It took Dan Dreiberg a moment to surface from the darkness he found himself in. Though he was vaguely aware that he was on his back and the quietness of his garage had been replaced with a soft rustling sound, he hadn't yet registered these facts to be out of the ordinary. It was only after he heard the sound of a bird's call - one he automatically classified and filed away as Cyanocitta cristata - that he opened his eyes and looked at the world around him. The canopy of tree leaves overhead, moving softly in the breeze, shocked him. He sat up quickly, moving faster than might be expected of a man his size, and pushed himself to his feet.

He'd been in his garage what seemed only minutes ago, fine-turning Archie and getting him ready for patrolling later in the evening. He'd heard the sound of the front door signaling the arrival of Laurie's mother and had simply been finishing up on a few things to give them some time alone before making his way up the stairs. He had no idea how he'd gotten here or how much time had passed since then. A quick glance at the skyline confirmed the feeling in his gut that he wasn't in Central Park. Dan slipped off his glasses, retrieving a clean cloth from his pocket to clean them as he tried to piece together the missing time. He frowned in concentration as he tried to determine if Laurie and her mother were alright. He put back on his glasses and blinked, catching sight of a small box in front of him. He bent down to pick it up, mouthing the words engraved on it's top out loud. "Vas Captio?"

His mind reached back decades to forgotten Latin lessons and tried to piece together the meaning. Dan's frown deepened. Glass prison? That couldn't be right, could it? His feeling of unease increased as he looked around the forest floor for additional clues. His sight froze on a blue jean clad leg sticking out from behind a tree a few feet away. He took in his surroundings once more before moving cautiously forward. The rest of the body came into view and he stopped again at the sight of the young man lying face down on the ground. Not because he wasn't moving, Dan had seen his share of unmoving bodies - a lot of them gang members he'd made that way. He'd stopped because off the huge smiley face looking up at him from the back of the man's jacket. The only thing missing was the bit of human bean juice at the upper left corner.

The Comedian's death and everything that had followed suddenly on his mind, Dan forced himself forward. He didn't see any blood or injuries and there were no weapons within reach unless they were under the body. He nudged the body with his foot, ready to defend himself if this was a trap. "Hey," he said, his voice sounding slightly nervous. He cleared his throat, removing that sign of weakness from it. "Hey," he said a little louder. "You alive?"

Ted's comment about heaven made Dan stop and study his companion for a long moment to see whether or not he was going to crack a smile. When Ted didn't, Dan did it for him. He'd definitely never heard that theological argument before. Despite his oddities, Dan had to admit that Ted's upbeat personality was slightly contagious.

The sudden weight of of Ted's hand on Dan's shoulder was slightly unnerving, though he was touched by the gesture. Dan opened his mouth to point out that might not be the case for long, since whoever had brought them here had a reason for it, but he couldn't bring himself to be the bearer of bad news. He sighed and focused on the building in front of him. Maybe it'd have some more answers.

Dan wasn't sure he'd ever heard anyone be that adamant about not knowing something in his whole life. Obviously the actions of the future robot version of himself had shocked and puzzled Ted. Even though Dan had already noticed the tire tracks he nodded. "Someone was here recently," he said. "Must be someone around."

Ted tried the door and Dan heard the creak as it opened. He reached out and opened the other double door glancing around the darkened church before moving forward. He looked for a light switch, but didn't see any. The church itself was run down, the interior as dusty as the exterior. Still, it looked like someone might have been here. "Hello?" He called out, glancing towards the front of the church and the cross and it's savior. "Anyone here?"

The smile that Dan cracked was completely appreciated by the easygoing teenager, so he grinned easily in return and then began to snoop around. "I totally feel like I should have one of those cool caps!" He paused, "And a most excellent pipe." A Sherlock Holmes cap, he meant. But that was beyond Ted. Instead, he sort of clung on to his vest like he was an old man clinging to the sides of his coat, ready to make a speech. That act was dropped easily enough and called out after Dan. "We're totally okay, dudes!" Wait. There were girls here too. "Or babes!"

It was way dark, so he dug through his little kit thing and produced the matches. "Most triumphant preparation for us." He moved to use one, but it didn't light. The matches were wet. Or damp at least. The California Kid looked put out by that. "Bogus." Shrugging, he pocketed the used match as well as the rest of the book. Maybe they'd dry out later!

Somehow Ted found his way toward the baptismal and brightened, amused. He stood over it, very somber looking. "I'm totally Pope Ted the Awesome." Voice deepened, because deeper meant more serious. But that didn't last long at all, "You can be Cardinal Dan!" More funny hats! "We'd ride around in the most awesome and tiny Pope Mobile."

Dan let out a small huff of laughter at Ted's Sherlock Holmes reference, especially since he'd just been reminded of the legendary detective earlier by Ted's unusual use of the word, aloof. He led the way into the church, not being able to help from giving a small chuckle when Ted yelled out that they were "okay" to whoever might be residing in the church.

He moved forward, looking in the rows of pews in the dim light filtering in from the glass windows for something, though he wasn't entirely sure what. He stopped and looked back at Ted when he declared the matches bogus. "Might not be a good idea to light them anyway," Dan said, shaking his head. "This place looks like it's just take a spark to make it go up."

Dan moved along the wall, finally finding a switch that didn't turn on. He looked up at Ted and the baptismal as he declared himself pope. "I'm pretty sure I don't meet the holy requirements for that kind of office," Dan said. He sighed and moved towards the baptismal. "There's no power here. And I don't think there's a phone anywhere. We should move on."

"Oh," He stared for a brief moment, as if processing what Dan said, and then nodded. When Ted nodded, he had a tendency to throw his whole body into said nod. "Shah! You're totally right! I mean, totally can't have November Rain gone wrong." He thought about it and grinned, "It'd be November Rain meets Madonna's Like a Prayer!" Which, really, would be kinda sweet. Minus that whole fire thing.

Another moment by the baptismal, making Pope sort of motions with his hand, then he dropped boths hands to his sides and looked around. "Forgot to pay the electricity bill. Most non-triumphant." Going over to the pews, Ted plopped down to sit for a minute.

"Dude, this whole town is totally creepy." He was Captain Obvious, that one. "Like Village of the Damned!" While he was talking, Ted was looking at the things that they got. Particularly the journal.

It was then that Ted noticed something. "Whoa!" Jumping up and hurrying to Dan, he showed the older man what he found. "My journal has totally been used already!" How lame was that?

It was amazing how Ted threw his whole body into a single nod. Dan was glad he was standing a few feet away, otherwise he wasn't entirely sure Ted wouldn't have accidentally head butted him. Dan simply blinked at the November Rain comment, not entirely sure what Ted was referring to. Though the mention of Madonna did get a small bit of recognition. As much as Dan seemed to live under a rock when it came to pop icons he hadn't been able to escape the impact of Madonna. He still didn't quite understand what Ted meant though. "Songs?" Dan guessed, looking slightly lost.

Dan was also going through his box in the light from the open doors, trying to see if maybe he'd missed something when he'd looked in the forest. He started writing down some personal notes, half listening to what Ted was saying when his Whoa! caused him to look up at his companion. Ted hurried over and showed him his journal. Dan's brows furrowed as he took the journal and then flipped through it. It did look like several people had already written in it. On the last page he saw his own notes. Notes he'd just written.

He moved over to a pew, setting down his box and flipping to the beginning of his journal instead of the random page he'd started writing on. His too had the same writing. He looked up at Ted. "They're connected somehow. You can see what I write and..." He pointed to an entry in what sounded like Ted's voice. "I can see what you write."

He sighed, his brow furrowed in concentration as he tried to work out how that was possible. He sat on the pew and started flipping through his journal. "Do you think these are other people here? Like us?"

"Shah! Most excellent music videos. Took place in a church." He moved his head back and forth, sheepishly smiling as he explained the connection. It didn't bother Ted that he had to actually explain. If Cardinal Dan was, in fact, from the past..well, he wouldn't know would he!

He continued flipping through as well, writing down little things here and there. "Dude! There are some sort of bad dudes who won't let scientists go! And a little dude." There were kids here? As much as Deacon bothered him sometime, especially when he ditched Napoleon, Ted wouldn't let anything happen to his little brother. And Little Sig was someone's brother, probably.

He looked up, eyes wide and a blank sort of look of concern. "This is a non..non heinous situation, Dan."

"Ah," Dan said in answer to Ted's explanation. He couldn't remember the last time he'd actually seen a music video, let alone one set in a church. Still, he was slightly surprised. He hadn't pegged Madonna to the be the spiritual type, but then again, maybe that was being a little judgmental.

Now that Dan was focusing on the journal he could see entries that other people were making showing up on the page. Before he knew it he was speaking with a kid who called himself Chris. He looked up at Ted's explanation and shook his head. "There are children here, I'm speaking with one."

Dan let out a slow breath. He didn't have his gear or costume. He'd have to find a weapon of some sort, though from what the kid was saying the people holding them there were unarmed. "We should help them," Dan said, meeting Ted's eyes. "Sounds like a bad situation to me."

Ahh, to discuss the spirituality (or lack thereof) of Madonna. Now that would be a most excellent conversation! But Ted was looking over the journal in awe, flipping it over and trying to figure out how the others were writing.

"This would make yearbook signing most triumphant.." Mused briefly before the kid looked back up at Dan. And nodded vigourously. "Shah! We totally need to get them from the non-scientific buttheads."

"Exactly," Dan said, his voice grave as he continued questioning the boy named Connor over the journals. "Maybe your friend and that scientist named Spock will be able to tell us more about where we're at and how we got here."

He closed his journals and got to his feet. "Whatever we do, we should move fast. If anyone can see these entries, that means that the person holding them there might be able to also."

"That would be most outstanding!" Anyone explaining where they were would be excellent to Ted. So he too closed his journal and swooped up his box. Like his watch, you never knew when this stuff would be important. So he wasn't taking any chances.

But then the teenager thought about it and opened his journal again. "The babe Elliot said there was a map.." Flipping to that page, Ted managed a baby air guitar while holding on to everything. "To the gym, Dan!"

Ted might not have been terribly brilliant, but at least he was pretty okay with heading into strange situations without too much trepidation. Or too many questions.
