Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!shelved, day 20, l lawliet, location: forest, merope gaunt

Who: Merope and L
Where: One of the forests, then a change of mind. She goes to L's place.
Why: She's way sad :(
When: Sometimes after 12pm

Merope sighed, she thought maybe hiding or getting the whole ordeal over was a good idea? The light drizzle seemed befitting like the night she'd been taken away. After leaving, she'd not notice the crows around until one flew past her, she moved into the forest in hopes of something getting her, something that would remove her from the town. As she stood there against a tree, she felt a hard pecking of her arm and she cried out.

She suddenly turned to start walking away as running would only wear her out faster. She got a good bit of pecking before she came to L's residence and snuck in, lowering herself to the ground and hiding there.

As he turned away violently, she gasped to herself. That motion had been frightening to someone so afraid of fast movements and jerking motions. The only reason she continued was because he was her friend and he was hurting. Instead of saying anything further, she approached closer, slower like a slave trying to avoid punishment.

Once she was behind him on the ground, her lithe arms wrapped around him in a comforting motion,"L, I'm here."

L himself was typically very skittish when it came to sharp movements and anything too sudden or unpredictable. But after his recent experiences in Vas, what was predictable? He realized the answer as Merope came up behind him and encircled those pitifully thin arms around him. Merope was predictable. She would always be a comforting presence, and he was a cruel jackass to push her away when she just wanted to help him in her quiet, meek way.

She wasn't Jenny, and she wasn't Laura, and L didn't want her to be. He didn't see her that way and even if he did, it was too soon after their departures. He saw one of her little pale hands draped down over his chest, and placed one of his own over it. He felt like a ghost, insubstantial and thin and light-headed from lack of food and rest, but something about having Merope there made him at least feel like he existed.

Merope positioned herself so she was more comfortable and rested her head against his back, listening to his heartbeat through it. She held onto his clothing, trying to warm herself as he had been doing with the fire she put out. She cleared her throat and huddled closer to him, clinging onto him should he try to violently push her away from him in some way.

"Don't hurt yourself anymore...." Her hands gripped him tighter as if he would float away.

Merope's affections were, as usual, simultaneously comforting and stifling. She clung as if expecting to be shaken off and discarded. It stirred pity in L that he usually wasn't aware of.

"I'm not hurt," he said quietly, his voice and the words they said feeling hollow and empty. "I stopped hurting, you know." he closed his eyes, tilting his head forward so that his chin rested against his chest.
