his eyes. "You have to trust me okay? I'm not going to let you die. And I'm not going to let them turn you into one of them. You got that?"

Her presence was strong and reassuring, and the latter was partly because the determination and certainty in her voice reminded him of the sisters. Granted, thinking about the sisters made him think about Piper, which made him think about the zombie... it was a vicious circle, really, but at least he was attempting to find things to focus on that weren't so bad. He stared back at her, breathing a little labored from the effort it took to walk and remain upright as well as the stress but his gaze didn't waver from her firm one. "You promise?" And there was an innocence in that one question that couldn't usually be found in the whitelighter. After all, it wouldn't take anything to convince him he was about to die, or worse.

Chris didn't have a chance to say more or consent that he did trust her in this as he was suddenly squeezing his eyes shut and pressing his bloodied hand to his head, a wave of nausea and lightheadedness hitting him. "Elliot, I don't feel so good..."

Elliot's face softened at the quiet earnestness of his question and she nodded before she could talk herself out of making that promise. "I promise," she said, gripping him tighter for a minute. She'd find a way to take care of him. She couldn't let him just die.

She watched him squeeze his eyes shut and she braced herself for him to pass out. "Okay, okay, almost there," she coached, half pushing him towards the cot. The door was still unprotected and she was terrified that at any minute a zombie was going to come bursting in, but Chris' color and the quick pulse check she did as her hand moved down to his wrist told her that she had other things to worry about. "You can rest in just a second," she promised, willing him to make the next five feet before he passed out.

He leaned on her a little more but managed to make it to the cot and dropped down heavily, not having the strength or will for a gentle decent. As he sat on the edge for a moment just trying to breathe Chris dropped his hand back to the side of his neck, barely registering the feel of his own blood at this point. His head was swimming and he kept his eyes shut, hoping the feeling would pass. But was it ever that easy? "Elliot..." He tried to warn her that something didn't feel right, that the bite felt worse than he previously though it was. All Chris managed was her name before the pain and shock caught up to him, the world spinning for a brief moment as he slumped over on the cot and finally passed out.
