Day Twenty - Late morning
Who: Andy Gallagher & Rose Tyler
What: Meeting for the first time with both in adult form.
Where: In the gym
When: Day 20, late morning
Rating: PG-13ish?
Status: Complete

Andy looked back through the journal, studying the map for some time before he made his decision. He'd found the two-by-four hiding snugly wedged under the reception desk and decided that he hadn't been that bad at Little League back in the day; he wasn't going to sit around the museum chit-chatting with the others about their regression when he should be making sure Elliot was okay. Hopefully, the birds were being overestimated and he'd be able to knock on the door to make sure she was alright before having to duck into the gym.

The way he figured it, after running around like a spaz playing Ninja Turtles the day before - not to mention the fact that it had been ages since the last time he had bothered or had time to take one - Andy needed a shower. By going the direction of the gym, he could check on Elliot, meet Rose while he was an adult, and still get a shower in. Three birds, one stone. The metaphor made Andy roll his eyes as he slipped out of the museum and raised the piece of wood like a bat.

He hadn't really even had time to think about it before they started coming at him. On autopilot, Andy ran in the direction of the gym, swinging the two-by-four lamely around and cringing both at the sensation of beaks breaking his skin and the sound of bones cracking whenever he felt the makeshift bat come in contact with one of the birds' bodies. Keeping his head ducked low, Andy decided to skip the van - Elliot would be better off if he just waited on checking in with her - and burst into the gym, all but hitting a homerun with the body of a bird dumb enough to follow him inside before he could slam the doors shut again. It slammed into the bleachers across the room, richocheting off and landing on the floor a few feet away with a sickening thud.

At that point, Andy dropped the piece of wood and allowed himself to register the pain. The hoodie he was wearing was spattered in blood, both of the birds he'd managed to lambaste as well as his own where rips and tears in the fabric left tangible reminder that they'd gotten the best of him just as much as he'd gotten the best of some of them. He'd hit a few good ones off those fucking things, but there had only been one Andy...and a shitload of crows.

"Hello? Anybody home?" he called out, brow furrowed as he carefully slid off the hoodie and wiped the blood out of his eyes with it. "Rose? Lex? Could use a little help here," he added, hissing in pain when the dirty fabric came in contact with a cut left just over his eyebrow. Only one bird had managed to get his face, but because of it, he didn't even want to know how many had gotten the back of his head. It stung already when the sweat rolled into the open wounds. In retrospect, he should've stayed put, he supposed... Shit.

The sound of Rose's voice caught his attention and Andy stopped looking uselessly around for life in the gym and gave a small, lopsided grin when he saw her coming. Honestly, it was half-grin and half-grimace, but he tried. She was already fussing over him and whether or not he was willing to admit it, Andy kind of liked it. He missed it. Elliot didn't fuss over him like that anymore because he'd declared Lexie his doctor and Elliot his buddy. Lexie didn't anymore because she was too busy with Dean. Or, you know, whatever else it was that she was doing now that she didn't have an obligation to check up on his bum leg anymore.

"Hey, it's cool," he said, brow furrowed slightly. "I got it, just help me find something to clean these out; no big," he added casually. It was probably a bigger deal than he was making it out to be. Andy was pushing himself under the impression that all he really needed was a shower and some Band-Aids, but if he really let himself consider it, it was entirely possible that at least one or two of the gashes would need a butterfly bandage at best and stitches at worse. He sure as hell wasn't going to make himself look like more of an idiot for going out in the birds the way he had by pointing it out to Rose, though.

With a slight wince he tried to hide, Andy pulled his t-shirt off and started off, with or without Rose, toward where he knew Lexie used to keep the supplies. It had been a while and there'd since been an Earthquake, so he wasn't sure she was leaving the clinic in the same order in which it had been before, but it was worth a shot. Didn't hurt to pretend he knew what he was doing. "Shit," he muttered, frowning as he peeked slightly over his shoulder to see where the majority of the damage had been done. Yeah, it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as small a deal as he wanted to make it out to be. "Peroxide would be a good start," he mused, pulling a face and shrugging. Then, he smirked in spite of himself. "You know, Doc Lex gives lollipops when I behave myself during a check up," he joked, mostly for his own amusement, since the meaning of the statement would probably be lost upon Rose.

Rose gave a smirking grin and rolled her eyes. Yeah, his little self had grown up pretty much exactly as she'd expected he might. Still adorable and still a handful. The sort that would give Captain Jack Harkness a run for his money if given the time.

Though she felt completely out of her realm here in the world of smart people with degrees, Rose followed him, determined to help. Immediately, she reached for the closest brown bottle she could find, reading it carefully. Peroxide. Perfect. Cotton balls were a bit easier, as hi, they were cotton balls and there weren't exactly many things you could mistake them for. "Stay still and shut up," she commanded, in the same tone she had to use when patching up the Doctor. Men. No matter the species, always thought they were too tough to be taken care of by a woman.

Gingerly, she dabbed the soaked cotton to his injuries, wincing a bit at the gashes. "These are pretty bad, you know. I told you to stay put, you don't listen any better as an adult, do you?" Her voice had a hint of teasing to it, though, considering just yesterday she'd been talking to him as a six year-old. And now... Rose's eyes roamed over his back and she gulped slightly. "Well..." She grinned, then, dabbing another spot. "You certainly grew up, didn't you?" He wasn't perfect, but she'd never been a big fan of perfect. And then the whole Jimmy thing... Yeah, no, she liked a few imperfections. Even if he seemed the type who'd try and write his latest injuries off as battle scars. Men.

At the lollipop comment, she just laughed, but didn't stop her uninvited ministrations. "No lollipops here, sorry. Not that I know of. Got some leftover fruit roll-ups, though?"

When Andy reached for the peroxide, already opening his mouth to thank her for thinking of cotton balls when he hadn't been with it enough to consider the same, Rose took charge and he raised his eyebrows at her as he sat down obediently on a cot. "Yes ma'am," he joked back before hissing when the soaked cotton came in contact with one of the wounds. "Ahhhhhsonuva..." he muttered through gritted teeth, trying to keep a straight face. "Easy, that shit stings," he added.

Rose's comment about the state of the gashes didn't surprise him, but he had been hoping that maybe she wouldn't have noticed. "Can't help it. I wanted to check on my buddy; it's my job to keep her safe, ya know?" he asked, for once in a completely serious tone. Elliot was his charge, the way he saw it. It was his job to protect her. He did, though, smirk to himself at the tone in Rose's voice. "I have ants in my pants, what can I say?" he joked back, setting his jaw and closing his eyes as he stiffened slightly under her touch. The peroxide was really painful. Andy couldn't help wondering if it had turned to acetone like Lexie said that either it or alcohol - he couldn't remember which - could sometimes do if it got old...or if he was just being a wuss.

The tone, however, in Rose's voice when she spoke again had Andy's eyebrows raising slightly. "Did I?" he asked, looking over his shoulder at her again. "I dunno, I'm still pretty short, still immature, and still pretty loud and obnoxious. My body got bigger and my curls chilled the hell out but..." he replied and then shrugged slightly before looking forward again to hide his cringe of pain. "I'm still pretty much nothin' more than a big kid. Ask around."

"Shit, no lollipops?" Andy asked, feigning horrified disappointment as he pretended to stand. "Fuck this, then," he added with a laugh. "Although, I still like Fruit Roll-Ups, I'm not gonna lie," he admitted.

Typical man. Has to keep the little woman safe. Rose heaved a sigh, but grinned despite herself. Seemed no matter where she went, men were going to watch out for the women in their lives. "Elliott, right?" she said, using a clean tissue to wipe gently at the places she'd just cleaned. Now that she knew all of this was here, she'd make sure Remus got to it when... Well. To say she was worried was an understatement.

"I'm sure she's capable of taking care of herself, you know. She probably has the sense to stay put when told!" But she lightly squeezed an unmarked portion of his shoulder in a friendly gesture. Poor guy. He was probably seriously hurting. "I'll get you temporarily patched up, love, but you'll need to see Lexie before long. Or Dr. Smartass, but I don't blame you for not wanting that one. Some of these..." Her nose wrinkled, but not at the blood. She'd dealt with her share of blood. More the fact that the poor thing was going to have to walk around healing.

But she had to giggle at his description of his older self. He was such a nut. Really? Hadn't changed much at all. "Yeah, it's the bigger body that I noticed..." she said in a playful tone, before she reached for the bandages and began patching up the larger patches. "And you haven't gotten a lollipop in ages, sit down." There was nothing commanding in her tone. She couldn't, she was laughing too hard. "I'm no nursemaid, you know. No idea about the sudden urge to actually make sure you live. I guess I figure if my charge dies on the second day of sitting for him, I'm going to childminding hell."

Nodding, Andy smiled slightly to himself. Maybe it was a little dumbly, though he'd probably never admit it. Elliot meant a lot to him; she wasn't just a 'fuck buddy' the way he talked about her with Connor. And, well, she wasn't just a buddy, the way he talked about her with Rose just then. It sort of occurred to Andy just then that Elliot was his best friend and maybe he was a little bit in love with her for giving him the time of day and trusting him to take care of her. "Yeah," he replied finally, looking down at his feet. "Elliot. She can take care of herself, but we worry about each other. A lot's happened here. Just as much as I take care of her, she takes care of me." He paused and then looked back at Rose again. "Course, it helps that she's a doctor," he added quickly and in a light, joking tone to pull focus from the fact that he was being such a fag right then.

Rose went on to tell him that he'd have to see Lexie or House - oh hell no, he wasn't seeing House when there were two gorgeous, nice female doctors around - soon to take care of the gashes on his shoulders. He wondered if she'd noticed the ones on his head or if they weren't actually as bad as they felt. "Yeah, or I could have Elliot have at; either way. I haven't seen Doc Lex in a while," he admitted. Not since the other day when they'd had their awkward reunion after he'd thought she was really dead. Awkward...yeah. To say the least. "But I think you're doin' pretty well so far," he encouraged, cringing just slightly while she worked.

"Oh yeah?" he teased, smirking. "I wish I could say 'milk, it does a body good,' right now and not be so full of shit it was coming out my ears; that'd be awesome," he replied with a huff of laughter. He laughed out loud when she went on and looked back at her again. "Oh, I'm your charge? I'm older than you, so how the hell does that work?" he laughed.

The truth was, Rose had seen the spots on his head. But short of washing them out really well, she had no idea how to take care of them in this twisted version of Survivor. Maybe Lexie could figure it out, or apparently Elliot. "Elliot's a doctor, too?" she all but yelped. "What the hell, is everyone here a genius? Why'd they bother yanking me in, distraction from all the intelligence?". Okay, so every once in a while, Rose Tyler was a little self-centered.

Heaving a sigh, she found the clean...well, clean looking cloths and wet them. Taking a deep breath, she sorted through the mess of curls, still wavy if not half as wirey as they'd been when he was little. Blood-wimp or not, Rose winced at the sight. "I think these may look worse than they are," she confessed, dabbing away the worst of the blood. Poor guy. But she refused to feel too badly; she had told him to stay put, after all! "I hear the head naturally bleeds more... When you get back to the van? Make sure she takes a look."

Because then she grinned, despite the grim sight in front of her. "Because, as your caregiver, I demand proper treatment." She couldn't help the giggle that escaped. "How old are you, anyway? And remember, age doesn't always equal maturity!"

Andy's eyebrows shot up when Rose yelped at him in response. "You think we're all geniuses? Think again. You're talking to all the smart people, but not everybody is. I'm not. The philosophy books are for when I get high. I, for example, am your average Joe. Mostly," he told her. The only thing Andy could figure that was special about him was that he could control minds. Andy thought of that more as a curse than a gift these days. Intelligence, he thought, would be a gift because, while he wasn't exactly dumb, he was neither terribly smart. "There's a reason for each of us being here, though, Sam said. I tend to agree. We just haven't figured out what it is yet." Andy didn't go on to say that he thought the majority of the women chosen were chosen for their looks on the account that having so many people so easy on the eyes would make it an easier pill to swallow, knowing that death was around the corner waiting at all times.

"Ah, don't worry about those," Andy told Rose, moving his head away as she started to clean those wounds. "I need a shower anyway. Don't think Lex would mind too much if I steal some of her shampoo. She didn't mind before," he said, slowly getting to his feet and resisting the urge to stretch his arms over his head and potentially undo all the work Rose had done to get the gashes on his shoulders to stop bleeding. He reached over and took a cotton ball, soaking it with peroxide and closed his eyes, dabbing at the cut above his right eyebrow. "I'll make sure," he promised in reference to getting Elliot to take a look at the head wounds. He was pretty sure they weren't that bad.

Letting the cotton ball drop down to the gym floor, Andy opened his eyes again and turned to look back at Rose. He almost was tempted to sit back down as he smiled back at her, shaking his head in good-natured amusement. "I'm twenty-three. But, you're right. Age doesn't always equal maturity. I like to think I'm a pretty mature guy though, really. Mostly, I just dick around so that I don't have to think about the shitty things I've seen, felt, and experienced here," he pointed out, smile softening until it faded completely.

She held up one hand and tapped off her fingers as she went. "My very first day, I'm stuck with Dr. Smartass in some experiment with weird lights and mirrors and random shite." One finger. "I'm here with my best mate," a brief pause and another tap of her finger, "and a uh, close friend of his. Both? Amazingly smart. We've two other doctors." Two more fingers and she was out of space and had to hold up her other hand. "One of my other close friends is here and even if he tries to pass himself off as a git sometimes, he's extremely technologically intelligent. And my roommate, though younger than me, is brilliant. All books and learning and yeah." Damn. She really was looking like a moron the more she talked. She needed to hang out with Andy more, and a few other Average Joes if she could find them. Because at that moment, she was feeling kind of stupid. And not just in that, 'the Doctor rambled on for twenty minutes about the time vortex and then looked at her like a child when she had no clue what he'd just said' sort of way.

Determined to put that horrible thought out of her mind, she put the grin back in place. Better. Don't let them see you sweat. Or cry. "You know, Andy love, I think I have to find it in me to like you. Sometimes... Sometimes you just have to have a sense of humour, or you'll let it eat you alive. And there's nothing worse. Maybe those philosophy books aren't so bad for you after all." She reached out, then, tweaking one of his curls. "Trust me, though, it's not just in here. The world out there can be pretty cold, too. But...you have to keep going. If you don't, why bother being here? And by here, I mean alive in general." Her face darkened some, but there was still a hint of a smile on her face.

Andy's smiled dropped completely away from his face. The mirrors. The room with the blood on the floors and on the walls. The room in which he and Tonks had found Luna's charred corpse. Jaw set, Andy looked away again. He missed the ticking off on her fingers for the rest of the people, but he hadn't stopped listening. "I promise you we're not all geniuses," he replied in a flat tone even as he tried to force a little more light-heartedness into his voice. He could see it all over again. Feel the sticky moisture on the floor; smell the metallic tang of blood mixed with the stench of burnt hair and skin. Most of all, Andy could see Luna's small body crumpled, bloody and burned, in the corner. His stomach twisted and he felt sick.

Upon hearing his name, Andy forced himself to snap out of it and he looked up at her again, forcing a small smile. "Yeah? I'm pretty likable on the whole," he replied and as she tweaked a curl hanging over his forehead from his bangs, Andy felt badly for making her into a liar as she spoke. She talked of having a sense of humor and all Andy could think about was how badly he'd failed Luna. How he should have listened to Sam. ...and Dean. He should've gone after her and found her; he should've made her stay at the church so he could keep an eye out for her. He'd trusted that Logan would take care of her but Logan had failed worse than even Andy had. At least when Andy'd lost her, she'd come back. When Logan lost her, she'd ended up dead.

The more Rose talked, the more Andy found himself inclined to nod solemnly. "Yeah, you're tellin' me," he agreed when she declared the outside world as cold. That was probably the understatement of his life, he thought bitterly, thoughts shifting from Luna to Tracy to Webber and all of the death and destruction his twin had left behind before Andy himself had killed him. Andy swallowed hard and looked up at Rose. Though her eyes had darkened, she was still smiling slightly. He tried to match it for her benefit. "You're not wrong. We all keep going." He'd had that discussion with Illyana a few days prior and it had felt just as bittersweet to say then as it did now. "You women here are a lot more intuitive than you gives yourselves credit for," he murmured thoughtfully, looking down again.

Rose was intuitive. She knew when something horrible was happening. If nothing else, she was attuned to humans. Well, aliens, too, actually. People who needed her help. Those were the ones she was drawn to. The Doctor called it domestic, and maybe it was. While he was saving the world, she was saving the individuals. The people who needed a defender, someone to count on. The Doctor found the bomb; Rose found the little boy who needed a mum.

So she knew when Andy's voice and expression changed that she'd hit a nerve somewhere. His mind wasn't anywhere in that gym at that moment. She took the spot on the cot he'd vacated and watched his face carefully before speaking. After all, the wrong word could make or break a friendship. And she liked him so far. She didn't want to hurt him any further than he'd obviously already been.

"Men can be intuitive, too, you know," she said quietly. "Sometimes it just takes listening. Taking in what you can." Idly, she fiddled with the hem of her shirt, shrugging. "It's just... People. You have to keep moving on, you know? It's how we survive. If we crumbled every time something horrible happened...we'd fall apart. We'd never evolve and grow." Rose had no way of knowing how similar the talk he was giving him would be to one she'd witness Sarah Jane giving the Doctor only months into her future. But it was true. She'd watched that man himself move on despite losing everyone and everything important to him. She'd seen her mum survive after losing her dad. And she herself... Well. Jimmy Stone had taken her youth, her innocence, and in some ways, her spirit. But she'd moved on.

They all would. Despite all of the losses in this place, they'd move on. It would hurt, but they'd live. Rose reached out, then, squeezing Andy's hand in hers. "You're kind of awesome, you know that? Even as a grownup." Her words ended on a teasing lilt, but her smile was genuine and honest. She knew people, and she knew he'd seen more than he wanted to tell her. But he'd survived.

For a moment, Andy just looked back at Rose blankly. It wasn't that he'd meant to imply that the men here - or anywhere - weren't or couldn't be intuitive. All he'd meant by it was that the women he'd encountered here were moreso than he thought they were willing to credit themselves. Finally, he nodded. There had been times when he'd been intuitive. He'd known when Lexie had needed to break in private. He'd known when Elliot had needed him to shelf the fact that he wasn't in the mood and just sleep with her because it was what she needed to forget the horrible things she'd seen and felt that day. He wished he could've been more intuitive in Luna's case, but that was neither here nor there and he couldn't change it, either way. "Yeah," he agreed quietly. "I know."

He'd done more growing and evolving in the past year in his life than Andy thought he'd probably done in the rest of his life combined. Between Guthrie and Cold Oak and now this place, he'd done more growing and evolving than he ever wanted to. Probably more than he really needed to. But he survived. Andy was still alive where his mother was not. Where Webber was not; where Lily was not. Where Martha, Luna, and Bob were not. Somehow, he'd managed to make it when the others hadn't been able. There had been more death in this place than Andy had ever seen in his life. He supposed if it didn't end here for him then he would somehow end up stronger for it. ...when it stopped hurting to think about.

A small smile that didn't quite reach his eyes tugged at the corners of Andy's mouth when she took his hand and gave it a squeeze. Without realizing it, he pulled that hand away and shoved it deep in his pocket, closing it into a fist. In spite of the way it made him feel better, it also made him feel a bit worse. That was how Luna had tried to comfort him - a squeeze of his hand - because they had never quite seen eye to eye on what the other person was thinking, feeling, or needing. "Thanks, I try," he replied with a slight broadening of the smile and a huff. "You're not so bad yourself, you know," he added.

With a nod more to himself than to her, Andy's eyes moved away from Rose and toward the hallway that would lead him to the men's locker rooms. "I should get in the shower. I smell like a Ninja Turtle," he muttered with a small smirk that he neither felt nor wanted to give her, but one that came with the words. Andrew Gallagher, expert in laughter as a defense mechanism.

Ah. He was the 'hide from feelings' sort. She knew it well. Of course she did, look who she spent the majority of her time with? She'd had to practically pick her Time Lord apart to get anywhere with him. Andy would be no exception. And just like with the Doctor, she knew to give him time. She'd never force herself. She'd also never be the constantly reminding him he could go to her type, either. No, Rose was the woman who'd simply stay in your life until you realised you needed her and turned to her on your own.

She was good at that.

"I know," she confirmed, smiling up at him. This place would rip them all apart if they didn't get out soon. But then, that's what the management here wanted, wasn't it? To know them inside and out, to watch their mental healths crumble. Slipping into their private thoughts, watching their personal lives and how they reacted. They were the ultimate sociology experiment. A horrifying thought. Never mind that they could also rip apart space and time if they knew what she was afraid they did.

No. Better not to think about that. Better to worry about the Ninja Turtle in front of her. "You know, I don't remember April thinking they smelled funny..." she said, attempting to smile more fully. "That must have been an episode I missed. Or the third movie, by then I'd given up." She kicked out one foot, nudging him lightly in the shin. "Go on, then, if you feel you just have to smell pretty. And make sure Lexie or Elliot checks out those head injuries. If you get a concussion and it's my fault, I'll probably be slayed alive by them both."

Rose's comment about April afforded her a genuine, if surprised, laugh from Andy in response. "Yeah, well, April hung out in the sewers with them; she probably stopped noticing pretty quick," he pointed out. "I don't need to smell pretty, I just need not to be able to smell my own BO, is all," he added with a wry grin.

It would've been funny to Andy to know that Rose automatically considered him one of those men who didn't like to share his feelings, because he was quite the opposite. Elliot, Luna, and Lexie had all seen him in states of raw emotion and frailty. Most especially Lexie, given she'd been there by his side the whole time he'd been under the Ketamine so she could do his stitches. Whether or not by his choice, that had been him at his lowest on display for two beautiful women both of whom he felt interest toward. He had only spared a moment to feel ashamed and even then only because he'd thrown up all over the floor when his head had been in Lexie's lap. Elliot had seen him after the experiments when he'd been in the panic room and in the mirror room; she'd seen him after he'd thought he'd watched Lexie die and when he'd literally touched Luna's corpse, pushing her long blonde hair out of her face as though it still mattered.

While Andy wasn't a huge fan of showing other men his weaknesses, he was very much okay with letting women see them. Mainly because Andy knew that women actually liked to see weakness in men. In fact, the women in Andy's experience had been those who prefered to nurture under those circumstances and Rose was no exception, from what he could tell. He'd met her yesterday as a six-year-old version of himself and even then he'd known that she was the nuturing type. The problem with Rose was that she was new to this place and he knew that. He wasn't sure what kind of horrors she'd seen or experienced either here or in life in the real world, but he wasn't going to test the waters or scare her by sharing the things he'd seen.

A small smile crept over his face as he looked back at her. "Psh, nobody does anything I don't want them to do," he said with an air of cockiness that was, quite frankly, deserved in context. It was true. The only ones he knew of here on whom he could not use his mind control were Sam and Illyana. Everyone else was fair game. He often made jokes about using it when he really had no intention, but he'd already used them when he felt he had to to help someone survive.

He'd used it on Martha to make her run when she wanted to stay and would've gotten herself killed by the cougar in doing so. He'd used it on the wolves to help Sarah when she had needed to feed in secret. He'd considered using it on Elliot and Lexie both to calm them down and tell them that everything was going to be okay, but he couldn't quite bring himself to do it because calming them down falsely didn't seem justified by the reward of survival. Calm or freaked, they'd still live.

But, even if Rose was kidding, the context would give way to reward of survival; thus, he would have no problem - okay, he'd have a little problem - with using the mind control to help her out. The same was true for Illyana if she felt that strongly about him keeping her secret about the teleporting. He knew the importance of freaks uniting and staying under the radar. It was why he'd helped Sarah, after all. "I'm really good like that," he added with a wink before taking a few steps backward away from her and toward the locker room.

It was probably sad that the majority of the horrors inflicted in this place wouldn't have surprised Rose. Honestly, she'd lived through some terrible moments just in the last several months, before even seeing the sorts of things that took place in the glass box. Worse, she knew what could happen. Even she, so knew to the ways of the galaxy, knew what danger they were in if the people running the joint really did have the TARDIS under their control. And even if they didn't, if they were using some other method to make all of this happen, it was more than dangerous. They had to be outside of the realm of time itself in order to not have the universe go caving in on itself for all that had been done and revealed here.

Well. That was certainly a cheerful thought, wasn't it? But just because she hadn't held hands with any of the deceased in this place didn't mean she hadn't seen death. All of those on the observation deck, Gwyneth, the numbers totaling in the hundreds on Satellite 5...even her own father. This place would be no different. She'd love and she'd lose and that's just how her life went now. It was all part of travelling with the Doctor, being caught up in his life, and caring for him.

Even when he was being a complete git. Men.

"You know," she said, grinning at his retreating figure, "I always thought Michaelangelo would've been pretty good looking if he were human." Oh, Andy. You weren't the only one who could put on the happy smiley front and act as if nothing were wrong. Even when the world was falling apart, Rose would still try to smile. For as long as she could manage, she'd keep smiling. She might not have the humour he did, but she did have a good sense of herself. "Go get showered, Ninja. Frankly, no matter how cute you were as a kid, and how fit you are now? You kind of reek." She wrinkled her nose in exaggeration and made a shoo-ing motion with her hand.

Raising his eyebrows, Andy smirked back at Rose. What a little tease. Weren't they all at that age, though, he thought. "That's because Michelangelo was the coolest one, obviously," he replied in a nonchalant tone. "Again color me surprised that someone that cute could play someone as evil as Shredder," he added, quick to put the flirting on an even plane.

He backed away a few more steps and laughed when she called him Ninja, complimenting his looks not only as a child but, he thought, also in his adult form before telling him that he did, indeed, smell badly. "Don't be jealous that my manly scent beats the hell out of every other guy's. You should've been here the day before the Earthquake. Then I was really ripe; ask Doc Lex," he added with a laugh before turning and starting toward the locker room again. "No peeking. If you wanna look, you gotta join. That's my rule," he called over his shoulder jokingly and then turned to face her again, continuing to walk backward. "In all seriousness, though, thanks for helpin' me out. You're a cool chick, Rose," he said, giving her a smile and a halfhearted wave of his thumb and first two fingers before turning again and disappearing down the hallway to shower.

Rose only smirked at Andy's...well, not too terrible looking backside as he walked off. As deep as their conversation had mistakenly gotten? She couldn't deny she'd enjoyed it. In all honesty, she'd needed someone like Andy just then. The people who knew her--and the ones who knew her that she didn't know--were different. They had expectations, they thought she needed protection, and they wanted to talk. About what she was feeling and how she was holding up and so on. And Rose? Didn't want that at the moment.

What she wanted was to flirt and to be playful and to be herself again. She wanted to forget the revelations of the day before had never happened and she wanted to pretend she wasn't in this awful place. So she wiggled her fingers at Andy and called after him, "You'll regret that one day. I take up the entire shower, so you know." And before he could turn back and come up with some sassy remark that would give him the upper hand, she turned and flounced off, back to the corner of the gym she'd been hiding away in before he'd come charging in.
